Studio 8H has been rocked by a bait and twist: A major cast member is exiting Saturday Night Live, but it’s not Kate McKinnon. TVLine has learned that fellow cast member Leslie Jones will not be returning for show’s upcoming 45th season. Meanwhile, McKinnon — whose SNL pact expired in May — has extended her contract for (at least) another year, sources confirm.
An NBC rep declined to comment, but an insider tells TVLine that Jones chose to depart to focus on other opportunities (like her forthcoming Netflix standup special).
SNL is set to kick off Season 45 on Sept. 28 with Woody Harrelson and Billie Ellish serving as host musical guest, respectively.
An SNL staple since 2014, Jones has twice been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards (in 2017 and 2018). She’s an Emmy nominee again this year for co-writing the lyrics to “Upper East Side,” a song featured in SNL‘s 44th season.
Jones’ additional TV acting credits include roles on ABC’s Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, NBC’s The Blacklist, Hulu’s The Awesomes, Comedy Central’s Workaholics, and FX’s The League. Jones also hosted the 2017 Bet Awards, and contributed to NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2016 and 2018 Olympic Games in Rio and Pyeongchang, respectively.

Seth Green and several other “Robot Chicken” writers and producers have sold an adult animated comedy pilot to Hulu, Variety has learned exclusively.
The series is titled “Crossing Swords.” When Patrick, a goodhearted young peasant with dreams of earning his knighthood and dispensing justice to evildoers, lands a coveted squire position at the royal castle, his dream job quickly turns into a nightmare. In this kingdom, corruption starts at the top, and staying true to his lofty goals will be a thornier proposition than Patrick anticipated. It’s all the sex, violence and full-frontal nudity you’d expect from a “premium fantasy soap starring pre-school toys.”
John Havartine and Tom Root will write and executive produce. Havartine joined “Robot Chicken” as an executive producer in 2012 during the show’s sixth season, while Root is the show’s head writer and executive producer. Green will also executive produce along with Matt Senreich and Eric Towner.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Who is your favorite voice actor for animated characters on TV? Why?
Dave Trumbore (@DrClawMD), Collider
My knee-jerk reaction was either Kevin Conroy or Mark Hamill for their roles as Batman/Bruce Wayne and The Joker, respectively, because “Batman: The Animated Series” is always on my mind. But thinking a moment more, my favorite voice actor (and arguably the best in the biz) is Frank Welker.

His name might not be a household one, but with over 800 credits and nearly 50 years in the industry, Welker’s voice definitely is.

Time has become a precious commodity for television viewers. With dozens of original shows regularly premiering on streaming services alone, there are more options than ever, especially when embarking on new show catch-up. When whole seasons are available overnight, that can make prospects seem even more daunting.
But even if it’s just for a single season, sometimes a show’s best episodes come later in their run. And when they arrive, part of these memorable episodes stand out because they stand alone.

While many are anxiously awaiting the arrival of DC's Legends of Tomorrow on The CW, another superhero team is disbanding -- at least for now. Hulu has cancelled their animated series The Awesomes after three seasons reports THR.

Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker's animated comedy "The Awesomes" has been cancelled after three years on streaming service Hulu.
Ike Barinholtz, Taran Killam, Kenan Thompson, Rashida Jones, Bill Hader, Rachel Dratch and Bobby Moynihan have all lent their voices to the satire about a group of up-and-coming superheroes.
The series will now be shopped around elsewhere. The decision not to renew the series is a rare move for Hulu as the streaming company looks to increase its slate of original series with new ones on the way like "11/22/63" and "Casual".

Hulu’s library of original programming is a little less awesome now. The streaming video platform has canceled The Awesomes, an animated superhero comedy co-created by Seth Meyers, after three seasons.
The Awesomes was one of Hulu’s first ever original series. It was teased at back-to-back Newfronts presentations, and it was presented as a big part of Hulu’s plan to move beyond licensed TV shows and films and into a new space where it could fully match up with competitors like Hulu and Netflix. With those big expectations hanging over it, The Awesomes premiered in 2013, and it was...decent. It didn’t exactly revolutionize the TV industry, but it did pick up a large enough audience to last for three seasons.
Variety, which first reported the news of The Awesomes’ cancellation, reached out to Hulu, but representatives for the streaming platform declined to comment.

Seth Meyers is a busy man. This summer, the former “Saturday Night Live” head writer will spend lots of late nights at NBC’s “Late Night” while also finishing postproduction on Season 3 of “The Awesomes” and the first run of IFC show “Documentary Now!” Not that he’s complaining. “It’s not terrible. The streaming wars continue to escalate: James Franco has signed on to star in 11/22/63, Hulu’s previously announced nine-episode adaptation of the Stephen King novel. He’ll also be a producer on the project, which is from J.J. Abrams’s Warner Bros. TV–based Bad Robot Productions. While 11/22/63 will be Franco’s meatiest TV role since 1999’s Freaks and Geeks, he’s done plenty of small-screen work since becoming a movie star, including guest turns on General Hospital, 30 Rock, The Mindy Project, and Nick at Nite’s Hollywood Heights. Though Hulu has produced some solid shows in recent years — most notably Hotwives of Orlando and the Seth Meyers–produced animated comedy The Awesomes — 11/22/63 represents the streamer’s first big prestige play,...
