Assane says that the painting at the heart of the plot, Manet's Chez Tortoni, was "stolen in Boston in 1990". This is accurate, Chez Tortoni was one of several paintings taken in a notorious break-in from Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in 1990 and in real life has never been recovered.
Assane infiltrates the gang under the name of Delangle, which was Arsène Lupin's alias in 'The Infernal Trap'.
