Hmm, back to a good formula
HorrorFilmHellion7 October 2023
Not a usually a brainless cheap action fan, but some of these throughout the series offer some entertainment, especially when tired and not really in the mood to blow energy watching something riveting. I just sort of had this one on in the background while cooking and ended up having to pause it several times when I couldn't watch some of the fun action. It's not particularly smart, and comes off a little beefcake, but it is one of the better offerings in the franchise, in my opinion. It's shot pretty clean, with good production value and has some nuance that had me chuckling a bit, more than once- (Intel Pete is always worth a smirk). Decent formula for mindless gory-but-humorous shoot 'em up entertainment. Even a little bit of story for Lady Death. Ultimately, if you have liked some of these in the past, this is now one of the better ones in my opinion.

Back On Track

The Sniper series has had some serious ups and downs in terms of quality. I didn't particularly enjoy the last chapter and when the trailer dropped for 'Sniper G. R. I. T.' I wasn't very enthusiastic about what I saw. The good news is this is a decent sequel and addition to the franchise.

Brandon Beckett (Chad Michael Collins) & Zero (Ryan Robbins) are still working for Gabriel "The Colonel" Stone (Dennis Haysbert) in a newly established CIA offshoot called 'Global Response & Intelligence Team' or G. R. I. T. for short. Six months ago, Lady Death (Luna Fujimoto) was sent on a mission to Malta to assassinate a bad guy called Ivan Bubalo but failed. Now it turns out she's still alive. So the two men are sent in to rescue her, kill Bubalo & his high ranking associates and dismantle once and for all this powerful terrorist cell called the "State of Aragon".

I'd say more about the story, but that would be verging on spoiler territory. What I can say is it doesn't stop there. You get Yuki "Lady Death" Mifune's backstory expanded upon. I'm very happy to report that Brandon takes up the scope multiple times in sniping segments that deliver on the namesake. We're even past the whole "one shot, one kill" notion now. Happy to see Intelligence Pete (Josh Brener) make a return as well. He was one of the few good parts of that last sequel.

There is some real nice scenery of Malta shown. Good camera work - drone shots - that really make the movie have a big budget feel. There isn't many low parts here. Of course, Lady Death was recast. I obviously don't know why, but Luna is not a bad actress. Pulls off many fight scenes and the requisite gunplay needed. Also provides some Japanese dialog. There's some unfortunate CGI violence, gunshots but that has become par for the course in action films these days. However the tone throughout is solid.

The story within 'Sniper G. R. I. T.' won't blow you away, but the action delivers. The cast do their jobs and there's some unique sniper kills though you have to suspend your disbelief when a target survives a direct headshot. Director Oliver Thompson (who did the previous entry) juggles multiple hats here. Not only written & directed, but responsible for some of the music which he collaborated on with actor Ryan Robbins if you can believe it. I thought 'Rogue Mission' was the lowest point of the series, but he redeemed himself here.

As bad as the last one
zaltman_bleros10 April 2024
What happened to this franchise? It's hard to believe the Sniper franchise has spanned over 31 years with 10 movies but the last two are terrible. I like the cast but the execution, the dialogue and the unfunny jokes ruined this one, just like the previous one. It's hardly about sniping anymore and this one seems to be heavily inspired by videogames like Hitman and Sniper Ghost Warrior and the guards even act like NPC in those games. Even the introduction of the targets are exactly like I have seen in those mentioned games. I mean the action is fine but a lot of scenes are just dumb and ridiculous. If they decide to make another one, please return to your roots.

Jumped the Shark

Have they really run out of ideas? From the opening scenes of an overweight cult leader with a star on his forehead that makes for the perfect bullseye, the cheap James Bond garage or batcave hidden in the back of a Chinese restaurant after the first first 10 minutes, it does not really improve.

It is like an awkward teenager trying to be funny and cool at the same time, It doesn't work. The comedy is forced and everybody can figure out what is going to happen next 5 minutes before it does, like we know the tracking device is not in the phones. The actor s do a fair job with what they have but the writing missed the whole Target.

The worst one ever
eprusulis2 October 2023
This is probably the worst sniper movie out of the all of them. They should've gotten the original actress that played Lady death cause this new actress who plays her is terrible. They all have a little bit of comedy, but this one had way too much comedy going on, so they kind of ruined it plus it was almost like it was more comedy and storytelling to action which these type of movies you just want kind of the action do you know these are the type of movies that you really are watching for the story I don't know new was just there was like no chemistry between the three of them I don't know if it's because the new lady death actress, but the chemistry was just awful or maybe they just didn't really want to do this movie but we're kind of being forced to and you can kind of tell. Maybe they had to get scam writers to finish writing the stories I am Meere don't know, but it was bad. Usually they say I don't know around five maybe sometimes it was like I think the last one might've been Sexi somebody some of them were that great but this one was just bad. I very rarely give a movie at two this one definitely deserved it and you know I am BD should be embarrassed by the r reading that I gave it always go Byam. I am Bt's ratings. If this didn't if this had more of a true rating, I would've watched it.

Do you have the grit to waste your time
sabinshrestha3 January 2024
Actors enjoyed Maltese vacation more than the audience. I feel so stupid watching the entire film to find good redeeming parts. It is only the cinematographer who does a fairly decent job in giving that incredible look to historically beautiful Malta, which isn't spoiled by filmmakers yet. The island is already becoming a place of movie productions of all levels. The GRIT team is on its way to destroy the thirty year old franchise.

I agree with another reviewer who finds this as latest in a series of glib, violent and dumb "Sniper" action pictures starring Chad Michael Collins and built on a tsunami of sniper "head shots" as action beats.

You want to kill me Papa?
nogodnomasters2 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Global Response and Intelligence Team is another I. M. F. Style of group doing tasks the C. I. A. Can't do. They don't wear masks and are basically assassins. Their target is to take out all the top dogs in a cult known as the State of Aragon. It is located in Malta and is run by cult leader Bubaolo (Paul Kissaun) who has great swagger music. They have Illuminati insignias and wear bright lime green, like the Sea Hawks. They are also supposed to rescue Lady Death (Luna Fujimoto) who was working undercover and has requested an extraction. All goes well. Too well. They manage to pull off their task, but Lady Death has a price on her head which leads into the rest of the film.

The production liked swagger walks to the point where it was clear the production was meant to be a spoof. The killing scenes were also spoofs, but it is hard to tell as action films are themselves comical without intending to be. If you don't believe me, watch anything done by Steven Seagal. It is a semi-fun popcorn film if you don't take it seriously.

Guide: No sex or nudity. Don't recall any F-words.

Watchable, but somewhat bland action movie...
paul_haakonsen17 December 2023
Another year, another "Sniper" movie, or so it seems. This 2023 movie titled "Sniper: G. R. I. T. - Global Response & Intelligence Team" is actually the tenth movie in the franchise. Believe it or not.

The storyline in this 2023 movie was a bit weak in comparison to some of the other movies, and held up against the 1993 original "Sniper" movie, then this was a whole different league, and not for the better.

Writer and director Oliver Thompson put together a bland storyline. The narrative in the movie was moving forward at a somewhat slow pace. And that made sitting through "Sniper: G. R. I. T. - Global Response & Intelligence Team" somewhat of a mundane ordeal. And for a movie based on snipers, there was a surprisingly little part of the movie's storyline actually devoted to or focused on actual sniping action. Nay, "Sniper: G. R. I. T. - Global Response & Intelligence Team" was more of an action movie than a sniper movie.

There were even some futile attempts at introducing some comedy elements into the movie, which played out with little or no success, to be truthful.

Sure, if you haven't seen other "Sniper" movies, then I suppose this 2023 movie could be considered good.

The acting performances in "Sniper: G. R. I. T. - Global Response & Intelligence Team" were fair enough, and it definitely was a nice enough thing that Chad Michael Collins, Ryan Robbins and Dennis Haysbert returned to reprise their roles from previous movies.

Watchable for the action movie that it was, "Sniper: G. R. I. T. - Global Response & Intelligence Team" somewhat deviated and strayed too far from the original concept of the franchise for my liking.

My rating of writer and director Oliver Thompson's 2023 "Sniper: G. R. I. T. - Global Response & Intelligence Team" movie lands on a five out of ten stars.

A (very) welcome return to form!
allmoviesfan20 October 2023
This was a pleasant surprise, all things considered.

Because the last Sniper movie - Rogue Mission - was so bad that even me, a huge, unapologetic fan of every other entry in the long-running franchise (this is the tenth installment, which is hard to believe), was thinking that, if this was the best they could manage, it should be the last. End it, and leave us with good memories of fun B-grade (in a good way) action films about guys named Beckett!

Thankfully, it wasn't the last one, because Sniper: G. R. I. T. is a welcome return to form. And aren't I happy about it?

If you enjoyed any of the previous Chad Michael Collins films, aside from Rogue Mission, of course, then you'll probably agree.

I realised very early on that everything is better here: the acting, the action, the script, which went in a different direction to what I expected after the first few minutes.

The cast look energised - especially Dennis Haysbert, who is probably seen more in this movie than any other Sniper film he has appeared in - as if looking to provide a mea culpa for their collectively shocking last effort. And, they do.

Is it believable? No. Is it violent escapism action fun? Yes. If this is the standard going forward, I hope there are plenty more Sniper movies to come.

Sniper: G.R.I.T - A Misfire in the Franchise's Precision
allenkumru18 January 2024
In the latest installment of the Sniper franchise, G. R. I. T, my anticipation turned to disappointment. Unlike its predecessors, this film took an unexpected comedic turn, abandoning the series' established serious tone. The recasting of Lady Death with a different character further deviated from the franchise's core concept, contributing to an overall letdown. This departure from the established formula marks G. R. I. T as a blunder in an otherwise beloved and enduring movie series, failing to meet the expectations set by its predecessors. All in all, I think given the direction this has went, the franchise should be over if they want to now make it a comedy.

A total waste of my time watching this crap
mikeste-3054426 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is undoubtedly the worst of The Sniper series of movies.

Amateurish, comic book style, but with a lot of blood splatters.

Nothing good to say about this rubbish. Chad Michael Collins has bulked up a bit, maybe he got paid in gym membership, but the other "actors" should have stayed home. The previous Sniper series actually had some based in reality sniping techniques, This had Beckett sniping on the hood of blue station wagon in the open wide no hint of cover or camouflage. The storyline was pathetic more like a preschool comic book than actual professional writing. Its a pity IMDb doesn't have the option for NO stars.

Watchable but an ever declining franchise
rdamian19636 April 2024
As part of the Sniper franchise this movie is likely the worst of them all. It is more of a parody than a Sniper movie. If this wasn't part of the franchise I might have rated this higher. It is silly, light hearted and whimsical. It's more of a comedy than an action movie. So it's been a downhill trend of the franchise from intense drama/action to silly comedy. The script is mediocre and the acting is passable. The character interaction is well done. It generates most of the humor. Lady Death is recast so that specific character dynamic is different. It's a watchable movie that has entertainment value but a total pendulum swing from the origins of the franchise.
