For any revolution, two things are a must - Gulab Jamun and Gol Gol Gappas.
chand-suhas2 July 2023
This sweet little film highlights the misogyny, stopping the women in taking part in Baraat of their own kin and even doesn't allow woman to eat meat. The educated daughter-in-law Rani (Sonam Bajwa) revolts against this oppression and convinces women in her village to fight for their right to attend the wedding. Her soft spoken husband Bagga supports her unconditionally. How Rani and her gang of women, trick the misogynistic men to earn their right forms rest of the story.

The story is set in the 90s and the overdose of misogyny which is played for laughs as well as to evoke melodrama might not appeal to everyone. But the intentions are honest and the treatment is not slapstick. Sonam Bajwa owns the character and carried the film with aplomb. Films like these, it is mandatory to have Nirmal Rishi as the grandmother and know for sure that she will provide the best of the entertaining scenes. Here the supporting cast is that good and Tania too with her love for gulab jamun, bring in the laughter.

The ending however felt abrupt with that song though it was good seeing all those women celebrate, taking their right and the voice over during the end credits brought back the humour. Guess I expected the men to be confronted and then make them as just witnesses to the women's celebration. This is still a good watch and I will definitely recommend it.

A giggling Punjabi Watch
acroking8718 August 2023
Godday Godday Chaa presents a fun filled picture of a relatively unknown social issue from the yesteryears of Punjab. The movie is high on energy (like most Punjabi movies are) and has some peppy and melodious dance numbers too. Sonam Bajwa impresses as the pivotal protagonist to this comic representation of the challenges most women faced in the past in remote rural subsections of Punjab and their fight towards freedom from these unwarranted restrictions. Most supporting cast and the male leads were pretty convincing in their roles and the humor was well timed. The lines were well written. The casting was pretty apt and the picture of a typical Punjabi conservative Pind (village) is painted brilliantly. Tania who plays thr younger sister Nikko is a glam doll to watch and equally talented. Overall Godday Godday Chaa is one of those rare advocates of women's rights that does it without overdoing it, loathing feminism in any way, male bashing or spreading any form of toxicity. In fact for most parts, it's a pretty refreshing watch. You feel like getting up and tapping your feet to the Gidda towards the climax. I give it a 6.8/10.

Good movie but...
istcarsenal3 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It has great laughter moments and comic situations, which is rare in punjabi movies as they mostly rely on punch lines and comic timing by the actors but situational comedy was very likeable and refreshing.

The only issue I have is the domestic violence. It was done with comedy sound effects in the background on several occasions and didn't show any consequences for the culprits beating thier wives other than women enjoying delicious foods on a wedding. Really?

I can't digest that.

Charecter work was fine. Sohi, Nirmal Rishi, Rupinder Rupi, are fantastic charecter artists. Sonam and taniya did justice to thier roles as well.

I'll say it again - GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW.

Movies like these are rare these days. Acting , direction , music , production - the movie has excelled in every facet.

Sonam becomes a different person in each movie - some for this one. Beauty inside out with immense talent!

Tania is a cutie who entices the audience and holds their attention in every scene she is.

Gitaz and Gurjazz have given significance to their roles in the most honest way and deserve accolades at the same time.

Nirmal Rishi is a lioness . She is the essence is each movie she does ! Nobody can replace her.

All the supporting actors have played their parts equally well.

This is one of the Bestest movie, I had ever seen. Strong story msg. , Traditional , family movie. Acting is like endless ( sirra ). Everyone played his role very well. Story line was fabulous. In 1990 , women's were not allowed in any marriage . How they can go to marrige and what will be the impact on upcoming weddings .

In Punjabi :Bahut sohni movie si. Jma siraa movie c. Pinta ( gurjazz ) did his second movie and I feel he is very old character. Sonam bajwa , Nikko , gitaz and specially co actors 4 old age women's and men played their role very well. Pinta sohna jacda si vaise Nikko naal 😂💐

Laughing riot
majgotra16 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Thoroughly enjoyed the movie with family. Genuine laughs and excellent comic timings from almost all female actresses. Couldn't believe that it was such a big deal for women to accompany men for baraats back in 90s. Asked my dad to confirm and he said yes it was kind of frowned upon. Movie did justice to the premise and packaged it as a funny movie while addressing the social issue at the same time. I hope such movies get audience in theatres so that producers are encouraged to make more such movies. Now rom thia point onwards I'm writing just to reach the review character limit somehow so that I can submit this.

Godday Godday Chaa: A Heartfelt Journey into Punjabi Traditions
rim_07173 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Godday Godday Chaa is a touching Punjabi movie that delves into the intriguing cultural tradition prevailing in Punjab, where women are restricted from accompanying men to weddings and engaging in significant customs. The film, although it may not possess the intense thrills commonly seen in other Punjabi movies, compensates with its emphasis on cultural nuances and societal norms.

The storyline unfolds at a leisurely pace, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the characters' lives and comprehend the intricacies of the traditional practices portrayed. Amidst the deliberate pacing, the movie weaves moments of genuine humor, adding a delightful touch to the narrative.

At the center of the film, Sonam Bajwa shines in her lead role, delivering a remarkable performance that captivates viewers with her talent and versatility. Her portrayal of the character breathes life into the story, making it relatable and emotionally resonant. Furthermore, Sonam Bajwa's exceptional dance sequences, showcasing typical Punjabi dance moves, add a sense of authenticity and cultural richness to the film.

While Godday Godday Chaa may not be adorned with extravagant sets or extravagant plot twists, its simplicity serves as its strength, grounding the story in the reality of the societal norms it aims to portray. The movie's subtle and authentic charm makes it a compelling and worthwhile watch for those seeking to understand the cultural intricacies and traditions of Punjab.

In conclusion, Godday Godday Chaa may not be an adrenaline-pumping, action-packed Punjabi movie, but it offers a heartwarming and enlightening experience through its portrayal of traditional practices. Sonam Bajwa's outstanding lead performance and captivating dance sequences are highlights that make this film a genuine depiction of Punjabi culture and a movie that merits a one-time watch to appreciate its unique charm and meaningful storytelling.

Amazing & Superb Movie Very Comedy Very Interesting
shiwekjindalzcute1 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Superb movie Love From Jindalz Sk & family members. Very good, nice, amazing, comedy movie. Some scenes got emotional. All over movie is very interesting. All the Movie is Full of Entertainment.. Specially Thanks to Director.. The work of every actor is speachless. While the comedy makes for many rib-tickling moments and the dialogues are witty and punchy, the film poignantly brings forth the plight of women as silent sufferers, and criticises the society that condones patriarchal violence. Although the film is over-dramatised in parts, the issue is one that deserves attention. Love & Delight.

Misogynist Punjabis
harkiratratol20 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This shows punjabis are misogynist and are proud of it. Supressing them and beating their wives and calling it a comedy? I felt sick watching it.

Another dialogue"Teevin te jutti jhaarr ke rakhni paindi aa" (A woman and shoes are to be kept dusted off, means beaten regularly), what are we showing to the world under the name of punjabi culture?? Although the movie meant to show women fighting against these misogynistic traits, but I feel we punjabis were never supressing women to this level, like beating them in front of others?

Please get some better topics to make movies , this was definitely not either comedy, nor an art drama for awareness, it was just a poor try to make people laugh around a sick theme.
