Amusing horror/action comedy
Woodyanders23 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Bumbling police officer Rod Davis (likable James Balsamo) and his no-nonsense partner Harry Chu (the equally engaging Jeff Kim) must fight both a nefarious drug cartel and an army of lethal aquatic mutants in order to save Rod's sister Roxanne (a winningly perky portrayal by Shannon Mann) after she gets abducted by said cartel.

Writer/director Balsamo relates the enjoyably wacky story at a steady pace and maintains an amiable off the wall tone throughout while delivering a satisfying smattering of outrageous gore and tasty gratuitous female nudity. Balsamo and Kim display a strong and appealing chemistry in the leads. Veteran character actor Edward X. Young has a field day as deranged mad scientist Professor Benjamin Jackal. Moreover, there are cool cameos from such familiar cult cinema faces as Irwin Keyes, Tony Todd, Tuesday Knight, Darian Caine, Debbie Rochon (very funny as a loopy gypsy psychic), Jason Mewes, Jennifer Banko, Joel M. Reed, Jasmine St. Claire, Donald Farmer, Kevin Van Hentenryck, John Carl Buechler, and Jake "The Snake" Roberts. However, at over two hours this movie does drag a bit in spots. That criticism aside, this one overall rates as an absolute hoot.
