Killer Confessions

Richard Cottingham is known as the torso killer for a couple of his kills at a New York City hotel in the late 70s. Two hookers were found with their heads missing. Richie had cut them clean off and carried them out and they have never been found.

Robert Anzilotti is the Bergen County, New Jersey detective who spent years interviewing the serial killer as the two played cat and mouse. The good cop was relentless in his quest to close numerous homicides.

The tapes are the most interesting aspect of the documentary, but, as usual, we get too much repetition. The slow motion reenactments are silly and the same shrink seems to be interviewed on every crime show. She states her usual "no s*** Shirlock" opinions throughout the overlong two part series. The programs length could have been cut in half.

Cottingham may be responsible for one hundred murders but we will never know as it is all just conjecture. An author is referenced and a book by Peter Vronsky is a good one for those seeking more details on the killer.

Poorly done and a bit of grandstanding.

Warning: Spoilers
Here we have a doc about a cop attempting to get prior confessions out of an inmate serving multiple life sentences. It takes him 6 years to get his first, then another 4 to get another one. He has a docket of 12. Something should click in this detective's head that he's not the best at interrogation.

Whatever you're doing, perhaps change it up or something. The crime details and reenactments are unnecessary and this is mostly a doc on how this detective pursued the inmate for 18 years spanning hundreds of interview hours. He cleared 4 cases out of the 12 if I recall correctly.

Although I applaud the determination it mostly is a waste of his time and the departments resources. They have enough evidence to be reasonably sure that this is indeed the killer, a complete confession doesn't really amount to much really, just closes a case where the inmate is the main suspect.

The part which really gets me upset is that another department with DNA evidence closed 3 or 4 cases in a few years, and he cooperated with them. Unbelievable dude. This detective is mostly to blame for his own stubbornness to keep going back and "playing the cat and mouse" game he is so eager to tell us.

At the end I wish he would have spent that time on other cases which didn't have such an obvious suspect. He says that there could be over 100 victims. Perhaps you should have been digging into those ones instead of trying to lock down 12 easy cases with similar case qualities.

Very frustrating. This guy is not a hero. Probably cost the taxpayers tons with his overtime. Find a better use of your time.
