Actor Mohit Malik has worked across media including television and Ott, and is now set to embrace the big screen with Abhishekh Kapoor’s upcoming project. He said he is happy to work in TV, digital space and in movies as he doesn’t want to be limited to just one platform.
Mohit said: “I am really excited and looking forward to the release of [Chamak] Season 2. My character has evolved from the previous season, and people are going to see a different side of Guru. The storyline is more intense and gripping.”
“It is going to be more about revenge, with a lot of music to it. I can’t wait for the audience to watch it.”
Mohit made his mark in the Ott space with projects like ‘Cyber Waar’ and his recent work on ‘Chamak’.
For the actor, the platform doesn’t matter.
“It’s all about the content.

Punjab has suddenly become a point of interest for Hindi cinema. For the past few years, many interesting stories have come out of quaint towns in the state, which was previously projected as a place known for merriment, alcohol, and Canada. Starting from Udta Punjab, which incidentally also starred the amazing Diljith Dosanjh, Imtiaz Ali, the director of Amar Singh Chamkila, has also briefly explored Punjab through his classic hit Jab We Met.
Kohrra, Tabbar, Pataallok, and the latest SonyLIV show Chamak extensively covered Punjab meticulously and gave us a different picture of the state. This Punjab is not surrounded by ‘sarson ke kheth’ and people are not always in the mood to sing and dance. Amar Singh Chamkila, the Netflix original, is based on the famous Punjabi singer of the same name, whose life was tragically cut short.

Rohit Judraj’s Chamak is a decent attempt to showcase the ever-thriving music industry in Punjab, which reflects the amount of talent that has been coming out of that state in the past many years. There has been a change in the trajectory of stories presented in modern television shows and movies. As mentioned in my Shehar Lakhot review, many filmmakers have moved away from the Hindi heartland and are exploring other states. Punjab is one of the states that many writers and directors have been focusing on. Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab opened a Pandora’s box of stories, and there has been no end to it ever since.
Tabbar on SonyLIV broke all the records for being an out-of-the-box story, while Netflix originals Kohrra and Cat did not shy away from showcasing the gritty side of Punjab, the image if which was once dominated by beautiful farms and warm, welcoming people as per Yash Chopra films. Chamak, created and directed by Rohit Jugraj, is the story of an artist who comes back to Punjab from Canada only to uncover mysteries about his family.
