Ok, but could have been done in 10 episodes
presspaws17 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This show is ok, the main leads are good and work well together. However, once we found out what happened with the whole Macau/best friend being bad and setting up the male lead, they could and should have wrapped it up there - the last few episodes are a bit pointless and boring. And don't get me started on the annoying mother of the female lead - she's awful!

The name of the show is also pretty bad - surely they could have come up with something better than that?!

Overall, it's ok but nothing special. There are far better Korean dramas out there. A better hospital one is Doctor Ghost - that's excellent and also on Netflix.

2 shining stars light up the screen
phd_travel10 March 2024
It's been a while since we had A list stars in a rom com. So it's wonderful to have the 2 pretty Parks back from thriller genre to this type of series. And these 2 are in their element here. Sparkling chemistry that is always pleasant never painful. Romantic comedy with lots of comedy.

The story starts off involving with both their respective career crises. She with a nasty boss and he with a malpractice suit. Immediately they get our sympathies. Funny flashbacks of them as students. And luckily they are still young enough to play themselves as teens. Their also is her funny family that is always in their business headed by Jang Hye Jin of CLOY and Parasite. The humour is spontaneous and laugh out loud funny. And it is touching the way they help each other.

One faults is they seem to encourage drinking alcohol to feel better. Quite wrong for people on meds for psychiatric problems. Hope it wasn't product placement by the alcohol industry.

The issues with his friends are quite realistic.

Recently K rom coms have lacked either a really funny story or uniformly top notch casting. This is a welcome return back to the funny and well cast shows of the past. Good thing no silly love triangles and other done to death cliches. Its mostly enjoyable. The last few episodes ran out of steam. Should have ended earlier.

Sadly heading into a slump
Dillydaydream19 February 2024
I really enjoyed this up until episode 8. Two people who are qualified and were practicing doctors must surely be in their mid to late twenties and mature. In episode 8 they are like lovesick young teenagers. I'm not suggesting they should fall into bed because this is not Kdramas way but it could be a more realistic age appropriate relationship.

On the plus side the two leads are very good. I have liked PSH since Heirs and it's great to see her back in a drama since marrying and having her baby. Park Hyung-Sik is good in this part and they do have nice chemistry. I'll watch it to the end with the hope that it becomes good again!

Review on Dr. Slump
euginebarros29 January 2024
This series is outstanding, it tackles about mental health. There's a lot of learnings that you can get from the series. It's very relatable to those who are doing everything just to build their career, and those who are experiencing burn out and depression. It's very timely and relevant. The actors are very good in portraying their characters. The chemistry is there. It also talks about family. The first two episodes are very interesting, I was crying and laughing at the same time. The characters of the sorry really resonates on my experiences. I am super excited and I can't wait to watch the upcoming episodes. Kudos to the production team and the writer of this piece.

Dr Slump, a rom/com with a message!
cherrymaygarma19 March 2024
Each and everyone needs a healthy mind and body, so we will be able to face life's adversities. It affects all of us, rich or poor, young or old etc. But it is how we face our trials and tribulations that is most important. Recognizing, accepting and doing something right. Asking professional help, having good support from family and friends. We cannot just stand alone. Life's problems will always be there and every time we solve one life gets better. Beautifully and very well performed and portrayed by the all actors. To the director, writer and all the staff, a job well done! Best wishes! Congratulations!!! It is a very heartwarming and educational Korean TV series.

Good overall
TheodoraEh21 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen too many Kdramas so two things are happening : 1. I'm always hoping the next one I watch will be as good as the ones I've loved in the past. And 2. I'm so used to some things that kind of suck that I ignore them or just fast forward, and try to focus on the overall picture.

So in this case I was hoping it'd be great and I'd love it and become one of my all time faves. It didn't happen but I managed to ignore the parts that sucked and focus on the good parts.

For example, yes it's ridiculous for two adults to act like children when it comes to relationships and skinship, but that shocked me on the first kdrama I ever watched. Now I consider it normal. Overall I found this pair realistic as to how the build their bond, and cute.

I'm also a bit sick of scenes where they yell and scream a lot either for comedic purposes or for dramatic ones like crying etc but I just fast forward through those.

And the excessive drinking. It's a staple in Kdramas but I think they overdid it in this one. And I couldn't help thinking they're also on psych meds, and that's a pretty bad combo to be showing.

One thing that a lot of comments here mention is the ML and how he seemed to act ridiculous as a doctor etc. Well I found him ridiculous too but I liked it, personally I've never seen him act like that before and I thought it was good to see this side of him as an actor, rather than the serious poker face heartthrob closeups of handsome K actors these days.

And lastly, I liked the show's take on mental health, even though I didn't like that it relied so much on meds as the solution.

RomCom at its Best!
hyungsikangels15 February 2024
Depression and Burnout is tackled in a serious yet healing way. Everything about it has been great - the script, the acting, the OSTs, the cinematography. The chemistry between Shinye and Hyungsik is just amazing as well as the chemistry of Shinye with her mom, brother and her bestfriend I can't wait how their story of recovering from the slump and their love story unfolds. My favorite is Episode 3 - I had to watch it 3 times. The love story of the second leads and how they will support the main leads is also something to look forward too - so far their interaction has been cute and gives off the Crash Course in Romance vibe.

All the best to Dr Slump cast and teams especially to our dearest Hyungsik. Fighting! 💪

Happy light and easy but
skwek12 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
2 great stars with lovable characters It's cheerful happy But 16 episodes is too long and barely supported by a story line that's pretty weak

One can sense they keep trying to find ways to make it 16 when 10 or 12 is about right Script not too unique pretty flat repetitive In a nutshell It's like taking a love cruise to a resort 1000 km away but it keeps circling around sometimes in dull weather Compliments to the 2 Parks who tried their best to pull it thru.

Supporting staff are so so No one stood out There should had been a fee twists to the plot plus some songs and dance from Park Hung Sik would had helped Anyway.

LOVE IT!!!!!!
bdgzszz9 March 2024
Didn't expect that this series would be so good!!!! It tackles mental health, depression, which are a sensitive topic to some especially here in our country. Getting checked by a psychiatrist doesn't mean that you are crazy.

Park ShinHye and Park Hyung Sik's chemistry is unexpected. But I feel giddy every time they have their "moment". You can feel their emotions and feelings through their gaze and they don't need to speak to tell what they are feeling. They are both really good artists.

Recommending this series to everyone! My husband who is not so with kdramas liked it also! We watched 8 episodes in 1 sitting! Hehe. We were so hooked!

An Implausibly Slow Romance
kgenereux-75-53357619 February 2024
I had 9 stars worth of interest in Dr. Slump until this weekend, when episodes 7 & 8 were aired by Netflix USA. Ouch. The Romance vector is implausibly slow in that the female lead had already confessed to "quasi-romantically liking" "Dr. Rooftop" (they've held hands on a windswept beach and had a multitude of emotional confessions) yet in episode 8 she is suddenly bizarrely retro-ambivalent. Seriously, she's pushing 30, yet she seems to equate handholding to sexual intimacy. (Like she's spent the last 20 years ain a convent.) Also whenever any of the female actors get drunk, which happens way too often in eps. 7 and 8, they often become outrageously physically abusive to male characters. I find those drunken party scenes downright strange, and the level of acting in them falls between unconvincing and atrocious.

Shin Hye eye candy... rest is vanilla
patricia-knightley4 March 2024
Enjoyable yes... swoon worthy yes... original, clever and limited cringe screenplay... no... some segments are just too cheesy... even for KDrama standards... they just ran out of screenplay ideas on this one.

But Shin Hye has never looked lovelier and it's hard not to stare at her eyes and that gorgeous hair.

I buy into the chemistry as well as the topic of PTSD and depression and it's covered sincerely and authentically for the most part.

Other areas of the story such as getting together, ripped apart, getting together, ripped apart again can either be enjoyed or found to be very annoying so the ride YMMV.

True to it's title, second half is a slump
unrivaledraj18 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the show from the beginning. But it was a hit and a miss overall. I loved the FL, her character was quite good and the part was played well by her, like she always does. I disliked how ML was portrayed as a character, writer botched that up, I have seen the actor doing well in his previous shows that I have seen. But here he acted way too obnoxiously a lot of times, especially whenever he had to act silly/cute/immature, he overreacted a lot, and such scenes of him take a large part of the show. And most of the times his makeup done was too flaky and made him look weird, it drew my attention to his makeup, which shouldn't happen.

Still the first half was good, two broken people, in their own miseries, find happiness and joy in each other, which was good to see, the main story of the ML patient's table death, that was also okay, although very predictable.

But it gets resolved around mid of the show, and thus the second half starts getting dull, as lot of scenes and dialogues keep on repeating throughout the show.

With the content and story arc and character development, this should have been a 10-12 episode show. Also I disliked how ML ptsd was handled, like we see sessions of FL curing her depression, not once ML session was shown, him working on his ptsd issues, just one scene where FL shows up in his surgery and bam his ptsd is cured. I get the dramatic gesture, but this doesn't suit the tone of the show at all, where so much footage and theme and monologue is dedicated to people in depression and other mental health issues. This was done very very poorly. He also had insomnia because of same anxiety and ptsd, and he has suffered that from last 15 years, but even that isn't addressed properly, nor shown that how he is handling that.

A lot of issues for me in the way male leads character was written, because there was so much they missed or didn't consider it important enough to address.

Also, though the chemistry between leads was okay, but it wasn't what it should have been, felt like there was a severe lack of intimacy between them at times. Again, not the fault of actors, because there were like 2-3 kissing scenes, and they really did good there, passion was visible, writers and director should have used that.

I had such hopes from this show, as I have loved both the lead actors from their previous shows, but the writing here failed otherwise what could have been one of the best kdramas this year. I wouldn't recommend this show.

Mom's chicken noodle soup on a cold winter day
kaerolyn21 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This drama is like your mom's tasty chicken noodle soup on a cold winter day, especially when you're feeling a bit under the weather- it gives you a sense of comfort and peace. It's a nice blend of a healing drama with romance and comedy. Anyone struggling in life can relate to these characters who meet at the worse point in their lives. They started out as very competitive rivals in school and that competitive streak stays with them but they find out that they understand each other in ways no one else can. They go from school rivals, to administratively placed together classmates, to friends, to lovers and each transition takes time but seems earned.

They really explore depression and how hard it can be for supportive families to know what to do to help. The FL's mom in particularly goes from denial to cringeworthy encouragement to more nuanced comfort. She is the heart of the show.

Even side characters get their own arc and growth. There is no stalker murder mystery shoehorned in, but there is a medical accident which is the inciting event for the precipitous fall of the ML, but you learn that he was hiding a lot of pain behind a friendly smiling demeanor and letting people walk over him. There is no messy love triangle and the 2nd lead couple who are both divorced with kids have a cute 2nd change at romance story that take a while to bloom.

Fair warning that there is a lot of drinking particularly in the beginning when the OTP are both down and out and struggling/sad/depressed and this couples after they get together tend to act all cutsie when they're alone (but we get to watch them which some viewers may hate).

Cute simple boring
Infycd_24 March 2024
Simple cute story but really too boring after few episodes. They could have ended in 10 episodes. Most of kdramas had this problem. Why they always think 16 episode is mandatory???

I started this drama bcz of both leads. They both were amazing in other dramas but in this perticular drama they are really not much impressive. I feel something is missing. Mostly the direction is not good or their character is not written well I think.

One thing I liked here the way they confessed their feelings for each other. Very simple normal way like adults. That one was really nice.

Instead of making romcom they could have turn this drama in to melodramatic, silence romance drama that would be amazing bcz the story is matching with that genre.

i love this drama♥
hayaalgeva20 March 2024
I really liked the drama, let's start with the perfect casting of the cast, it seems that Park Hyung Shik just played his real life (you can see in fan meetings and interviews that this is his mindset) seriousness and maturity alongside childishness (they say that in every mature person, there is also a little child). The drama deals with healing and recovery, competition for achievements and success alongside failure and disappointment. Friendship, and support. Insights that you get after crises (financial and mental), satisfaction in the face of fulfillment... a race for achievements in life where along the way you forget to enjoy the small things (sunset, going for a walk, enjoying nature from the blossoms and even eating ice cream) and the mental price that you pay because of the race for life. It is true that there are some childish scenes (not compatible with the model of a doctor) but they fit so well against the very sensitive subject of mental exhaustion and depression. I totally recommend watching the drama and examining it in depth and not superficially.

Strong points
newkrejados10 April 2024
... But not too many. It seems this show wants to do everything. Don't get me wrong, lots of KDramas manage to pull that off. Just not this one.

The mental health angle is great, but underdone. The revenge twist is decent, but not fleshed out. The characters have practically no backstory, even the two leads. The romance is tepid, at best.

The PHS - PSH pairing just doesn't work. I've seen PSH in other shows; she always gives the same, narrow-range, wooden performance. There's only so much PHS can do to coax anything out of his co-lead; she just doesn't seem responsive.

On the other hand, it seems PHS has come into his own. This probably wasn't the best vehicle for him to prove that. Or maybe its two-dimensional backdrop gave him the needed room to shine. Whatever the reason, there's no doubting his emotional range or physical comedy skills.

AMAZING KDRAMA
ajkskull21 March 2024
I personally don't understand about people who called this drama boring, dragging, or how this should be less episodes. It is called doctor Slump which means it is about people who had been in their lowest point in their life that happens to be doctors, rather than medical drama (like dr romantic or such). I'm really get about the side arc (Jeongwoo malpractice arc or Min Kyungmin arc) but all that side arc only shows that regardless of their misery, it really pain for the main characters and really need time to heal themselves. I appreciate that the writers can maintain the theme of health consistently because it is really ews.

Good Enough
PennyReviews15 April 2024
Korean Drama '' Doctor Slump '' is a slice of life melodrama with some medical drama hints.

The drama has a healing story, with the romance being well paced and starting from academic rivals, to friends, to lovers, which shifted the story from the love story to the difficulties the characters had to face and overcome. Hence, the slow pace helped the mood of the drama a lot.

Unfortunately, the second half of the drama felt more like a filler. There were only a few things left to be resolved and a few new things to be added to the story. At this point, the side couple was the one who kept things interesting and offered a lot of adorable moments.

Finally, the performances were all enjoyable by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, six out of ten.

JUST GREAT
lilionen28 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 1 was indeed a banger, setting the stage for what promises to be an engaging and emotionally charged series. Park Shin Hye's performance was nothing short of exceptional, and her portrayal of the character's emotions added a layer of authenticity to the narrative. It's refreshing to see a storyline that addresses the subtleties of mental health, especially the realistic portrayal of not immediately recognizing the signs of exhaustion and depression.

Park Hyung Sik's comedic timing is impeccable, bringing a delightful and lighthearted touch to the series. His character, coupled with Park Shin Hye's, creates a dynamic and compelling on-screen chemistry that keeps viewers eagerly anticipating each episode. The balance between the serious undertones of mental health exploration and the humor injected by the characters is a testament to the show's well-crafted storytelling.

At least 5 episodes too long.
mel-4371529 April 2024
Started off ok - a bit cliché-ridden but good performances by main cast and side players. Credibility straining as time went in and it had really fun out of plot by episode 8.

Many of the flashbacks served no purpose and the supporting actors live story was actually more interesting than that if the main characters.

Notable tropes include: several wrist grabs, at least two accidental swoons, several wake-ups in the wrong place after drinking, a premature death of a parent, a hospital stay with an unidentifiable IV drip and numerous occasions of going out to eat after the characters have just eaten

Nice directing and camera work certainly helped move this along but, if you're after a good drama with a well-written plot then look elsewhere.

Fun, but why is everyone drunk all the time
xykatexy9 March 2024
I am now on the twelfth episode. The series is fun, but honestly very overrated because the main cast is super popular. Otherwise, I don't think there is much that makes this series special. The main couple is alright, I don't think they have that much chemistry. However, I really liked the way they comfort eachother and are helping one another with mental health.

Both characters suffer from mental health disorders, and I find the portrayal of mental health issues to be somewhat a trend in nowadays' kdramas. I especially like that this one takes on the topic of overachieving and forgetting to live in the character of Haneul (even if the way they present this is over the top- the girl eating instant coffee powder to not have to use the restroom is ridiculous).

The main couple is fun, and so is the side couple. It's an excellent comfort series, but there is not much to write home about.

One thing though: heavy drinking is shown in every episode. Every single one. Not that I'm against drinking, but the fact that every single character has gotten blackout drunk at least once is kind of concerning. Not sure if this represents Korean society or what, but it's a bit much.

Good binge watch
Rose007lily16 March 2024
First of all, the male lead is absolutely adorable and handsome ( giving vibes like Min Min of strong girl bong so.... ). He is having emotional side too, which is according to the storyline.

The female lead is good, she played the character well. But her off screen energy is addictive ( I saw some reel on Instagram and she looks so excited off screen), her character is actually depressed, so it makes sense that she acts a little low. This drama marked her best kiss scene, we all know this haha.

I feel like both leads nailed the role of high schoolers, it was a burst of cheerfulness and comedy.

The second lead couple is super adorable too, I actually found their story quite interesting in the last few episodes.

The younger brother of female lead is funny and innocent. Whole cast did a great job.

The cinematography is perfect. Bgm is great. The shifts between past and present are flawlessly executed. Overall, it's a great drama which will give you rom com & melodrama vibes.

best ever healing drama
dheerajdhooper18 March 2024
After so long i really laughed while watching a series. Best ever healing drama. There is a lots of things you can get from this series. After falling into a slump how two people comforts each other. Two nemesis became friends then lovers. No boring episodes. Each characters got equal time space. It also talks about family, friends. I laughed and cried also while watching this. Kudos to the writers, actors specially Park hyung sik whose acting was mind blowing and also Park shin hye who perfectly slayed in this character. OF COURSE PARK PARK COUPLE CHEMISTRY. Lastly "We learned to be in pain for a moment and to cherish memories for awhile. In the end, we were able to escape our slumps."- Yeo Jeong Woo.
