Nice

What genuinely distinguishes Dear Jassi Movie is its inspiring portrayal of the protagonist. Jassi is not your usual heroine; she defies social rules and breaks away from expectations. Hers is a self-discovery journey as she learns to embrace her own self and stand up for what she believes in. This representation is both refreshing and encouraging, challenging the audience to challenge the established quo and chart their own course. In Dear Jassi Movie, the supporting characters are similarly well-developed. Their interactions with Jassi add another dimension of emotional complication to the plot.

A Mother's Love - just see it

If you're expecting to see the beauty of India (Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh) as included in Tarsem's The Fall, this film is not for you.

This is India for real, a glimpse into the way India works, both good and bad, for the most populous country in Earth, with so many surviving on a modest income.

It's an interesting tale, really well cast, well shot and really well told. It doesn't feel like 2 hours 12 minutes. The fact that this is a true story, (actually, what happened to him is even worse) and it's still happening is disturbing. The use of cow tranquilizer is amusing and actually happened.

Definitely worth seeing and thank you to Tarsem for being bold enough to call it out by telling this story.

Dear Jassi Movie depicts the subtleties of Indian culture and traditions wonderfully. It celebrates the culture's brightness and complexity while also diving into the issues that the younger generation faces. It finds a fine mix between comedic moments and serious social themes. This combination results in a well-rounded film that appeals to a wide spectrum of audiences and inspires crucial discussions. Dear Jassi Movie's direction is commendable, as the filmmaker skilfully ties together many narrative lines. The rhythm is well-balanced, with opportunities for meditation and introspection. Dear Jassi Movie's screenplay is exceptionally well-crafted, with a wonderful blend of drama, romance, and humor.

The wonderful soundtrack in Dear Jassi Movie is one of its distinguishing features. The soundtrack is soulful, with each song leaving an indelible impression. The songs match the text brilliantly, adding to the emotional depth of the moments. The lyrics are passionate and relate to the characters' trials and successes. The songs lingered in my head for days after I saw the movie, reminding me of the profound influence they had on the overall experience. Throughout the film, the photography in Dear Jassi Movie is just captivating. It's a great visual treat that adds a new level of dimension to the story.

From fun filled laughter to sobbing tears- what a ride!

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie at the TIFF festival. Mithu and Jassi's love towards each other was so pure. There is no way we can judge how pure is love, if its true love.

On the other side, what has been truly depicted in this movie is Jassi's family total disagreement with her liking a guy from a "lower" caste. While the story is from 1990s, this is very much prevalent today as well. Most Panjabi people choose to marry within their caste. If its an upper Panjabi caste, they will never ever choose to marry someone from a lower caste. And the fun part, is the families and everyone is more concerned about "what others will say". The same has been shown in this movie many times. It is absolutely out of total helplessness that these families have no choice but to condemn falling in love. This depicts society's failure as a whole.

And if you look more closely, it is all men...

A masterful rendition of story that needs to be told
wxgfrxbck18 February 2024
Dear Jassi crept up on me. I was invited to a movie at the SB film festival without any idea what I was going to see. It starts slow, and at first it was unclear what it was or where its going. Why open in this non-descript field? Wasn't there a location without powerlines? Couldn't they have been cropped out? At the end it becomes devastatingly clear why it had to open and close at this particular spot.

And, gradually the authentic ordinary-ness of the India and Canada locations becomes more and more transfixing and transporting. It infiltrated deep in my memories, connecting its story line with my own actual travel experiences, which are much more than the curated and photoshopped highlights that my superficial memory has coalesced around.

Similarly, I was drawn deep into the young love scenes. All the acting was great. Paria Sidhu in particular excels in inducing emotion from a glance or expression. These scenes brought me right back into the feeling of my own innocent, all-encompassing loves. Then there come the miscommunications, crossed wires; the bureaucratic and familial complications ... I felt like I was reliving the strongest emotions of every relationship I ever had, as the characters' expressed emotions intersected my muscle memory of the exquisite torture of love sickness; of yearning for and finding connection... I can't recall having such a powerful, deeply authentic emotional journey in a movie.

It was like the movie opened my heart wide...and then just plunged its message in.

I can see why the director was haunted for decades by this story, and felt he must share it. This is the kind of movie that infiltrates deep in the viewers consciousness and subconsciousness; illuminates with devastating clarity a practice so utterly unacceptable it *must* change, and in so doing creates the conditions for it to change.
