Netflix Greenlights Korean Thriller ‘The Rat’ and Rom-Com ‘Lovestuck’
Image
Netflix is producing two new Korean original series – a thriller titled “The Rat” (working title) and a romantic comedy called “Lovestuck.”

“The Rat” has confirmed the casting of Ryu Jun-yeol and Sul Kyung-gu in what will be their first collaboration together. Based on the Kakao Entertainment webtoon “Field Mouse” by Ludovico, the series draws inspiration from an old Korean folktale where a rat transforms into a human by consuming clipped fingernails.

Ryu Jun-yeol will play Moon-jae, a sociophobic novelist living a reclusive life. His character’s world is turned upside down when he discovers his fingerprint no longer unlocks his phone and his only friend goes missing. Stripped of his identity and finances, Moon-jae learns that a mysterious entity known as “the Rat” has stolen everything from him, setting him on a quest to reclaim his life.

Sul Kyung-gu takes on the role of No-ja, a loan shark who operates a private detective agency.

This Popular Webtoon Is Getting a Netflix Adaptation Next Month
Image
From Oldboy to Burning, South Korea has proven that it has no problem delivering a quality revenge tale. In series format, this isn't any different, and a new title is arriving to underscore that we want them to keep coming. Mercy For None is a new action K-drama that is debuting on Netflix next month, and it centers around a dangerous killer who returns to the underworld of crime after his brother is killed. The series is set to premiere on June 6, and you can check out the trailer in this article.

At this point, revenge and assassins' stories immediately bring the John Wick franchise to mind. From the looks of it, though, Mercy For None will be able to stand out in the genre. The series has a pretty distinct nighttime look, and the protagonist Ki-jun seems to be as ruthless as he is skilled. In the story, Ki-jun...

Will ‘Kingdom’ Season 3 Ever Happen at Netflix? New Interview Gives Hope More Is Coming
Image
Picture: Ju Ji Hoon in Kingdom – Netflix

It has been nearly five years since the second season of Kingdom premiered on Netflix, and there is still no indication of when we might get a third season. The cast, including the lead actor Ju Ji Hoon, has been busy with other projects, and the head writer is also busy, which means we won’t see a third season in 2025 or even 2026. However, recent comments from Ju Ji Hoon have raised hopes for a potential revival of Kingdom soon.

Debuting on Netflix in January 2019, zombie horror Kingdom was an incredible addition. Praised extensively for its story, costume design, make-up, cinematography, acting, and more, fans were just as ravenous as the undead for more Kingdom. The second season laid the groundwork for even more Kingdom, and over a year later, in July 2021, its sidequel, Kingdom: Ashin of the North, was released. However, since...

Netflix’s Gripping New Medical Drama Is Perfect for 'Grey’s Anatomy' Fans
Image
Medical shows are a dime a dozen on TV, but Netflix's latest K-drama is already drawing in an audience. The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, directed by Lee Do-yoon and written by Choi Tae-kang, was originally adapted from the animated web series Trauma Center: Golden Hour, and focuses on a hospital that, at least initially, functionally has no trauma department. When devilishly handsome trauma surgeon Baek Kang-hyuk (Ju Ji-hoon) arrives at the hospital, he is horrified to find out that doctors from all departments take turns being on-call for emergency surgeries. The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call's depiction of the petty office politics that come up in hospital settings is very reminiscent of Grey’s Anatomy, as is the way it switches between moments of levity and harrowing emergencies with ease, perfectly balancing gut-wrenching depictions of medical procedures with funny, quirky characters.

The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call Season 1 Review: Heroes Amidst Hospital Bureaucracy
Image
In the landscape of South Korean television, where medical dramas often balance between melodrama and intense realism, The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call stands out as a dynamic story blending high-octane action and emotional depth.

Streaming on Netflix, this series explores the intense world of trauma medicine through Dr. Baek Kang-hyuk, played with compelling skill by Ju Ji-hoon. As a combat medic turned trauma specialist, Dr. Baek represents the complex hero—a professional asserting his confidence against bureaucratic challenges and systemic issues.

The series begins with an intense sequence that establishes the character and narrative, as Dr. Baek works in a war zone, a dramatic introduction presenting him as a professional shaped by conflict. The show challenges traditional expectations—Dr. Baek exists as a determined professional, racing against time to preserve lives in a system that seems resistant to its core mission.

His arrival at Hankuk University Hospital reveals he...

‘The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call’ Recap, Ending Explained & Full Story
Image
The medical field offers such a gratifying, demanding, thankless, and noble vocation that you can’t help but get immediately hooked into a medical drama from the get-go. Even though viewers who are somewhat familiar with the genre already know that the stories are going to follow more or less a similar narrative pattern— focusing on an unorthodox lead who is miraculously skilled to take on increasingly challenging situations—medical dramas continue to be interesting and inspiring by upholding the core ideals of empathy and compassion. Netflix’s latest South Korean medical drama series, The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call, which follows a team of emergency medical responders led by an enigmatic, dedicated doctor who is willing to risk everything to prioritize saving lives, blends heart and humor to present an engaging narrative. The intrigue of the series focuses on a very universal problem of prioritizing monetary affairs over healthcare...

Squid Game (2021)
The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call Recap & Ending Explained – Who Operates on Dr. Baek Kang-Hyuk?
Squid Game (2021)
Netflix is currently surfing the wave of K-Drama content, having achieved global success with “Squid Game.” Interestingly, “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” (Original title: Jung-jeung-eui-sang-sen-teo) is a medical drama about a trauma center, released concurrently with “The Pitt” (2025), another show created in the US about a trauma center in Pittsburgh. It signals the resurgence of the medical drama genre, which never really died out but was given a much larger canvas and far greater sheen.

The difference is that the K-Drama, created by Choi-Kae Tang and directed by Lee Do-Yoon, is homaging the web novel and its webtoon adaptation and thus carries a very heightened nature. But since it doesn’t skimp on the stakes of the cases in the trauma surgery, as well as the gory nature of the operations, the show works.

The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call Episode 1 ‘Enter Doctor Maniac’ Recap:

The opening sequence of the show,...

‘The Trauma Code’ Netflix Review: Step Aside, Dr. House, We’ve Got A New Genius In Town
Image
The Korean industry is no stranger to a good medical drama. We’ve been seeing good medical dramas out of Korea for ages. Whether they’re serious, melodramatic, or comedic, they mostly work. The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call is an 8-episode Netflix original that follows the story of Dr. Baek Kang-Hyuk, a genius surgeon who’s just moved back to Seoul from abroad to work at the prestigious Hanguk National University Hospital. We see how Baek navigates the trauma center along with a few key figures who he recruits into his team early on. Kids that he takes under his wing to train into becoming excellent emergency workers. The show doesn’t have some complicated overarching tale, and each episode follows a new case, though the way everybody in the hospital feels about Baek is the main conflict of the show. Baek’s a genius doctor who doesn’t...

‘The Trauma Code’ Ending Explained & Finale Recap: Does Hnuh Get A Helicopter?
Image
The Trauma Code’s ending makes it feel like the whole show was set up just to introduce us to a helicopter. Of course, I’m only joking, but for a show about emergency rooms, the focus is quite a lot on this one helicopter that our lead protagonist, Baek Kang-Hyuk, is after. Now neither is the helicopter a metaphor for something profound nor is it just a helicopter; I suppose it’s an emotion. The show tells the story of Baek Kang-Hyuk, a genius trauma doctor. Kang-Hyuk finds himself at Hnuh, or the Hanguk National University Hospital, one of the biggest hospitals in the country, after the health minister asks the hospital to appoint him. Kang-Hyuk himself doesn’t come from a known university and does things on his own terms—a doctor without manners. This leads to nearly all of the hospital scheming against him, while the 3 doctors...
