A Masterpiece in LGBTQ content
thecarterfilez6 April 2023
This is ACTING.. this is CINEMATOGRAPHY. This is chemistry without PUSHING it in our face.. it's subtle. It's unspoken. I grew up watching shows like skam and skins and despite me loving the fluff of Thai BL's... I love gritty lgbtq stories and I believe shows like this will open the door and kick it wide open for more Asian countries to do more lgbtq esque shows like this and what 180 degree longitude did a while ago as well. How are these actors ACTING without even speaking...they don't even need dialogue and it's so powerful between them that they don't even need words. Highly recommend it !

Good acting with Good storyline and considerable air time for a episode
jiminjimin-014875 April 2023
This story line is interesting and I love how they make each episode into more than 40 min. Their tension is really growing slowly yet interesting to watch and viewers are eager to watch next episodes because of that.

The acting of the actors are superb. They are so natural. It is like a water drop to all low budget, 15 min, 8 epi Korean BLs. Directors have done a gd job as well. Also the story writers. I hope they make it to Netflix so they can become even more bigger.

I hope more BLs like this would happen so the Korean BL industry will be the next big thing just like Kpop and other straight Kdramas.

Good job by Lim Ji Sub.

South Korea stepping up their game!!!
SofiaParkJeon8 May 2023
OMG!!!!! Where to begin? And what can I say that hasn't been said already? I don't know I just want to talk about it because I need to cry about it somewhere.

This show deserves all the praise and more and I feel tempted to write one of my essays again but I'll refrain. I just NEED to say that Korea is really out there taking the bl genre seriously, finally, with great plots, performances, and chemistry.

"Our Dating Sim", "Unintentional Love Story" and "The Eighth Sense" are all from this year and they're all so good, I've watched them all more than once. None beats this one though.

This is the best bl show of this year so far and I bet it will be unbeatable!

Plot - 10/10 Performance - 10/10 Chemistry - 10/10 Love scenes - 10/10 Photography - 10/10 Directing - 10/10 OST - OMG BEST EVER!! There's not one song, instrumental or not that doesn't fit perfectly in every scene, and I'm literally obsessed with it.

I just can't say it's the best bl of all time because I'm emotionally attached to "Semantic Error" and can't move on, but this one is a very close second.

Watch it. Watch it again. Give it the love it deserves!

Did I just write another essay? Aish I'm sorry 😅

An Aesthetic masterpiece...
greeshmasubran29 April 2023
I haven't written any reviews yet even though there are lots of movies and series that I adore. But I thought this one really deserves attentions and appreciations. Because it is an absolute aesthetic masterpiece. Everything about this series is perfect. The plot of the story may seems cliche but it explores the worries and uncertainties of graduates regarding their future. That is real and relatable. It's really fresh to see an understanding and non toxic relationship with amazing acting. Not just the protagonists but all the have done justice to their roles. I can't end my review without mentioning the cinematography, bgm and OSTs of this series. They deserve special mention.

A wonderful masterpiece
claudiblau26 April 2023
I have watched many k dramas, but this one stands out!

The two main leads did an amazing job! Lim Ji-Sub was able to carry so many emotions without having to be loud or overly dramatic.

Jun Taek-Oh did his first acting job and damn he did well! These two blew me away. They also had a wonderful chemistry and I am in awe of their talent.

What also makes this show so special-the cinematography was incredible and so on point. The camera work, the angles... perfect! It is art! You simply can tell that they put a lot of love in this drama.

And the soundtrack is great too.

I will rewatch this again like now!

Incredible. Feels like the cast and crew put proper thought and effort into the series.
okxyhunter16 April 2023
Really great so far. The storyline isn't just a simple boy meets boy tale. It really goes deeper than that, it shows true moments of intimacy between then and gives your complete attention to their raw chemistry together.

I made this account specifically to write a review here, it's seriously beautiful.

I've watched many BLs, and sadly it's always been obvious that the cast have some awkwardness, and usually, they're always comedic so that they don't have to deepen the characters' stories, and also... sadly low budgeted... But this.

Wow. Blown away.

I thought Blueming was excellent for a Korean BL, but this goes beyond. Much more beyond than any Korean BL out there as of right now.

You could even compare it to the likes of Kinnporche, the cinematography and all the elements they combined; the actor's portrayal of their characters. Absolutely amazing.

It feels like something you'd find on Netflix whilst scrolling The air time is nearly an hour an episode!!!!

I'm so happy this was made.

Overcome Your Fears with the FreeBirds
cbjschultz29 April 2023
One of my top BL's, heck more like top dramas. I really enjoyed it. It was so moody and the use of colours was very impactful on the story. Everything was great; the acting, the directing, the cinematography, the OST. I find myself listening to the songs over and over again just playing back these scenes that I associate with the songs now, and when a drama does that for me, it hit a soft place in my soul. It was just an amazing story that was different and touched on a lot of subjects that are very relevant today. I loved the way it was filmed, you can tell every camera movement was meant to be that way. I loved the main actors chemistry as well, their moments were super cute but also I felt like they really cared about each other deeply, so the difficult times they went through felt realistic. They did a great job portraying the characters. Thank you to all of the actors, actresses and staff on the film! Please watch!

  • Love from a FreeBird.

everybody rated ten, so...
elsamirre4 May 2023
Kidding. It was gonna be a ten any way.

The chemistry . Maybe cause i was sick yesterday, I was on fire with chills and electricity running through my limbs and belly. What's strange is I felt okay as soon as I paused the show...??!

The boys behaved very caringly around each other, like a real couple. Their acting was terrific; just by looking at their faces, I could tell how they felt and feel with them. They didn't even have to utter a word.

The story was pretty simple. We don't even get to know what actually happened to the dead dongseng (not a spoiler). By the way, what is the meaning of the title??? At some point I though there would be a story with a ghost. But no. The little "twist" after the accident was cheap, cruel, petty, and I hold it against the writer. Seriously. Playing with our feelings like that? But none of this was enough to ruin the vibe. So hard to lay down my phone and go to sleep. I slept and then woke up at four in the morning to watch more!

The cinematography was amazing, mesmerizing. The kiss in the middle of the foaming waves, the golden-rose aura, the peaceful sightviews... so romantic...T_T <3 The music... I already added the OST to my playlist.

Right now, I feel happy and I remember why I NEED a good BL now and then, when nothing else will cheer me up. More, please. It doesn't have to be a complex plot. All it requires is butterflies. This was beautiful. Thank you.

For anyone who enjoys top tier storytelling
rashminibandara28 April 2023
Simply put "The Eighth Sense" is a captivating and emotional story that follows the journey of two college students as they navigate their way through life, love, and self-discovery while tackling their fears and demons. The show features a talented cast of actors (special shout-out to Im Ji Sub & Oh Jun Taek) who bring their characters to life with great depth and authenticity, and the cinematography is stunning, capturing the beauty and complexity of each scene.

The series explores themes of self-identity, family & societal expectations, friendship, and love, and does so with grace and sensitivity. It tackles important issues such as mental health in a way that is both honest and heartfelt, without ever feeling preachy or heavy-handed.

Overall, The series is a beautiful and moving tribute to the power of love, understanding, and the importance of finding and accepting oneself, and it is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who watches it.

Mixed Feeling
tomoe_toe9620 August 2023
I am just so confused about the script and how they build up the characters. I got so frustrated watching Eunji and Taehyung being a brat the whole time. I mean how are they supposed to be 'sunbaenim' to the hubaes and Jaewon's friends all those years with such behaviours. It is clearly unacceptable and irrational.

I got so fed up hy half of the show and the only thing that lingers me back is the chemistry from the main leads, Jisub and Juntaek. Their chemistry are so good, well-portraited and well delivered.

I just got mixed feelings watching the show. I think the script could have been better written.

ONE OF BEST DRAMAS I'VE SEEN IN A WHILE
deliamaira28 April 2023
Just amazing! I've literally cried at every second of the final episodes. The producers really know how to build a story through the OST because it seems like they carefully decided to choose the songs played in the project. I really just wanna congratulate everyone envolved in this production and say they deserve every single praise since they've made it the whole thing in just one month with a really low budget.

The actors were amazing and were able to show the emotions of these complex characters that go through so much in the story like the accident, depression and other things. Everything their acting was perfect!

The Eighth Sense = best show ever
storiesofterysmile28 April 2023
The Eighth Sense is probably the best bl series I've seen so far. How Jihyun and Jaewon won me over, how the directors were able to get us into story doesn't happen much these days. The story, the dialogues, the lights, the music, the cinematography, everything was perfectly portrayed. The series has both happy and cute moments and of course bad and sad moments, but that's what I love about the series. I hope we will see a sequel, because both the main actors Ji-sub and Juntaek, the directors, but the whole team of people around the series deserve it! We need more Jaewon and Jihyun moments as couple!

the best korean BL
chiaralimardo28 April 2023
Everything about this show is excellent, the cinematography, the music, the main leads chemistry.

It made me laugh, cry, smile and also be jealous cause I only wish to have a relationship like the one they have. I was just so impressed by the fact that those two are literally each other's safe places and their relationship felt really natural which is something we dont always see. Every single touch, every single time they looked at each other, everytime they talked I just felt butterflies all over. Thank you directors for giving us such an amazing show, thank you for giving us a happy ending and thank you jisub and juntaek!!

Watch it or I'll find you
pettyg-1935826 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Let's talk about the obvious first. The cinematography is beautiful, Thea acting is superior and the storyline is not your usual run in the mill bl trope. I found this on the day it was released and I'm so excited because I had heard nothing about the series before hand. To my pleasant surprise the episodes were almost 40 minutes long. This was perfect for this story in particular because one of our main leads has unresolved trauma. We get to have snippets of his therapy sessions which gives us an insight of what he's feeling and what he's been through. The length of the drama is perfect because normally traumatic events in BLs are usually rushed to push foreword the story. Having the "conflict"start with our two main leads and then resolving it in the second to last episode is perfect because we get the last episode as a fluff. More dramas should do this in general because it's obviously more satisfying to have the last episode with them being secure and loving than just say the last 10 minutes. Now the actors as individually. Oh Jun Taek did great ofcourse. He really played Ji Hyun perfectly. Im Ji Sub now is just wow. The way he was able to capture Jae Won and display a character with trauma and depression is top tier acting. Not once did his performance fall flat. And together their chemistry!?!?!?!?! Yea overall it's something new and fresh and you should watch it because I have superior taste when it comes to dramas and if I say it's good then the source is trust me bro. Watch it.

My favourite BL of 2023!
YASSIE976 May 2023
I started watching Korean BL's when they first started airing them like where your eyes linger, to my star ect and even ones before than and I have to say this is probably one of my favourite! As I also make edits on YouTube under the name YASSIE97! I like that it was actually realistic and bittersweet the cinematography and music is amazing and the actors were casted perfectly. I never re-watch any shows but I already re-watched this show twice! It might not need a season 2 but maybe a special episode I'd love to see :) I would love to see more promotion of the show actually I hope it becomes more popular.

Artistic and Beautiful Series
maddygaisimon28 April 2023
Slice-of-life indie film and BL Drama collide in this series. The story itself is fairly simple, but the mastery of the production team has made it something artful and unique. The series dives unashamedly into a realistic portrayal of Jae Won's depression and prolonged grief disorder. The development of the relationship between Ji Hyun and Jae Won is organic and subtle. Beautifully acted by Ji sub and Jun Taek.

There is nothing campy about this drama. There are no repetitive flashbacks or corny uses of maudlin soundtracks typical to the BL drama genre. The Eighth Sense treats the audience with intelligence. Every indication of attraction, every piece of character development relies on nuanced acting and cinematic elements rather than over-the-top cartoon sound effects or repeating short shots. There are artsy mood colors and blurred images, shallow focus, high and low key lighting, but for the most part the series is shot at eye level and over-the-shoulder with simulated movement to make it seem that we are immersed in the story. It's as if the audience is there, sneaking a video on our smart phones. We are spying on this cautious couple.

There are so many standout scenes, but one that I especially love includes Hyun's clunky but lovable childhood friend. His reaction to Ji Hyun being gay is adorable. And as much as I loath the jealousy and pettiness of Jae Won's best friend Tae Hyung and ex girlfriend Eun Ji, the actors play their roles perfectly.

One of my favorite characters is Yoon Won. She is delightful and warm, a talented singer and perfect friend. Her genuine, open reactions to everything is charming. Every actor in the series is brilliantly cast and exemplary. I hope to see more from this production team and these actors in the future.

A well-written drama!!
leandermaximus28 April 2023
The acting, cinematography, pacing, and others, it's an overall kill! It's a must watch drama! I would watch this drama over and over again because of its plot. It also give awareness about our mental health and give a lot of life lesson that would surely touch the heart of its watcher. Also, the dialogue and the expressions of the actors are on-point that it gives justice to the writers. I would recommend this KBL! Overall, "The Eighth Sense" appears to be a promising addition to the Boys Love genre, offering a fresh perspective on realistic romance. Fans of Korean BL dramas and realistic-themed shows may enjoy watching it!!

Best Bl I have seen
hellokenya28 April 2023
You have to watch this Bl right now. It has to be by far the best Korean Bl I have ever seen. It is perfectly cinematic and has a great plot. It also talks about the serious and sad things that can be going on in life. For example, depression, death, and guilt. This show might give you some angst but don't worry it is all worth it in the end. In this show there is friendship, love, and some lust. It is very exiting to Watch and keeps you on your feet wandering what will happen after this. It's sweet and can be sad at times. Overall the couple in the series is beyond lovely and develop beautifully. Once again, you have to go watch it. Just by seeing the trailers I already knew I was going to fall in love with it.

So so good, from cinematography to storyline to acting
daisynguyen-7861629 April 2023
First, I just need to say this series is one of the BEST series I've ever watched so far. I've never been so hooked to any series like this before. The directors have a knack for incorporating different camera angles, lighting, and sound. It's just so nice to enjoy the music throughout the movie too, especially the song at the last episode, The Story by Conan Gray, which is my all-time favorite song too. What I love the most about this series is the message it conveys, which is so relatable, resonating, and realistic for young adults like me. Various themes are touched throughout the series, including mental health issues (actively seeking professional help, yes), personal identity, love, trauma, friendship, prominent social issues in South Korea (class between the rich and the poor), etc. On top of that, the acting from Lim Ji-sub and Oh Jun-taek are off the charts, their easy and electrifying chemistry has given me butterflies the whole time. I would love to see more movies of Ji-sub and Jun-taek, and the two directors, as well as look forward to season 2 (if possible) in the future. Just a huge thank you to the whole team for working so hard for the audience to enjoy such a top-notch movie. Please keep up the good work. "The eighth sense" will be my favorite series forever.

A Poignant Reminder of the Complexities of Healing
bookloverfrankie28 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The series explores the complexities of love and trauma. The story follows Ji Hyun, an introverted country mouse who finds it difficult to adjust to city life as a new student in Seoul. However, he finds solace in Jae Won, a fellow surfer and as their shared love for surfing brings them closer together, they begin to develop romantic feelings for each other. Their relationship is complicated by Jae Won's reluctance to acknowledge their relationship which leaves Ji Hyun confused about their connection and must navigate the emotional complexities of Jae Won's traumatic past.

The series' sensitive portrayal of trauma and mental health is commendable. The show takes a thoughtful approach to explore mental health by giving viewers an insight into Jae Won's therapy sessions and emotional journey throughout the series. Through the character's experiences, the drama highlights the complexities of healing. The show's unique perspective on mental health is further highlighted through Jae Won's decision to take one step forward and try harder for his own sake and his loved ones despite the years of struggle he was carrying and the difficulty in looking towards the light. This message is a poignant reminder that healing is a gradual process that requires effort, patience, and self-love which is not explored well in most dramas.

The show's cinematography and soundtrack are also notable, capturing both the beauty of the ocean and the emotional turmoil of the characters in a visually stunning way. The performances of the two leads, as well as the supporting cast, are also noteworthy, bringing depth and authenticity to their roles. However, certain scenes in the series were confusing and it might have been a stylistic choice in order to visually represent the characters' emotional states but the execution felt lacking. Jae Won's character could have also been portrayed with more nuance, as his expressions sometimes felt frozen.

Overall, "The Eighth Sense" is a well-crafted and emotional drama that tackles important issues in Korean lgbtq+ dramas. While there are some execution issues with certain scenes and character portrayals, the show's overall message of self-love and healing is both timely and impactful.

Seriously, watch it. It's awesome.
mwwszxk28 March 2024
The Eighth Sense stands on its own outside of any genre, language, tropes, whatever. I keep getting drawn back in and every time I watch it I find something new. I didn't major in film-I'm a math person, not a film buff or anything, and tbh I typically don't watch anything super artsy-but this series for me is like something alive. You know that episode of Parks and Rec where they have to come up with a mural design and Tom Haverford is all caught up in the one w the shapes? That's how I feel about this series. Everyone involved in making it should be proud af. Just go binge it, then binge it again.

A Change in Korean LQBTQ content
alexhurst-803872 January 2024
I have never written a review for anything before but this show really deserves the needed praise. This series is different to anything I have seen in the BL genre as everything seems so personal and realistic which trances the viewers into watching it.

The actors did a superb job finding their vulnerability in the show and you could feel the tension. The way the actors really portrayed being in love but trying to find it subtly and as well as trying to hide it. One episode that really caught my interest was episode 6 as the sensuality between the two actors was mesmerising.

This show is a real step up in South Korean dramas and I'm very curious on how this affects upcoming BL topics and scripts.
