It was little surprise that the Chris Hemsworth action-sequel “Extraction 2” would lead Netflix’s Top 10 chart for the week of June 12, but the original “Extraction” ended up taking second place as viewers that missed it caught up before watching its sequel. Read on for this week’s analysis, noting that Netflix has begun focusing more on total views for many of their films and series, rather than just hours viewed.
“Extraction 2” scored 42.8 million views worldwide since debuting on the streamer on Friday, June 16, or 88.4 million hours viewed, as the #1 most-viewed film in 88 of the 93 countries where it entered the Top 10. Ireland was the only primarily English-speaking country that had a different movie watched the most, and that was “Paw Patrol: The Movie.”
The original “Extraction” from 2020 scored 9.6 million views for 18.8 million viewing hours, while “Paw Patrol” was watched 6.6 million times or 9.4 million hours. Even less of a surprise...

In the second episode of the documentary, The Playing Card Killer was finally caught, but not by the police. The man, who identifies himself as Alfredo Galan Sotillo, confesses to the crime in a drunken state but woke up the next day to retract his statement. This stirs up some confusion, but the police are not keen on letting the man go. Thus, begins Alfredo’s trial. Will he be convicted, or will he be acquitted?
Alfredo’s lawyer, Helena Echeverri, claims that the statements that the man has made in custody cannot be considered to be true because she feels the police may have fed him words to suit their narrative. This seems like a plausible scenario because the investigative officers could go to any extent to frame the culprit. But again, unless Alfredo reveals that he was forced to make this testament, his confession stands as the main piece of evidence.

The first episode of the three-part documentary was about the police finding a breakthrough in the form of a 7.62 Tokarev cartridge, a bullet found in every murder carried out by The Playing Card Killer. This will help the police investigation get a hold of the killer. What is their game plan from here on? The second episode begins with Teresa Sanchez describing what happened on that day when she lost her son The pain with which Teresa describes the ordeal of being faced with death is palpable, and as an audience member, one can empathize with her for having witnessed the death of her only son. The way she recollects the memory, it is easy to conclude that the bereaved mother is still not over her his death.

After almost a month streaming on Netflix, Jennifer Lopez‘s action-thriller “The Mother” continues to reign over the global top 10 chart for the week of May 29. Read on for this week’s analysis.
This week “The Mother” was once again the #1 English movie across the globe with 16.5 million hours viewed, but it also entered Netflix’s all-time chart as the eighth most-watched English language film on the streamer with 229.3 million viewing hours. It was only the number-one movie in Jordan, of all places, but it remained in the top 10 for 89 countries total.

Netflix gained a new competitor last month (sort of) when HBO Max and Discovery+ combined forces to create the confusingly-named Max. With its list of new releases for June 2023, however, Netflix doesn’t have too much to worry about.
This month is filled with some major Netflix original titles, not the least of which is The Witcher season 3 volume 1 on June 29. Though star Henry Cavill is set to leave the Polish folklore/video game adaptation in season 4, he remains very much entrenched as the titular Witcher in this next go-around. Other big TV hits include Manifest season 4 part 2 (June 2), Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources season 2 (June 9), and animated King Kong series Skull Island (June 22). That’s not even to mention the return of Black Mirror season 6. That still has yet to receive a release date but we have no doubt it will be properly epic once it arrives.
