A painfully awkward, overweight teenager reclaims her right to happiness and self-worth by running against a pretty, popular queen bee in the school election.

Gippi is a 14-year-old girl who lives in Simla with her mother Pappi and little brother Booboo. She is overweight and awkward and doesn't know how to handle the physical, emotional and social changes happening in her life. In school, she is a backbencher and is constantly bullied by the popular queen-bee Shamira. At home, she's trying to figure out how to deal with living in a broken home. In the middle of all this chaos, she falls madly in love with an older, brooding heartbreaker. When her love story comes to a humiliating end, and she is publicly scorned, she decides to take her life in her hands and accepts Shamira's challenge to stand against her in the school elections. Whatever the final outcome might be, Gippi makes sure she has a great time in the journey, filling it with delicious desserts, funny teachers, school crushes, and Shammi Kapoor dances. Gippi is a coming-of-age story of an ordinary, overweight girl, who, through the course of the film, learns to love herself for exactly who she is. Gurpreet "Gippi" Kaur (Riya Vij) is a 14-year-old girl who lives in Shimla with her mother Pardeep "Pappi" Kaur (Divya Dutta) and little brother Booboo (Arbaaz Kadwani). She is overweight and awkward and doesn't know how to handle the physical, emotional, and social changes adolescence brings. Pappi runs a beauty parlor in town.

Aanchal (Doorva Tripathi) is Gippi's friend. They discuss things like the developing size of Anchal's breasts and how to hide them at school. Gippi tells her to tie her hair in 2 braids and let them hang out in front, thus covering her breasts. Aanchal and Gippi have just entered class 9 of their St Mary's Convent school. Aanchal is also having her periods, and Gippi is intrigued as hers have not started yet.

Ashish is a boy in Gippi's class, and has a crush on Gippi, but as Ashish is a nerd, Gippi has no interest in him, and she ignores him when he comes over to talk to her.

In school she is a back-bench student and is constantly bullied by the popular queen-bee Shamira (Jayati Modi) and at home, she's trying to figure out how to deal with living in a broken home. Pappi is divorced & Gippi's dad (Pankaj Dheer) is getting married again & is making a song & dance of the whole thing & rubbing it in Pappi's face. Gippi and Booboo are invited to their dad's engagement party, and Pappi refuses to go by saying that she has a business to manage, even though she is feeling hurt inside and barely able to hide her feelings of disappointment. Pappi and her ex-husband have been divorced for 2 years.

Shamira befriends the newest chocolate candy in class by the name of Kabir (Mrinal Chawla). Gippi despises Shamira as she is constantly in her face & leaves no opportunity to make fun of her at every available instance. The other girls in Gippi's class are Titli (Ayesha Goswami), Tania (Anah Talwar), and Sonia (Avanti Talwar). Gippi is paired with Kabir for the Chemistry lab. Gippi is anyways irritated at Kabir, and in her distraction, she mixes the wrong chemicals which create a mild explosion in a test tube.

In the middle of all this chaos, she falls madly in love with an older, brooding heart-breaker named Arjun (Taaha Shah), whom she meets at her dad's engagement party in Delhi. Gippi's dad is marrying a drop-dead foreigner beauty named Jennifer (Bruna Dummer). Arjun goes to the high school wing of her school. At the party Gippi feels that Arjun is a genuinely nice guy & falls for him. Arjun also comes from a broken home as his dad abandoned his mother and settled in New York with a foreigner. Arjun takes Gippi for a dance and touches her arms, which she finds seductive.

Gippi returns to Shimla with Booboo and is in a dreamy daze the entire trip. All she can think of is Arjun, even after enters home. Back in Chemistry Lab, Kabir wants to change partners and Gippi retorts that maybe he wants to be closer to his girlfriend Shamira. Kabir objects and says that he has no girlfriend. The school headmistress Sister Maria (Farida Dadi) announces school elections for the post of head boy and head girl and invites applications for the same. The results of the elections will be announced on the night of the Christmas party.

Gippi meets Arjun at school after they come back from the party. She even announces to Shamira that Arjun is her boyfriend. But Arjun refutes this claim & says that he is not Gippi's boyfriend. Shamira challenges Gippi to bring Arjun to her party. Gippi asks Arjun and he agrees to come to the party.

At the party, Arjun serves alcohol to Gippi and encourages her to loosen up. Gippi starts to have fun and dances at the party, which irritates Shamira, who confronts Gippi. Gippi states that she does not care what Shamira thinks as Arjun likes her. But Arjun and his friends simply laugh at Gippi. Arjun states that he only came to the party for free booze and food and that he had no interest in Shamira.

When her love story comes to a humiliating end, and she is publicly scorned. Kabir tries to stand up for her, but Gippi does not notice his efforts. Gippi decides to take her life in her hands and accepts Shamira's challenge to stand against her in the school elections.

Whatever the final outcome might be Gippi makes sure she has a great time in the journey, filling it with delicious desserts, funny teachers, school crushes, and Shammi Kapoor dances. Gippi is helped by her entourage which includes her brother Booboo, her friend Aanchal & her friend Ashish (Aditya Deshpande) (who earlier had a crush on Gippi). They give Gippi a makeover, help her with her studies & even try to get her a boyfriend to boost her image.

The efforts are a disaster when Kabir steps in & offers his help. He makes Gippi realize that her biggest asset is that she is like everyone else at school & the students want to vote for someone like themselves & not for someone whom they think is better than them & will rub their faces in it all the time.

Kabir also asks Gippi out to the Christmas party where the results of the election will be announced. At the party, in the loo, Shamira walks up to Gippi & laments that for 3 years she made sacrifices of her personal time so she could build her profile to be head girl of the school. And now, Gippi is set to be head girl, without actually doing or changing anything & maybe not even knowing what it means to be head girl.

Gippi wins the elections. But she realizes that she does not have any inclination to work on school & student issues & that Shamira is actually more suited for the job. She withdraws from the election, giving Shamira the victory. Gippi reunites with her friends & has a party at her home with all of them.
