Not so bad

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is kind of a standard mediocre action flick, with somehow unlikely story (albeit base on true events), corny dialogs, clichéd characters, and so on. Yet, if you set your expectations low, it's enjoyable for what it is: an action movie with bad guys, heroic military, and a lonely hero that saves the day. Sounds familiar? Yeah, it's similar to hundreds other movies, but it works.

Acting is - mostly - so so (though I've seen worse), but the two protagonists (the hero and the bad guys' boss) are decent. Cinematography is good, nice views of the sea and the ships.

Funnily enough for a Russian movie, the rhetoric is strikingly similar to many American movies: it's good vs. evil without nuances, the ship crew doesn't give up, the military are bad-asses who will - obviously - win. Who knew that Russians could make popcorn flicks? ;-D

A big minus for the Russian film industry

Warning: Spoilers
It felt like the movie "Cowboys vs aliens"

I suggest to read this article "SOMALIA: Russia executed all Somali pirates – spokesman ... "

And the above is just for ballast. Ten suspected Somali pirates captured by the Russian navy last week may have perished after their release, a defence source in Moscow has told reporters.

Marines seized them during a dramatic operation to free a hijacked Russian oil tanker far from shore, killing an 11th suspect in the gun battle.

They were released in an inflatable boat without navigational equipment.

Within an hour, contact was lost with the boat's radio beacon, the defence source said.

An action moved based on a true story
Alexander201810 October 2018
The movie is based on real story of a Russian tanker taken over by Somali pirates in 2010. At that time, Somali pirates did not know yet not to mess up with Russians.

Made for the domestic consumption, the movie shows real attitudes prevalent in the Russian society.
