A disappointing Aussie zom-com.
BA_Harrison14 December 2019
An Aussie entry in the over-saturated zom-com genre, Me and My Mates vs. The Zombie Apocalypse sees a group of friends/work colleagues hole up in a telephone exchange where they try to figure out a plan for survival. This formulaic scenario delivers very few surprises and the extremely low-brow and un-PC humour only occasionally hits the mark.

There is a fair amount of splatter that will please gore-hounds, with a neat shotgun blast to the head and lots of gut-munching, but nothing that we haven't seen many times before in much better movies.

Funniest lines (all delivered by Greg Fleet as Roy):

Roy trying to explain how open-minded he is: "Two of my mates are homos: Lesbo Shirl and Billy 'The Ball Bag' Butcher."

Roy tells his pals his nickname, given for his knowledge of dogs and ability to pick chips: "Dog-knowing and chip-picking Roy".

Roy wants to check if someone is infected: "Your cock and balls... get 'em out now."

Did I mention that the comedy wasn't very sophisticated?

3.5/10, rounded down to 3 for having zombies despatched by paintball guns: I'm all for the use of unorthodox weapons, but c'mon...

Jim Jefferies WTAbsoluteF?
dforce1013 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
(Disclaimer) This review may contain spoilers but to be honest it wouldn't really matter because this movie is so bad.

First off I want to start by saying that at the time of writing my review there were 3 other reviews, 2 positive ones of which are both fake and obviously from people involved in the making of this absolute sh!t fest. The only other honest review was from Sarah. Secondly I want to say Jim Jefferies WTF were you thinking being involved with this crap? I know you were probably doing a mate a favour by being in this and I almost totally agree with Sarah's opinion on what happened to your character but being involved in an absolute sh!t show like this is the kinda thing that could end a career. I only watched this because of Jim Jefferies, he's as funny as fvck. His show Legit should never of gotten cancelled. It was far, far better than the likes of similar shows like Louie which got all artsy fartsy or Maron. Such a shame. If you've never seen his stand up you should really check it out, then you'd understand why I'm asking why he would ever have anything to do with crap like this. Check out his FreeDumb gig fvcking hilarious there's plenty of clips of his stuff on youtube. The only point which I might disagree with Sarah's review is that I think Jim Jefferies might have been in a scene near the end of the movie. The scene where they're in the escape tunnel there's a zombie in different closes from what Jim was wearing earlier that I'm almost certain was him.

I don't get why...
kittenkongshow21 June 2017
I don't get why this film has as many good reviews on here both from users and critics.

I didn't find it particularly funny nor horrific. The acting was not that good either.

I keep getting suckered in by Zombie films and regretting it...

Still at least it's not found footage...Only give this a go cheap or on TV etc...

stars jim jefferies?? did he get bored and go home early?
sj-2982810 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
despite generally poor reviews i watched this for jim jefferies thinking there must be something in it for his fans - believe me their is not. indeed, i thought and still think he gave up halve way thru and asked to be allowed to go home. i joke not. there is a scne part way thru where he seems to get blown up off screen and never appears again, itis hard to believe and all thru remainder of movie i expected he would return to paly soem key function in film, but he does not. I cannot say i blame him for asking to be let off early if that is what happened.

there are so many Aussie tropes that could have played welll to a light hearted zombie comedy that are just missed in this film.

another of those movies where u wonder how people can get backing and the be too lazy(?) or talentless(?) to do a decent job of putting together a fun wack the zombie movie. It has no idea of where it is headed, no sense of whether it wants to be light comedy, boys fun, gore, or whatever and achieves nothing. Nothing at all.

And the stupid shall inherit the Earth
augustian19 August 2019
When I saw this DVD for sale I was hoping for a worthy zombie comedy along the lines of Shaun of the Dead but while there are good comedy moments, most of the humour failed to hit the mark. The plot was a simple one: a group of mates are holed up in a telephone exchange while the zombies are surrounding the building. The banter keeps flowing with the characters discussing the usual Aussie subjects of cricket and beer. In typical Aussie style, they even managed to include a couple of scantily clad women, one of them topless. Discussing the fate of their friend's wife was a good moment and so was the rooftop firework scene but this latter scene looked too similar to the Roadrunner cartoons. The real let-down was the timing of some of the action: some of the zombies took ages to shamble a few yards but if this was meant to be the joke then it failed. Generally, I like Aussie films, both comedy and drama but not this one.

Laughs n gore, not a whole lot more
peter-vast26 July 2015
I have to say, I enjoyed this a lit more than I expected. It had lots of great one liners and awkward comedy moments, and zombies. Plus me, as a zombie extra, I should probably mention. Alex Williamson might well get another role playing the Aussie larrikin based on this performance. Most of his lines were pretty funny and pretty well delivered. Greg Fleet was also very solid and delivered some great lines. Plot wise I loved the concept, and the interplay between the characters was pretty clever. There wasn't a whole lot going on plot wise other than enough to deliver the next classic one liner or gore filled scene, but that wasn't really the point. One minor criticism, the military angle was unresolved, and seemed a bit of an afterthought. Overall, it was pretty bloody hilarious, and well worth your time, even if some of the humour borders on being more than a bit wrong. The opening image and the ending were original and unforgettable. The next movie Daniel and Declan make I'm sure I will also love, as the ideas, writing and humour overall are great. Then again I loved Hot Tub time Machine, so probably don't take this as gospel. To sum up, in my book it's already a cult classic. Aussie zom com - brilliantly realised.

Simply and completely terrible
evan_harvey1 November 2018
This film truly sucks. It's not even worth watching for free. Don't do it to yourself.

The script is mind-numbingly dull. It's 95% talking with some very average jokes occasionally and about 10 zombies. The plot is non-existant. The acting is weak, but the actors didn't have much to work with. The cinematography and direction is basic and uninspiring. At least the sound/dialogue is clear. The zombie makeup is not bad.

They also use paintballs to kill zombies...

I'm all for low budget, but this is not good at all; it's boring and there's way too much dialogue. Even with low budget you can still make a great film. The director and producers chose not to do this. In fact, I think the director didn't actually do anything.

Zombie films are easy prey for low budget, but the filmmakers are just lazy here. Apparently it's a bunch of guys and a token girl hiding in a telephone exchange with zombies outside. Sound like a great premise for a zombie film? No, it really doesn't.

At the time of writing it has a 4.9 rating on IMDB. It doesn't deserve this rating. It deserves a rating of zero. I would've given it at least 1, but it lost that when a zombie picked up a swipe card and immediately went and used it to open a door. Unfortunately 1 is the lowest I can give this total bucket of puss.

A little gem of a movie
jayneflakes3 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I bought this movie on DVD from the bargain section in a local supermarket, for the princely sum of £3. I did not expect much at that price, but given that I quite like Jim Jefferies, I was prepared to give it a shot.

What I was actually presented with was a charming and funny low budget film made by people who clearly love the genre. There are several in jokes throughout the movie and the usual robust Australian humour, all of which made the movie really rather funny in places.

However (and be prepared for a spoiler here) the demise of Jefferies is a beautifully silly and funny moment, which did make me laugh. At the end of the movie, the on going conversation between the last surviving cast of Greg Fleet and Alex Williamson is not only funny, but also clever. As Williamson stumbles over his words, it is hard to tell if it is a cleverly written joke or just a very lucky fumble. Either way, it had me laughing again.

This is not a high budget movie, it is however made with love. The cast clearly loved every moment and to be honest I rather enjoyed every silly moment. One of which came when Roy (Fleet) is explaining to Darryl (Williamson) why he does not like his daughters's boyfriend this is actually a clever joke and it does put a switch on how we the viewer think about the characters. It is true that this movie is not as sharp as Shaun of the Dead and it is not as bleak as Zombieland, but it does have a charm of it's own. Think back to what it was that we loved about the original Romero movies, those low budget gore fests that were about the love of storytelling, rather than fantastic visuals. This movie has a similar heart in it and although it won't appeal to everyone, it appealed to me and I enjoyed it. Best £3 I have spent in ages.

Funny zombie spoof
jbrbsmom5 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Creative funny zombie spoof Has some comedic lines Worth the watch Do not expect too much ...go into it expecting b movie gore, fun, and you will be entertained with this. Creative on a low budget . Along the lines of Shawn of the Dead. The effects are better than average for this genre and the plot is about average. Good laughs along the way and very watchable. It is a better spoof than most. I find that about 90% of this type of movie I cannot even watch and I turn off after ten minutes and this one I actually ENJOYED.

My first 1 Star review
laurahippensteel30 April 2019
This was just God awful. Definitely no Shaun of the Dead. I don't know if there's an Australian humour that doesn't translate, but I had to turn it off after 50 minutes. There honestly wasn't even anything redeemable enough for it to deserve one star.

Flush It
gregberne1120 March 2020
This is a boring, terribly written, poorly executed, cheaply shot, amateurish production. Even for a deliberately stupid zombie comedy "Shaun of the Dead" knockoff, this movie is pitiful. The acting is horrifyingly bad. The jokes are terrible. The story is mind-numbing and stupid. There is nothing good about this movie whatsoever. Not even an occasional laugh, or any cool effects or zombie kills. There's only a handful of zombie extras and it looks like they made this for about ten bucks. They repeat the same jokes over and over. This is the worst zombie comedy film I've ever seen. Skip it. You're welcome.

A clean car is the only difference between them and us
nogodnomasters10 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Darryl (Alex Williamson) and Joel (Jim Jefferies) work at the telephone exchange during the zombie apocalypse. They are soon joined by their boss Roy (Greg Fleet) and his daughter Emma (Adele Vuko). Joel and Darryl had recently killed Roy's wife and Darryl spends the whole film attempting to break the news to Roy. They are later joined by two apprentices (Matthew Popp, Andy Trieu ) one of which is the boyfriend of Emma and not liked by her dad.

This is an Australian comedy-horror. Our heroes are nonchalant about the zombie issue and care more about trivial aspects in comparison. There is plenty of blood and guts. Most of the humor consists of one liners that work.

Guide: F-bomb. Brief sex and nudity.

I see a bunch of negative reviews and I gotta say they're wrong. This movie is hilarious. I don't know what they were expecting but it delivered what I was expecting. Loved it.
