Joju George's excellence.
AjHuntt25 November 2023
"Pulimada" revolves around the life of a policeman whose life dramatically turns when his fiancée disappears on the day of their wedding.

Joju George's exceptional acting skills bring the character to life. His ability to convey the complex emotions of betrayal, heartbreak, and determination contributes significantly to the film's impact.

Despite the intense emotions explored in the movie, it offers a sense of closure with a happy ending. This contributes to its appeal as a one-time watch, leaving viewers with a satisfying ending.

Aishwarya Rajesh's also did a good commendable portrayal. Altogether the movie is a good weekend time killer.

The Impact of Weed Depiction on Screens
sajin-5380727 November 2023
The portrayal of weed (marijuana) use in movies is a nuanced topic with significant implications for audiences. Film has the power to shape perceptions, influence behavior, and contribute to societal attitudes. Understanding the impact of such depictions involves considering various factors, including normalization, influence on perception, effects on young audiences, educational opportunities, artistic expression, and the legal and social context.

One of the primary concerns associated with the portrayal of weed use in movies is the potential normalization of the behavior. When characters engage in drug use casually and without facing realistic consequences, it can create a perception that such activities are socially acceptable or even glamorous. This normalization can contribute to desensitizing audiences to the risks and negative outcomes associated with drug use.

Movies often serve as a mirror reflecting societal values and norms. Therefore, the portrayal of weed use can significantly influence audience perception. If films consistently present characters using weed without addressing potential negative effects or legal implications, viewers may form skewed perceptions of the drug. This influence can extend beyond the individual level, contributing to broader societal attitudes towards marijuana.

The impact on young audiences is a particularly critical aspect of this discussion. Younger viewers may be more susceptible to the influence of media, and the portrayal of drug use in movies can shape their attitudes and behaviors. If weed use is depicted without adequate context or consideration of its consequences, it could contribute to a more permissive attitude towards drug use among impressionable audiences.

On the flip side, movies can be a powerful platform for education. Filmmakers have the opportunity to use their narratives to explore the complexities of drug use realistically. By accurately depicting the potential risks, consequences, and legal implications of weed use, movies can serve as cautionary tales. Such films can contribute to a more informed and nuanced understanding of the subject matter, encouraging viewers to critically examine the choices and behaviors depicted on screen.

Artistic expression plays a crucial role in how drug use is portrayed in movies. Filmmakers may use drug-related themes as a narrative device to explore character development, societal issues, or psychological aspects. In some cases, the depiction of weed use might be intended to provoke thought and discussion rather than to glamorize or endorse the behavior. Responsible storytelling involves a careful balance between artistic freedom and ethical considerations, ensuring that the portrayal of drug use serves a purpose beyond mere sensationalism.

The legal and social context in which a film is produced can also influence how weed use is depicted. In regions where marijuana is legalized, filmmakers may feel more comfortable portraying its use casually, reflecting changing societal norms. However, in areas where marijuana is illegal, filmmakers may approach the subject more cautiously, acknowledging the legal ramifications and potential harm associated with drug use.

In conclusion, the portrayal of weed use in movies carries significant implications for audiences and society at large. The normalization of drug use, influence on audience perception, impact on young viewers, educational opportunities, artistic expression, and consideration of legal and social contexts all contribute to the complex interplay between films and societal attitudes towards marijuana. Filmmakers, as influential storytellers, have a responsibility to approach this subject matter with sensitivity and awareness, recognizing the potential impact their portrayals can have on viewers. Likewise, audiences should engage with media critically, considering the broader implications of the content they consume and its potential influence on societal perspectives and behaviors.

Great start but...

The film had a great start and the production design of this movie is set in Wayanad, where not many movies are shot. The story was engaging and started with a bang, but sadly, it lost its aura in the second half. The supporting actors were cracking in the first half and I admire the humour-rich conversation of Jaffer Idukki, who had an important role in the movie.

Joju was so good throughout but the movie collapses as it proceeds due to its weak screenplay. I expected more in the second half, and it would have been great if the creators could have put more effort into the second half. Below average experience overall.

Good acting
Ash_warrier2 December 2023
Honestly that's all there is to say. Directed by AK Sajan. Story is of a police officer who lives in the middle of the jungle in a house made by his father. He's shown to be a loner who questions his sanity as his mother was chained up as a mad person. First few moments are his marriage not happening after engagement, he has his criteria for the woman he wants to marry also, don't work, use the bathroom outside etc. In the forest! He becomes unhinged when she doesn't show up for the wedding, and that's when Mahishmathi comes like a beautiful butterfly.. and he loses all control that night. There is also a tiger strolling around. The ending honestly was very predicable. Everyone acted well, that's one good think about this movie.

Pulimada Review

Warning: Spoilers
While the roles have been played by good actors it makes no sense to justify something that is intense and unlawful.

The person being under influence of alcohol and weed tries to rape a woman. The actions are justified saying he was under the influence of alcohol and stress since his wedding didn't happen.

There is no moral to this movie it's showing a story of a man who tries to rape a girl and escaped and also he continues his life with positivity and happiness.

There are dialogues such as " whatever happened happened you need to keep going forward it life"

Acting was good but the story is ridiculous.

Pouring water on legs reduces hangover apparently.

Vincent aka Ummachan is an unlucky unmarried man in his 40s. He is a loner and fears his mental status owing to his mother's issues. After several rejections, his marriage is fixed with Jessy and he tries his best to stay confident enough to move forward with this phase of his life. Sadly, Jessy elopes, humiliating him infront of everyone. Heartbroken Vincent resorts to drinking and sulking. Meantime, a tiger has been spotted and people are notified to not roan around alone in the night. Vincent yearns to spend the night with a woman and comes across a stranded tourist. He brings her back to his house, lying it to be an homestay. What happens on that night as he loses control and how many times they announce about the supposed tiger on the loose, forms rest of the story.

Pulimada was truly a disappointing watch, pointlessly dragged through it's 100+ minutes, relying on the lead actors Jojy George and Aishwarya Rajesh. One can sympathise with Vincent's plight initially but after a point, there isn't much relate with that character's actions. Similarly Aishwarya gets a weakly written character of Mahishmathi and the hype behind keeping her character a mystery till the end, didn't pay off. This is solely due to the writing and that entire subplot involving the tiger warning fades away as apart from being an ineffective plot tool, it offered nothing. For the actors' caliber, this ended up as a forgettable venture and even they cannot save this mess.

Could be awesome or worthless - depending on one theory/fact (spoilers)

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure how to rate this movie. Acting was excellent as expected from Joju joseph. The first half was good and keeps raising the expectation - Joju's character gives a vibe of Chola and Iratta.

But there's an unknown in the movie which is not clearly mentioned - that is, whether the Mahishmathi character and the related events were imaginary in Joju's head. If mahishmathi is imaginary, then the "manager" and psychiatrist characters should be imaginary too.

If these characters and events are imaginary, it's truly an amazing movie. But if those characters are real, the whole second half is cringe and nonsensical and doesn't fit the class of the rest of the movie in any way.

If her character is imaginary, the movie can be rated 7 or 8 /10, if she's real the rating should be 1/10 😅.
