Nightclub hostess Ruth Ellis climbs the ranks on the club scene, becoming a hostess come manageress, during the climb she meets the dashing but violent racing driver David Blakely.
I've seen various documentaries and Dance with a stranger of course, I was fascinated to see what they would do with the story here, it's approached from an interesting angle.
First episode, excellent, it looks great, the performances are spot on, best of all though they've managed to capture the look and feel of the era. Great music, good choice of lighting, wonderful clothing and sets.
There's a big focus on Bickford and his defence, it's perhaps the only aspect that felt a little questionable.
How on Earth did they manage to make Mark Stanley look so ordinary and dowdy, it's a good effort from the makeup team.
Lucy Boynton was excellent as Ellis, check out pictures of Ellis and Blakely, they got these two absolutely spot on, perfect casting.
8/10.
