Anna Maxwell Martin who plays Delia Balmer in this on real events based series, plays her role as usual: cold, strong and intelligent. She makes it perfectly clear that the English justice system had abandoned her and has made terribile mistakes.
Her new found friend David, played by the ever loving and caring Kevin Doyle (Molesley in Downton Abbey), is like a safe haven for Delia.
Shaun Evans plays John Sweeney, the killing monster with a psychopathic attitude towards women. It is very difficult to see Shaun Evans playing this role, however. Although being a good actor, I think Shaun Evans is burdened by typecasted as Endeavour (Morse).

After being left for dead, Delia faces a huge battle to recover physically and mentally, she gets a chance to move on, but always lurking in the background, is John.
I was told to expect a dip after two episodes, but there isn't, it's just as good as the first two, it really is a harrowing story.
One thing that's captured, imagine going to your home, and feeling unsafe to step inside, for fear of being attacked, that is bleak.
Anna Maxwell Martin, what an actress, all I can say, this is surely a BAFTA winning performance, she's incredible here. Delia is a fascinating individual.
I'm wondering now as time of moving on if Delia is perhaps autistic, does that account for her behaviour?
I have to disagree strongly with the other review on here, I think Shaun Evans has been phenomenal in this,
Terrific.
9/10.

It was a shock ending to the second episode. Delia Balmer goes through a frenzied attack by John Sweeney. Only the intervention of a neighbour saved her.
Sweeney leaves the scene of the crime and evades the police.
Delia is hospitalised and again distrusts the police. A liaison officer is assigned to her and she does get Delia to trust her. It is clear though it is just a job for her. The police view Delia as a hot potato, just difficult to deal with.
With her injuries, Delia will never be the same again. She suffers from PTSD, drinks heavily and is distrustful of people and institutions.
She does get a boyfriend in David but her trauma is always nearby.
Then John Sweeney is found and arrested as a suspect for the murder of Paula Fields in 2001. Ith no evidence to tie him for her murder. The police want Delia to testify against him for the attack on her in 1994.
I did squirm at the courtroom scenes. Delia was clearly unstable and it shows the police and the prosecution in a poor light. Either not preparing her enough for the courtroom or noticing that she needed help for her PTSD.
You can understand Delia's trauma and predicament. She has not healed but the police just did not help. Even when they needed her assistance.
