I blame myself
isaacsundaralingam26 November 2023
I went into this movie knowing full well what exactly I was getting myself into. Santhanam has been doing his hero rounds for so long that I can't remember the last time I actually liked one of his movies. Actually wait, have I ever liked ANY Santhanam movie? No, I honestly can't seem to think of any. So knowing full well that this movie was going to be trash, I still chose to go watch it, and that is on me.

80s Buildup is yet another nonsensical, braindead and painfully unfunny Tamil comedy that I honestly have no idea how it gets made. But hey, at least Santhanam seems motivated in destroying any shred of relevance he has as a celebrity, and that level of commitment is commendable.

Santhanam's latest cinematic venture offers a delightful and laughter-packed experience, skillfully infused with clever, scene-by-scene humor. The screenplay stands out as a shining example, expertly weaving a tapestry of witty dialogues and situational humor that consistently hits the mark. Each scene unfolds with meticulous comedic precision, contributing to an overall atmosphere of sheer enjoyment for the audience.

What sets this film apart is the impeccable timing of its jokes, creating a rhythmic cadence that enhances the comedic impact. The chemistry among the cast, particularly between Anatharaj and Santhanam, adds another layer of charm and hilarity. Their on-screen dynamic elevates the humor to new heights, making the movie a compelling choice for enthusiasts of the comedy genre.

The humor isn't merely superficial; it's intelligently crafted and seamlessly integrated into the narrative. The film succeeds not only in delivering laughs but also in creating a cohesive and engaging storyline. The comedic elements complement the plot, resulting in a fun-filled cinematic ride that captivates the audience from start to finish.

For those who appreciate a well-executed comedy, this movie emerges as a must-watch. Its ability to balance humor with a compelling storyline, coupled with the remarkable chemistry among the cast, ensures an entertaining experience that resonates with comedy enthusiasts. Santhanam's film achieves the delicate balance of being genuinely funny while maintaining a sense of narrative coherence, making it a standout choice in the realm of comedic cinema.

NOT SANTHANAM BEST BUT BETTER THAN HIS RECENT MOVIES EXCEPT DD RETURNS
nishanneymessi23 December 2023
I am unsure why Santhanam is always choosing Comedy Script and illogical scripts but i think this was good but not excellent laugh riot like Dd returns..The comedy gang helped him a lot in this movie..What i am suprised of is usually Santhanam heroine wont get bigger screen space in his movie but this new heroine who is pretty and very talented gets good screen space..Other than that this movie BGM and songs by Ghibran os totally wasted so noisy and i can't believe at all he was the one who gave career best BGM and songs for AjithKumar Thunivu..The story is just one day and about Santhanam Grandpa Funeral..I usually love this director movies but he kinda spoiled this movie a bit..Otherwise this movie is watchable with family and Kamal Rajini Fans pls dont get offended hahahahha..

Wholesome entertainment

In an era where cinema often takes itself too seriously, "80s Buildup" emerges as a breath of fresh, hilariously vibrant air. This comedy, spearheaded by the inimitable Santhanam, is a masterclass in humor, timing, and heart. From start to finish, the film doesn't just tickle your funny bone; it envelops you in a warm embrace of nostalgia and laughter.

Santhanam, known for his impeccable comedic timing and versatility, outdoes himself in a role that seems tailor-made for his talents. His performance is not just a testament to his own skills but also to the director's vision of creating a comedy that resonates on a universal level. His character's journey, filled with wit, charm, and a dash of the absurd, anchors the film's narrative in a way that's both engaging and endearingly ludicrous.

Anandraj, as Manjakili, delivers a performance that's nothing short of iconic. The character's unique blend of humor and sincerity adds a rich layer to the movie's tapestry, making every scene he's in an absolute delight. The chemistry among the cast, especially within the comedic ensemble, elevates the film from being merely funny to a memorable cinematic experience. Seeing all the comedians share the big screen is a fantastic spectacle, reminiscent of the ensemble casts of the golden age of 80s comedies, yet fresh and original in its execution.

It's with a bittersweet sentiment that we witness the late legends Manobala and Mayilsamy grace the screen in their posthumous roles within "80s Buildup." Their performances, filled with the same comedic genius and warmth they were beloved for, add a poignant layer to the film. Seeing them deliver their roles with such satisfaction is a testament to their timeless talent and leaves an indelible mark on the audience's hearts. Their presence in the movie serves as a fitting tribute to their legacy, making the laughter they bring tinged with the sadness of their absence.

The musical score by Ghibran deserves its own accolade. It's nothing short of amazing, seamlessly blending with the film's tone and enhancing the overall experience. Ghibran's ability to capture the essence of the 80s while infusing it with a contemporary vibe is commendable. The soundtrack not only elevates the comedic moments but also underscores the emotional undertones, making it a pivotal element of the film's success.

I find myself perplexed by the criticism and outright hatred directed at "80s Buildup" from certain quarters. Cinema, at its core, is subjective, and while not every film can appeal to all, the vitriol seems disproportionate. In my view, and that of my family, this movie stands out as a beacon of joy and laughter. We unanimously rate it a perfect 10/10, finding it a delightful escape that brought us closer through shared laughter and nostalgia.

The diversity in opinions on cinema highlights the varied tastes and expectations we bring to the viewing experience. Yet, it's crucial to remember the unifying power of film - to entertain, evoke emotions, and sometimes, to simply make us laugh. "80s Buildup" does all this and more, cementing its place in our hearts as a cherished cinematic journey.

80s Build up review
arunrama24 November 2023
A Kamala Hassan fan in 80s flirting a girl on his grand father death funeral day and the story evolves with so many comedies even with a horror comedy script ; Ks Ravikumar as Eman with lungi and Anandraj as manjakili making energetic comedy for the script and thanha Durai as usual mokka blade and motta rajendran and mayilsami having less scope and new heroine looks good ; Ghibran music makes the movie strong ; Santhanam jokes are humorous and his new style looks different ; director tried a comedy but it seems like a wasted script and time .

Editing and VFX in some places feels that this is a low budget movie Cinematography of Jacob made the whole movie in fantastic mode Story line and screenplay is not at all matching even so many legendary actors like Mansour ali khan , Ks Ravikumar and motta Muniskhan scope is less but not as exepected Even though it is a comedy movie we still think that death funeral is not the place to make this type of vibes.

Seriously saying from my heart, the movie was just fantastically funny and very very entertaining!! Such hilarious comedy was done in every scene of it in spite of death scenes which usually will be sad. So much of bursting laughter throughout the movie I hadπŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…. After VPVS movie this one is lit for a comedy one just for a time pass but. I really worry that why such movies r getting UNDERRATED. Is it cuz any audience have any grudges on anyone in the film? To be honest, I hate Santhanam as a hero, but this movie I appreciate solely for the comedy script of it πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜‚πŸ‘ŒπŸ» at least just for a pass time this will be worth watching for all and ignore the story and just watch it for laughing ur heart out πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…
