This amazing short documentary is an open window to the everyday life on the streets of Iran in the months following the revolution of 1979. The camera captures people who are unemployed, politically searching, theatre buff and moviegoers. It's great to see how the short balances the social challenge at the forefront. It works as a commentary on the society as well.

I love the shots of cinema halls, movie posters and it is great how this medium is universal. Another favourite scene of people waiting to get their tickets, books of Che Guevara and Antonio Gramsci.

The final moment was unexpected, i thought after all the slums and drug addicts sequence, it is headed towards a sad ending. But I found the ending to be subtle, optimistic (Utopian) at the same time but the reality is a different story.

Overall, The Newcomers (1979) is one of the best work of art touching upon many important subjects without being too preachy, bolstered by amazing background score.
