What?? Left Open For Another Season??
PalmBeachG5 March 2023
I was really enjoying this drama UNTIL episode 12! I didn't actually realize it was finished, and kept coming back waiting for episode 13. For some reason I had 99% English translation and I guess I missed a sentence or something at the end and when I realized that was it I was so disappointed. I thought that the ML was going to counseling, and the babysitting he mentioned of his niece and nephew was part of the treatment to get over his fear of having children and that the statement they both made at the end in their minds left it open for them eventually. My hope is that it was left deliberately like this to make room for another season.....

If they add a season, I will return here and give it more stars later.

Episodes 1-8 ONLY
concealedidentity23 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
[Spoilers...obviously] Although I've only seen episodes 1-8, I'm familiar with the idea that the drama has a sad ending, and said endings don't deter me. I usually enjoy them if they're done well. That being said, this review has nothing to do with the ending or eps 9-12.

Originally I loved the show, I binged eps 1-5 when I had work the next day and ended up with only two hours of sleep (no regrets). However, to my dismay, these were the best and last good episodes. Eps 7 & 8 were major turn offs and I went from loving one of the leads to rolling my eyes every single time they were on screen. This reaction mostly stems from me as an individual who's seen too many crime and law films/shows and is madly in love with them. The unrealistic and illogical actions of some of these characters during these serious cases enraged me to the point where I couldn't do another episode. I always believe there's a time and place for everything and I hated the actions of one of the leads. If you've seen the drama you'll guess it by now that I'm referring to our beloved female lead, Oh Hara.

I understand she was going through a traumatic experience given the close relationship she has with her parents, however, that's when her character started making less sense.

First, she dumped a case on her ex-husband, a simple consultation turned assault and premeditated murder case (though to be fair, this was more of the ex's doing, not hers).

Then she dumps her problems with her boyfriend on the ex while he was in the middle of working with a deadline. Not only was he trying to be polite by letting her rant, she blows up on him when he wasn't seemingly listening to her. When the boyfriend suggests breaking up, she texts the ex claiming she's broken it off (she took credit for it - according to the subtitles).

Seeing that he was stressed day and night, she lends him NO, zero, nada, NO hands or ears whatsoever. Instead, she cooks up this idea of suing her father's mistress for damages under her mom's name which she evidently tried to dump on the ex (again) which he refuses. In doing so, she went back on her words about taking care of it herself and also ignored her mother's wishes to leave it alone.

When she finally gets the courage to admit she still has feelings for the ex, she goes on this expedition to confess to him 10 times and if he rejects her all 10 times, she'll do her best to get over him. This could be cute if I was 13-18 years old, but the way she went about this interrupted his work on a daily and nightly. At this point, I truly believed it justifiable for him to go to the extreme of faking an affair to divorce her. If their roles were reversed, no one would think this was cute.

Sitting on it, the only problem in her life is her dishonesty, otherwise, she's well off, has a great relationship with her parents, is gorgeous, has stable and successful careers on and off screen, is known in the legal world as 'the goddess of litigation', has an ex-husband who doesn't despise her and pays alimony without fail, has a sweet boyfriend who's madly in love with her whose mother openly accepted her despite their awkward meetings, and a bestie who will side with her no matter what. Her life couldn't be that bad if she would just not take every single thing personally and be honest.

All said, her being a flawed main character wasn't my pet peeve, it was how UNbusy the office was. One of the CEOs rarely does work, and one of the desk people also doesn't do much. And although I understand that drinking is a huge part of their culture, I swear these characters were getting wasted every other night and coming to work just fine the next day.

In sum, if you're looking for a good legal drama that doesn't undermine the legal aspects, this one isn't for you. But if you're looking for some romance and cute bickering between lawyers, you'll find this one a worthwhile watch.

Surprisingly involving and modern look at divorce
phd_travel1 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This series is not the usual fluffy romance comedy series. It's quite modern and realistic and deals with problems that divorced people face before and during and after divorce. It's clever when blending the issues of in the divorces they handle in with the personal lives of the divorce attorneys.

Kang So Ra is feisty but still likable. Sympathetic character. She is very beautiful and the camera often shows her long legs. Jang Seung Jo plays her ex husband. Their relationship is interesting and the reasons they weren't compatible are quite real - the little things and the big one. DINK vs having kids. An issue that many couples face one wants kids and the other doesn't. It's too bad the writer couldn't think of a solution for them so the end is realistic but disappointing.

I was involved so it is worth a watch.

Surprises are around the corner
KdramaInStudio28 February 2023
My review is very positive. In fact, I haven't seen a KDrama lately where there are so unexpected turns - and some of them funny, and some hit home. If your in law or have been divorced you can relate to this series. First, the laws around divorce are so different American vs. Korean; how the Lawyers address their clients on the moral issue at hand, what constitutes the right for divorce and alimony. Second, the couples in this series are perfectly matched, each dealing with their own past and set of beliefs which ultimately determines their future with someone.

Divorce is not selective and can happen to anyone at anytime for a multitude of reasons. There's various scenarios played out and it never gets dull with people and their emotions in times of stress. The families portrayed are victims as well because of the dissolution or unmet promises from unfaithful partners.

Watching this show, I am reminded that it's hard work to have a career plus dating, getting married, having a baby, or getting divorced and is a lot of emotional stress.

Very well done. Worth to watch if your interested in the theme.

Don't waste your time like I did unless!!

If the director and writer left open for a season 2 then I get what the director intended. If Season 2 doesn't occur then this ending is going to be one of the worse I have seen in a K drama. The holes in the ending are gaping. I am believing this is how they intentionally ended it though with artistic impression. If true the director and writer need to never work in this field again. The main actors are actually pretty good and not to blame for what happened. The studio should of thrown this one in the trash and never put the show on any platform or at least fired the director and writer to fix the incomplete mess. The director and the writer might be nice or even great people, but this is a business where the customer expects a conclusion and not a thinking process of creating your own ending. Using a title as a way to escape the ending was a shame. I am going to create my own ending right now. They were doing a good old fashioned western 10 step and draw competition at the end. Whoever has the fastest trigger wins. Except one character decides to do 9 steps and wins because they knew they had no chance. He or she goes down for the count and the show is over. I would of accepted the ending like that even though no one would be happy, but at least some kind of conclusion. To finish off this review a second season is very very very rare for Korean shows even if the ratings are high. They don't follow the normal USA way of doing shows of high ratings gets a renewal.

Not Good Enough
PennyReviews23 March 2023
Korean Drama " Strangers Again " is a law romantic drama.

The series embends the divorce-family cases nicely with the main plot, though some of them weren't that interesting and got tiring to follow. The main plot, on the other hand, had some originality and the interactions of the two main leads were entertaining, as the couple's dynamics were spot on. The second couple was enjoyable as well.

However, the romance was boring and got into circles of dead end choices. The tropes that were used were boring and the drama ended up with a messy pace. The conclusion, at least, was more original compared to the rest of the love story.

The performances, finally, were all great by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, three out of ten.
