Exclusive: HBO has put in development Headhunters, an hourlong project based on the best-selling 2008 book by Norwegian crime fiction author Jo Nesbø. Alexander Woo will write the adaptation and will executive produce with HBO-based producer Carolyn Strauss for Swedish production company Yellow Bird Entertainment, which owns the rights to the book, and Lionsgate Television. Headhunters is a dark comic thriller centered on a corporate headhunter who becomes the hunted when his life and marriage are suddenly targeted by an unknown individual. Yellow Bird, which first produced a hit Scandinavian film based on the novel, sold the English-language movie rights to the book to Summit Entertainment in 2011, shortly after the book was published in the U.S. The rights transitioned to Lionsgate following the company’s 2012 acquisition of Summit, with the project morphing into a TV series. Yellow Bird’s Marianne Gray and Berna Levin also executive produce. Another Nesbø novel,...

Updated: Another NBC pilot that narrowly missed the cut to series is staying alive. I’ve learned that the network has extended the options on the entire cast of the untitled Craig Robinson pilot, which I hear also is getting an order for three additional scripts. The project, written by Owen Ellickson, centers around a talented musician (Robinson) who adjusts to his new life as a middle school music teacher, where he maneuvers precocious kids, teacher politics, and the temptations of single moms. The cast of the pilot, from Universal TV, Deedle-Dee Prods and 3 Arts, also includes Larenz Tate, Amanda Lund and Jean Smart. Ellickson is executive producing with Greg Daniels, Tracy Katsky, Gabe Miller and Jonathan Green, who helped rewrite the pilot script, Howard Klein and Mark Schulman. Robinson serves as producer. The Craig Robinson pilot joins fellow NBC/Uni TV comedy pilot Assistance, which recently received an order...

Now that the Supreme Court has struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act, Modern Family‘s Cameron and Mitchell may finally make their way down the aisle.
“It’s a real possibility,” executive producer Christopher Lloyd shares with EW.com as he discusses how the landmark decision will impact the ABC comedy.
“It’s certainly something we are contemplating on the show in ways we wouldn’t have in prior seasons,” he continues. “As you can imagine in Cam and Mitchell’s life, they would be feeling that a door has opened that was closed to them. Wouldn’t...

Exclusive Updated: In another indication that they are high on drama pilot I Am Victor, I’ve learned that NBC and pilot’s producer Universal TV have extended the options on six cast members, led by star John Stamos, who plays the title character, an La divorce attorney. Also picked up are Matthew Lillard, who plays Victor’s best friend; Angela Sarafyan, who plays Victor’s sassy assistant; Kosha Patel and Josh Zuckerman, who play young legal associates/interns; and McKaley Miller, who plays Victor’s daughter. Earlier this month, the network commissioned a rewrite by Mark Goffman who wrote the original pilot. Based on Jo Nesbo’s book, I Am Victor centers on Victor Port (Stamos), a high-powered divorce attorney with a unique view of relationships. As we reported, the project is being retooled and likely will focus more on Victor’s legal cases while still dealing with his...

NBC already has seven new dramas on tap for next season, but it may not be quite finished with its orders.
The network has asked for a rewrite of the pilot for "I Am Victor," a legal drama starring John Stamos as a divorce attorney. NBC passed on it during the upfront season but wants writer Mark Goffman ("White Collar") to take another pass at the script, Deadline reports.
The show has already gone through some behind-the-scenes changes, with executive producer Katie Jacobs ("House") departing during the pilot process. The rewrite is expected to have a somewhat lighter tone than the original version and may also shift focus a little -- whereas the original split its time between the title character's work and personal life, the reworked version would be centered on the courtroom.
One other possibility, per Deadline: Two of the show's female characters may be merged into one potential love interest for Victor.

Boasting a bona fide TV star, John Stamos, NBC‘s drama pilot I Am Victor came close to a series order last month. And now NBC is taking another crack at the project. I’ve learned that the network has commissioned a two-week rewrite by the original script’s scribe Mark Goffman. Based on Jo Nesbo’s book, I Am Victor centers on Victor Port (Stamos), a high-powered divorce attorney with a unique view of relationships. The new direction of the project is still being hashed out, but I hear it will likely focus more on Victor’s legal cases vs. his personal life, which will remain a part of the show. I hear NBC liked the show’s legal world and Stamos, who tested very strong. There is also the issue of the show’s tone, which first became a point of contention during the filming of the pilot...

In the onslaught of series pickups and passes over the past couple of days, it is hard to keep track of the pilots that have not been picked up to series, which are dead and which are still alive. It is still early to tell about CBS, which is not done yet picking up new series (pilots Backstrom and Friends With Better Lives are among a number which are still in contention). Additionally, CBS is shopping Beverly Hills Cop, which got a pass from CBS. And I hear the Jim Gaffigan comedy, which is not going for fall, will likely undergo reshoots. Here is a rundown of what pilots are still in contention (not for fall) at the other nets: ABC: Comedy Bad Management is still alive, and ABC is looking for a way to make it. Dramedy Murder In Manhattan and comedy Pulling are dead at ABC but are...

NBC‘s first batch of new series pickups answered some questions, mainly taking care of five slots on NBC’s schedule next season. But they also raised a slew of new questions, mainly related to the pilots that have not been picked up yet. (There may not be other new series orders today Btw.) The biggest hole on NBC’s initial list of five new series — comedies Sean Saves The World, About A Boy and Family Guide and dramas Crisis and Believe, is what is believed to be NBC’s top pilot this season, drama Blacklist. It comes from Sony TV, which has four major pieces in play — Blacklist, hot comedy pilot Welcome To The Family, medical drama pilot Night Shift and bubble comedy Community. (technically, Sony’s comedy pilot Brenda Forever is also alive.) Maneuvering and some give-and-take is expected, and when the dust settles with Sony, NBC will...

It’s pilot screening week, with the networks’ executives huddled in rooms watching the fruits of their development teams’ labor. The networks are still going through the process, with testing results just starting to pour in, but here is the latest pilot buzz I’ve compiled from various sources around town. Related: Complete Primetime Panic Pilot Listings NBC had the breakout new drama of last fall, Revolution, and now the network has what could be the strongest drama pilot this season with Blacklist. I hear Blacklist and Crisis (aka untitled Rand Ravich) are considered front-runners on the drama side at NBC, buoyed by very strong testing. In fact Blacklist might be the highest-testing drama pilot at NBC in about a decade, and I also hear the male lead played by James Spader is one of the highest-testing characters ever for producing studio Sony TV. Also in the running are the...

Stamos a Victor in New NBC Series. NBC's drama pilot I Am Victor has John Stamos in talks for the project based on Norwegian writer Jo Nesbo's upcoming novel. According to sources, Universal TV is producing the show which follows Victor Port, a high-powered divorce lawyer who holds a unique perspective on relationships. Mark Goffman writes and also executive-produces I Am Victor with Daniel Rappaport, Meghan Lyvers, Nicolas Salmonsson, Katie Jacobs and Nesbo. Stamos is vastly experienced in TV, with credits from the classic Full House series, Thieves, ER, Glee and the The New Normal. Film-wise, he's in newcomer Mike Young's My Man is a Loser with Sean Young, Michael Rapaport, Bryan Callen and Tika Sumpter...
