Defending Santa is a merging of two Christmas movie genera including variation on the Miracle on 34th St. and finding a replacement for a recently deceased spouse story themes. Like Miracle on 34th St., Defending Santa follows a similar storyline track of an overzealous DA out to prove Santa is insane, the slow convincing of skeptical town folks that he is the real Santa and Santa trying to get back to the north pole in time to keep Christmas spirit alive. Throw in Santa hibernating in the woods to open the movie, Jud Tylor's vying to be Dean Cain's spouse replacement and time portals to the north pole and there is just enough storyline to keep your interest to the end.
Its not a great movie and its not a bad movie, its just kinda there. Worth watching if you can't get Miracle on 34th St. (or one of its many remakes) on your schedule.

27 minutes in and I can't watch it anymore. The movie has a great start and settings, I like the cast and the Santa, but the plot of a bunch of people trying to say a smiling old man wake up from a coma is dangerous and try to bring him in without the sliver of proof he's violent is unbelievable and cruel.
Defending Santa is a tepid remake of Miracle on 34th Street.
Sarah Walker is a hot shot defence attorney who feels a little guilty for getting a crooked man off. She goes back to a little town near the mountains where she has to defend an old man who has awoken from a coma and swears he is santa claus.
Sarah also hooks up with the small town super Sheriff Hanson, someone she once had a thing with.
The DA who loves to throw an early Christmas party finds it hard to believe that santa claus can be real.
Judge Willis is played by John Savage. Once upon a time he was in The Deer Hunter and The Godfather III. I guess an actor has to make living.
Nothing too remarkable about this festive movie. Dean Cain and Jud Tylor are likeable.

I just flat enjoyed it. Could nitpick it but it had enough not same old same old to both keep me entertained and smiling. A good-hearted, as opposed to slapstick, silly or stupid, movie about Santa never gets old and is soothing to the heart.
What an absolutely terrible film, I mean like everything about is truly, truly awful, avoid at all costs unless you are drunk.

People giving this garbage film a 10 rating must've been paid off by the producers. No one with eyes, ears and a sane mind could possibly think this movie is worthy of a 5 much less a 10. Don't bother with this awful movie.
Just watched it and loved it! Does it seem familiar? Yes! Does it make you feel good? Yes!!
No nonsense feelgood christmas movie for watching during the holidays!
With Dean "Lois and Clark" Cain and Jodie " Full house" Sweetin.

This is the kind of wholesomeness the world has needed for a long time. Feeling lost in life? You could waste a lot of time looking for the answers or you could give this movie a watch (I've seen it 27 times ÷] ). The writing, the production, the directing, the lighting and the acting all pull together to bring you this masterpiece of mistaken identity, suspense and childhood nostalgia. Highly recommended for an all around great time with friends and yes, even family. Haha.

LOVED this film....ESPECIALLY loved characters played by Jud Tylor and Dean Cain....perfect film for the holiday season! Myself, my husband and son really enjoyed it. A film to make you feel good, it made you want to bake cookies and decorate your Christmas tree! And the cast excelled with solid performances...hoping this is going to become a holiday tradition, like watching A Christmas Story or Miracle on 34th Street! In this day and age, it's refreshing to watch a film of this quality, without nudity, drugs, sex, and violence, as this does not always have to be included in a film for it to be successful. Or, to touch your heart....
There's a lot of Christmas movies and I'm so tired of the same old plot where someone is trying to save the toy factory or the ornament factory.,thus movie has a totally different story line and is one of the best Christmas movies this year...don't miss it

I really enjoyed this movie and was smiling all the way through it. I liked the way Santa was "defended" by not only a lawyer but all the children and most of the adults.
It's a wonderful family Christmas movie that I recommend if you are looking for something light and relaxing during Christmastime.
