Pentazocine, the drug Dr. Boggs was given, is a type of opioid analgesic, however it differs from most opioids in its effects. Most opioids (morphine, oxycodone, heroin, fentanyl) only activate the mu-opioid receptors, pentazocine activates both the mu and k-opioid receptors. Activation of the mu-opioid receptor is what causes the analgesic and euphoric effects that opioids have, activation of the k-opioid receptor also has analgesic effects but can also cause dysphoria and hallucinations. So while most opioids don't cause hallucinations certain k-opioid agonists like pentazocine can.

Goofs
The baby shown is clearly not a newborn, for one it is way too clean, a newborn is going to have dried amniotic fluid and blood on its skin, even after the quick wipe down the nurse gives it.
