This week on Black Ink Crew: Chicago, Don Brumfield decides that it’s time for Ryan to find love – and he’s going to put in the effort to make sure his friend finds the relationship that he needs.

When it comes to why Ryan Henry is single, Don really doesn’t have a good answer. He just knows that he’s going to hook his Gemini friend up with a new love interest.

Don won’t be looking for Ryan’s next love on his own either – he found a matchmaker to do the heavy lifting.

But when Don tricks Ryan by bringing the matchmaker Devyn on a double date in an...

Teddy Ray, Stand-Up Comic Who Appeared In HBO Max's Pause With Sam Jay, Has Died At 32
Image
Stand-up comedian and viral video star Teddy Ray has died. The news was confirmed this weekend by Comedy Central and Deadline, with the latter reporting that memorial details or cause of death have been announced. The performer was 32 years old.

A hilarious and good-natured improviser and a talented stand-up comic, Ray appeared on series like HBO Max's "Pause With Sam Jay," Biniam Bizuneh's comedy show "How To Be Broke," and the web series "Bsu," made by Issa Rae's Hoorae Media. The comedian was also featured on Comedy Central, in a set where he professed his preference for "chill outs" on stage as opposed to "act outs," and talked about singing Keysha Cole songs around gangsters as a child.

Many of Ray's most memorable viral moments came from seemingly off-the-cuff comments, as when he coined the popular phrase "double cheeked up on a Thursday afternoon" in an All Def Digital...

‘Live Pd’ To Be Revived on Reelz This Summer as ‘On Patrol: Live,’ Hosted by Dan Abrams
Image
The producers of “Live Pd” are reviving the show’s live format on Reelz, but under a new working title: “On Patrol: Live” is set to premiere later this summer, the network announced Wednesday. Just like “Live Pd,” the show will air live, twice a week (on Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to midnight).

The news comes two years after A&e pulled the plug on “Live Pd,” in the wake of ongoing protests against police brutality and concerns over coverage of police activity following the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota.

“Live Pd” was a juggernaut for A&e, dominating cable ratings and spawning multiple spinoffs, including “Live Pd: Wanted,” “Live Pd: Police Patrol,” “Live Pd Presents: Pd Cam.”

Big Fish Entertainment, which was behind “Live Pd,” will produce the new show via Half Moon Pictures, its new arm devoted to crime and investigative series. Dan Abrams,...

Mental Health Nonprofit Slams Will Forte Suicide Drama as ‘Wildly Irresponsible and Callous’ (Exclusive)
Image
Following Friday’s development news of a Will Forte drama that centers on a grief-stricken man planning his own suicide, one mental health organization is criticizing the concept as “wildly irresponsible and callous.”

The show, “Expiration Date,” is described as a “dark suburban soap” in which a man finds a life insurance policy that covers suicide, so long as the individual does not carry out the act within 12 months, and sets about planning out his final year. The show is currently in development at Peacock.

“What a wildly irresponsible and callous concept that will, no doubt, endanger countless viewers,” said Bill Smith, founder of Inseparable, in a statement. “Glamorizing suicide leads to contagion, that is a fact. At a time when our country is already suffering a mental health crisis compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has left Americans’ mental wellbeing at a two-decade low, the last thing we need...

Netflix Added Over 25 New Movies And TV Shows This Week
Unsurprisingly, with just five days to go until Christmas, the focus for a lot of people has shifted solely towards festive fare, even if the ongoing effects of the Coronavirus pandemic promise a holiday season unlike any other in living memory, with restrictions being tightened around the world as the recent surge in infections shows no signs of slowing down.

Luckily, there are more than enough streaming services available to provide plenty of content to keep everyone occupied, and while Christmas movies have been dominating the Netflix Top 10 most-watched list all week, heartwarming tales of family and friendship aren’t the only titles being added to the library these days.

This week brought almost 30 new additions covering a wide variety of genres, with the biggest of the bunch being Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which sees the late Chadwick Boseman deliver a career-best performance opposite an equally fantastic Viola Davis...

New on Netflix: December 2020 Releases
David Fincher
The year is almost over. The Hargreeves kids have saved the world and Beth Harmon has checkmated her last opponent. But in its new releases for December 2020, Netflix still has some tricks up its sleeve.

For starters, Netflix is ending this most curious year with some promising original films. David Fincher’s long-awaited Mank arrives on Dec. 4 to fill us in on the story of Citizen Kane‘s screenwriter. Then on Dec. 11, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and James Corden do their best musical impression with The Prom. Chadwick Boseman’s final film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom debuts on Dec. 18. Then George Clooney rounds out the month with The Midnight Sky on Dec. 23.

But of course, it’s in the original series realm where Netflix does most of its work. The biggest one comes at month’s end this December. The final season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premieres on New Year’s Eve.

‘Live Pd’ Producer Big Fish Entertainment Prepares Competition Drive With Sylvester Stallone Project As A&e Format Enters Fourth Season
Live Pd producer Big Fish Entertainment is preparing to do battle in the competition arena with a number of projects including a sports combat series with Sylvester Stallone. This comes ahead of the launch of A&e series America’s Top Dog and as the “controlled chaos” of its biggest franchise Live Pd returns for a fourth season.

Big Fish founder and president Dan Cesareo outlined the company’s plans in an interview with Deadline and discussed its ongoing strategy for the smash hit A&e police format, new Cmt series Sweet Jesus and its long-running Black Ink Crew franchise.

Cesareo recently brought a project to market featuring Rambo star Stallone, who also previously fronted Netflix’s first major move into the non-scripted genre with Ultimate Beastmaster. Pluto TV Adds Seven More Free Viacom Channels, Including One for ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’
Viacom continues stuffing more library content into Pluto TV, its free, ad-supported internet streaming service, adding a range of African American and Lgbtq programming from VH1 and Bet.

VH1 is further expanding its Black Ink Crew unscripted franchise with a third series, Black Ink Crew: Compton. The new series, which follows Danny “Kp” Kilpatrick and his crew at Iam Compton, will debut July 30 with a two-hour premiere.

This is the third series in VH1’s Black Ink Crew franchise, following the Harlem-set mothership show, which has aired for seven seasons, and spinoff Black Ink Crew: Chicago, which has run for five.

Black Ink Crew: Compton centers on Kp and his crew at Iam Compton, the first-ever tattoo shop in Compton. It uses as backdrop the California town known for its musical influence and iconic street art. Kp, famed tattoo artist and visionary whose clients have included Diddy and Taraji P.
