Sex & Nudity

  • A man is seen having passionate sex with his girlfriend. We don't see anything from the waist up.
  • Art and paintings contain what looks like people having sex, though this isnt graphic.
  • A woman is tied up and raped by multiple men
  • There are several strong sex scenes with caressing and kissing and moaning throughout, sometimes with full nudity, both male and female. The most explicit scenes are in season one, but the sexual content dies down afterwards.
  • After that naked man tortured in iron bar there is a scene showing dozens of fully nude women in a bed while a man reads a magazine
  • Characters have sex in bed and standing up with moaning and thrusting; backsides and breasts visible. Infidelity, discussion of body parts and sexual techniques. Many references to prostitutes; women are frequently seen as trophies accompanying success.

Violence & Gore

  • A politician is brutally shot in the back seat of a car by a machine gun.
  • A group of people are executed by machine gun fire. Their bodies fall into a ditch.
  • Bombings occur very frequently, especially car bombings, and lots of people get killed. The most intense scenes are when a man opens a briefcase on a plane that contains a bomb, and kills 107 innocent people, and another is when an explosion unexpectedly occurs at a wedding, and lots of innocent people are injured and killed. A shopping center is bombed and lots of children die
  • Very frequent and unexpected violence throughout.
  • A man is tied up to several motorcycles limb from limb, his whole body is then ripped apart as they drive off. A man covered in blood cries out for them to stop as he watches.
  • A drug dealer is brutally tortured to death for not giving information. He is beaten while strapped to a chair and then shot repeatedly while he's dead. His whole face is covered in bruises and swollen cuts. All of this is committed by a corrupt police officer.
  • Two men are decapitated with chainsaws offscreen, lots of blood sprays onto the killers face. Very gruesome and disturbing.
  • Two men are brutally beaten to death. One man is beaten with a pool cue, and another man is beaten to death by a group of men, the killer is covered in blood afterwards along with one of the other men. Later the killers bring the bloodied and dismembered body parts into a furnace to burn their remains.
  • A man opens up a fridge, it is full of chopped off body parts: heads, arms and legs. The entire inside of the fridge is covered in blood.
  • Many murders, mostly shootings. Violence occurs suddenly, but there is an overarching feeling of menace and potential violence at any time. Point-blank shootings with spurting blood and gore; dead bodies shown at length. Real news footage of dead bodies; dead bodies in piles and rows in a morgue. A dog is shot unexpectedly in a gruesome scene; the realistic-looking body of the dog is shown for long moments. A pregnant drug mule dies along with her baby when swallowed a cocaine packet leaks.
  • Many scenes depict realistic and pervasive shootings with blood and wounds being shown. Many of these shootings are treated with little regard for the victims, further emphasizing the intensity of the scene.
  • Scenes of bloody dead bodies throughout.
  • Multiple execution and torture scenes. These include water boarding, being choked in plastic bags, beatings, humiliation, and many blunt executions by way of gunshot.

Profanity

  • The word "fuck" is said frequently throughout the series in both English and Spanish along with several other profanities such as "shit", "damn", "hell", "bitch", "son of a bitch", "fag", "ass", "asshole", "pussy", "bastard" and "whore".
  • "Cocksucker" is said once in English.
  • Characters make lots of sexual jokes
  • Due to south American slang the word "marica" ("faggot") is said a lot throughout the series
  • Frequent cursing, in Spanish and English, with many four-letter words unbleeped. Characters are called "faggot" and worse. Ethnic and racial slurs frequent.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The main theme of the show is the war on drugs with the DEA, and big time drug lords such as Pablo Escobar.
  • A lot of scenes take place in cocaine labs out in the jungle, and we see how the cocaine gets cooked and processed. Theses scenes are shown in great detail
  • The drug use isn't as bad as shows like The Wire, and Breaking Bad. There isn't any meth cooking, just some moderate cocaine cooking scenes
  • Only one moderate scene of coacaine cooking, other than that, it's just drugs being sold and rarely used.
  • Most mentioned drug is cocaine because of series is about Pablo Escobar.
  • The entire crux of this drama is the drug trade. We see the intricacies of the cocaine trade from its step-by-step production to its transport hidden in vehicles to its consumption. Many characters snort cocaine, smoke marijuana, and drink alcohol on-screen. Cocaine in baggies and wrapped packages ubiquitous. We see drug mules in action, including pregnant women who swallow cocaine packages to get over the American border (one is sickened and dies, along with her baby).
  • Drinking and smoking throughout every episode.
  • Use of both marijuana and cocaine is shown frequently
  • People dying of cocaine overdose is shown.
  • Pablo Escobar and his men smoke pot constantly.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This show is very intense and contains lots of brutal violence.
  • There are hundreds of deaths throughout each season.
  • Contains Real-life Images of wounded soldiers and men. The entire show is filled with reference to the real world.
  • Many of the drug lords portrayed in this show engage in lots of sadistic behavior.
  • Many scenes of people being killed in bombings including women and children
  • This show does not shy away from the brutality of the violence in the drug dealing world.

Violence & Gore

  • The DEA and Pablo Escobar get into an intense shootout, two police officers are shot in the head with blood spattering onto the wall. Pablo's bodyguard is graphically gunned down by a sniper. Pablo is shot twice in the stomach, blood sprays each time. Then he is shot in the head, lots of blood spurts out and we see the graphic bullet wound.
