Are we getting the message?
cinematic_aficionado2 March 2013
This is not an easy film to watch but it is a highly recommended one.

A group of young men get hold of a boat and disembark in Mumbai with one and only intention: to kill as many as possible. In case one wonders as to why, the quickest response would be that they were convinced that such a deed would please God and a pleasurable paradise would await them.

Once ashore they follow their mission to the last letter. Death is spread in Mumbai like virus. In a taxi, cafe, hotel, train station and hospital.

The blindness of religious indoctrination does not allow them for a single moment to think and comprehend their actions; after all they are pleasing God, or so they were convinced.

The scenes are both graphic and distressing to watch. For much of this film, I wish I had been there to warn the unsuspecting family man, the child, the female clerk all of whom died simply because they were on their path.

The theme of the film must not be misunderstood as being anti-Islam but anti-fanaticism. Religion in itself is not the problem, extremism is.

Watch it, shed tears and pray for healing and compassion.

A disturbing but real facts of terrorism !!
npoddar059 March 2013
Long time after Sarkar, RGV has made, not great but, a movie which will hold you tightly to your seat with a sequence of shocking, painful, disturbing but true events.

Based on the facts disclosed by Rakesh Maria (then Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Police. Now Chief of Anti Terrorist Squad, Maharashtra) to Investigation Committee regarding the 26/11 terror attacks on Mumbai, story is narrated by Nana Patekar who played the role of Rakesh Maria. Nana as usual has given an outstanding performance but other characters in movie lacked badly the acting skills. Sajeev Jaiswal, as Ajmal Kasab, was undoubtedly a good choice to play the role but overacted in a sequence where he was interrogated by Nana. The scene where Nana as police officer takes Ajmal to mortuary and shows the dead bodies of others terrorists is the most outstanding scene of the movie with marvellous dialogue delivery by Nana. RGV also tried smartly to infuse some moral dialogues to avoid hurting any religious sentiments and conveyed a message that terrorism is just a product of some ruthless insane minds and not of any community or religion.

The script lacked some deep emotions. It was all about killing and butchering of people all over the city. Audience would have liked to know something more about the terrorists and reason behind making them into such killing machines.

It's highly recommended to watch this movie only if you are interested to know the truth and mentally prepared to see enormous bloodshed, others should know that this is not one that can be enjoyed with popcorn.

Dark, depressing but good film
dineshprakash1 March 2013
Score 7 /10 Director Mr. Ram Gopal Verma has done good work. He has very balanced approach about this extra sensitive Terror Attack on Mumbai on 26/11. He has enhanced the emotional quotient of this film by adding some very fine nuisances in taking and presentation. Hats off to Mr. Director, for making this film without inserting any commercial aspect. His intention was just to pay homage to the person and Police men killed in this unfortunate attack simultaneously he condemned the terror attack without naming or underlining any religion. Director also tried to avoid unnecessary violence, without showing a crying baby being shot he shown the gun shot sound and the baby's crying sound went mum. Writer Mr. Rommel Rodrigues's work is very good. He conceived the film and scenes without being influenced by any prejudice. Scenes are good except few ones who sounded exaggerated for example, receptionist at Taj ,tried to save the kid, when all the attackers are roaming around her. It was absolute filmy. He highlighted the emotions by adding few scenes, for example Terrorist asks for water and killed the person after drinking it, old person killing in Cama Hospital. Dialogues are very good. Performance wise Nana Patekar is brilliant. Actor Sanjeev Jaiswal who portrayed the character of Ajmal Kasab is also brilliant. Rest are fine. Action Director Mr. Javed Aejaz 'work is impressive. Art work by Udai Prakash Singh is also good. DOP (Harshraj shroff and M. Ravichandran Thevar) work is fine too. Background score by Amar Mohile supports well the film.

Speechless....RGV take a bow......
ckaran801 March 2013
Years passed since the terrible attacks of 26/11 that horrified Mumbai and killed hundreds of innocent people....many documentaries made, explanations given but finally Ram Gopal Verma brings 'The attacks of 26/11' and he undoubtedly brings back in our minds all the tragic events of the fateful day...

'The attacks of 26/11' focuses the beginning of the attack and the terrorists involved in it as portrayed by one man - The Joint Police Commissioner played by Nana Patekar. The film begins with invasion of terrorists through the sea and since then every attack on various places are shown, which easily unnerve any Indian watching the film. The firing is brutal, bloodshed even more terrifying as real life incident, forcing you to hate terrorism even more. The rescue mission of Taj is not shown which i believe is due to the script being more Kasab oriented.

The script is perfectly written, the background score takes this movie to another level, the direction is absolutely perfect(no silly camera cuts) and the climax makes this movie a masterpiece.

As far as acting is concerned, its Nana Patekar on one side and others on other.Nana Patekar proves why he is the best.Debutant Sanjeev Jaiswal impresses as Kasab.

This movie is not only a tribute to all those innocent victims on that fateful night, but also reveals the flawful and irresponsible security system of our country, leaving its people helpless against terrorism.

You wont regret after watching it!!

Warning: Spoilers
RGV the gutsy director of Indian cinema had come up with his new flick with a highly controversial n terrifying concept of "26/11" It couldn't be easy for a filmmaker to re-imagine the horror of that terrifying night that scarred the entire India forever. What Ram Gopal Varma is dealing here is a raw reality...He raised a question on what kind of hate the terrorists are showing towards any other country? I think no one on the earth can answer this question... coming to the performances "Nana patekar" the Joint commissioner of Mumbai and the guy who played the role of kasab was Impeccable and they nailed it. Overall its a good flick with a thought provoking conversation.. I bet one will not regret watching this flick instead he comes out with his heart filled up tears..!!

Movie has it's heart in a right place
shriharijk23 March 2013
I just watched 'The Attacks of 26/11' on Eros Now... not sure why so called Critics are writing against this movie or debating about what is missed to show in the movie. Somehow I feel; this movie is not about what is shown and what is missed ... it's a depiction of those tragic and barbaric events where Indians suffered, Indian forces suffered, it was a situation in which nobody actually knew what was going on for first few hours ... everyone learned a lesson with the hardest way about security, lapses, proactive preparedness, faith and sad psychopaths trained in the name of God. Movie has it's heart in a right place and there is a message too - if someone really wants to understand it.

The Attacks of 26/11 - Review
kescool1 March 2013
The Attacks of 26/11 (Review) - Director Ram Gopal Varma had created quite a controversy when he visited the actual site where the terror attacks had happened way back in 2008. All the observations made back then alongwith the developments since then have been put together to make "The Attacks of 26/11". The director took a very different path at the first place in publicising his movie by not releasing a trailer or a first look. He directly released the first 7 minutes of the movie and that created quite an interest about what the final product would be like. The movie clearly shows how the 10 terrorists from Pakistan made their way into Mumbai by sea by threatening and taking help of few Indian fishermen. What transpired after the terrorists came into Mumbai is one of the dark chapters that the world witnessed. The level of crime and offence that was inflicted by the terrorists on Mumbai and its people were as horrendous as it could get. Ram Gopal Varma has done a lot of home work as he manages to recreate all the scenes that occurred at Leopold Cafe, The Taj, Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus etc.. very well on screen. The performances of the actors stand out in a couple of scenes, one such scene wherein a constable sitting and crying helplessly amidst the dead bodies at the CST. Nana Patekar as the Joint Commissioner of Police plays his role to perfection. In fact, it is his statements about the incidents around which the movie revolves. His performance in the scene where he tells Kasab as to what Islam really is, with controlled aggression, is praiseworthy. Not much importance has been given to the NSG commandos who played a huge role in fighting the terrorists apart from a couple of mentions here and there. Sanjeev Jaiswal who plays Kasab has done a decent job with his performance. He fits the role perfectly and also resembles Kasab a lot. The cinematography is good in a couple of sequences. As much praiseworthy as the performances are, the same cannot be said about the screenplay. Even though the run time of 2 Hours of the movie does not bore you at any instant, it is definitely not as hard hitting or as satisfying as it deserved to be. It just lacks that zing that would have otherwise given you a satisfying watch. All said and done, Ram Gopal Varma's "The Attacks of 26/11" may not be a must watch as expected but it is definitely nothing short of "worth a watch". The movie can certainly be considered a tribute to all those innocent ones who lost their lives in these horrendous sequence of events and apart from the movie, a big SALUTE to all those from the armed forces who fought against terrorism. My verdict - 6/10.

Awesome movie
ankit-niitian1 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is really an awesome movie. The movie touches the horrible aspects of the attacks. The presentation of how the terrorists killed men, women, children alike was heart touching. The way the movie presents how the terrorists are brainwashed is commendable. Also the post-event scenes are really good. Especially the dialogs of Nana Patekar when he takes Kasab to the dead bodies of his fellow terrorists. The highlight of the movie was Nana Patekar, his acting was brilliant to say the least. He brought life to the character and portrayed it really well.

I would say the movie is a must watch. Kudos to RGV for making such a brilliant movie.

The Attacks Of 26/11-Movie Review
sidg-siddharth4 March 2013
The Attacks of 26/11 is a movie directed by Ram Gopal Verma on the horrific and barbaric terrorist attack on the city of Mumbai and in essence, a proxy war waged against India, beginning on 26th November 2008. Many expected this movie to be a dud or even worse, a disastrous rendition of an event that shocked us all. Contrary to all that, the movie is nothing like these descriptions and makes for a good watch.

The movie was more of a play-out the events drama, so the plot was not something that was woven out of thin air but rather the actual truth stitched together piece by piece. RGV uses an interesting narrative angle: The Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Police narrating the incidents to an inquiry commission. This too was inspired from the actual commission which deposed Rakesh Maria(the actual JC at the time of the attacks). Nana Patekar essays the role brilliantly, as he not only acts, but embodies the character, flowing with it in a tone which is hard to describe but if I had to, I would put it this way: " Aisa lagta hai ki he was the actual JC at the time of the attack".

A young newbie actor Sanjeev Jaiswal plays the role of Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the terrorist who was captured and later hanged. Although I didn't have my hopes riding on him, Sanjeev does a decent job playing the character. He has a mean look throughout the movie which tends to get a bit over the top at times but overall, is not too farcical.

Also, the highlights of the movie were: a. Due credits were given to all parties involved. Despite the hardcore media bashing it received post the attack; the Mumbai police had worked their level best last night. RGV encompasses all of this but also makes room for their errors. Plus, the movie is well crafted to ensure that the message (Terror has no religion) doesn't die as the director sensitively handles the possible religious inflammation over certain scenes

Lastly, the flaws. The movie was a bit abrupt and short for me. For starters, it didn't cover the shootings at Nariman House, Oberoi Trident and Taj adequately. The brave operation by the NSG which resulted in the extinguishing of the terrorists was omitted. Also, the role of the attack's masterminds was just touched upon briefly and not detailed.

To end it, all I will say is this. The movie released on 1st March 2013. 3 days later, nearly all shows at the cinema nearby are sold out. Mind you, this being a RGV movie, is a complete surprise after his recent debacles. So, this movie has something. Something that packs a punch.

Only reason to watch this movie is to help victims not for story or direction
priyanksh-623-1414073 March 2013
I was having really high expectation from this movie. I was wrong to think that people might change. People who made this movie still think that they should add some "Masala" in movie to make it hit. Movie is lacking realistic effect. They tried to show so many things and in the end it turned out to be a spaghetti.

There is huge difference in reality and in movie, they tried to add some sentiments and add some stories which do not make sense at all. I am sure it must be difficult for them to think about a good ending, but I am still confused what kind of message they are trying to send out via this movie.

Only reason why I went to see movie and ask you to go and see because of its aspect of helping victims of Mumbai attack.

One of the best film on terrorism
rahulranjan20105 March 2013
'The Attacks of 26/11' - is very good featured movie, in my opinion. I definitely recommend this movie to every youth or if you like Ram's movie. i really liked the scene of this movie where 'Joint Commissioner of Police' - Nana Patekar explained the meaning of Jihad for those who as Kasab.

Actually salient Hindi movie. this is a Hindi crime-thriller film, based on the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma and Sanjeev Jaiswal who plays the role of terrorist Ajmal Kasab.

We get to know the extent to which Kasab is brain-washed and given a falsified understanding of Islam in the name of Jihad. Nana's wondrous reactions during this episode are marked. Such scenes show the class that RGV is capable of, even though he has been aided by the performances of Nana and Sanjeev Jaiswal as Kasab. Though the characterization of the terrorists is pretty hollow with just black shades written all over them, Sanjeev is authentic as the evil incarnate Kasab who realizes his foibles as he is finally hung on 21st November 2012.

At the core, the soul is missing
AvinashPatalay28 March 2013
Any story based on real-life events can only connect if it has a soul thereby making an instant connect with the audience. In the case of "The Attacks of 26/11" only after Kasab is captured the human side begins to surface. Until this point in time, the entire proceedings seem to be a documentary devoid of any emotion what so ever. If the writer/ director would have addressed this right from the first frame "The Attacks of 26/11" would have been a different experience altogether.

Sanjeev Jaiswal as Kasab is first class. Delivers a master-piece performance. Atul Kulkarni was wasted in a minuscule role and perhaps warranted better footage. Nana Patekar comes alive only after the capture of Kasab and is a treat to watch him portray the Joint Police Comissioner. Pre-dominantly "The Attacks of 26/11" appears to Rakesh Maria's version of what happened back then.

Yes, its a great attempt but could have been definitely better.

The attacks of 26/11 was a golden opportunity gone wasted
ketgup8310 March 2013
The Attacks of 26/11 was almost there giving the brief encounter of the events that shook Mumbai city on 26th December but looses the steam at the later portion of the reel.

On the dreadful night of 26th December-2011, Mumbai city was under attack by Pakistani militant group , Lakshar-e-toibah. 10 terrorist , all in their 20's, stormed the busy city and waged war with bullets , hand-grenade killing anything and everything that comes there way.

From the director of cult movies like Shiva , Rangeela , Raat , Sarkar to name a few , RamGopal Verma makes a good comeback with this war drama but falls flat on the face with loose screenplay later. The film begins with a bang giving fact and figure about the way of how 10 dreaded folks enters the India border through sea and recounts the attack at Carma Hospital , The Leopad Cafe , The Taj West and Chatrapati Shivaji railway station killing 168 people and leaving more than 200 injured. But the movie ends up abruptly with the capture of terrorist Kasab who was the only one who was alive. Why did not they show how brave soldiers fought back with other terrorists only to kill them ? Also the interrogation scene between Kasab and Joint Commisionor of Police was over the top. I felt , Verma is not the right form. The veteran direction could have made it much better in the end. Editing is good. Cinematography is excellent. Special mention to the art director for re-creating the places which came under attack. Action scenes are good. Nana Patekar is good but not great. Sanjeev Jaiswal was superb as Kasab.

Overall , the attacks of 26/11 is an opportunity gone wasted. Average 2.5/5

Ram Gopal Verma is a sensationalist not a realistic filmmaker
ruchirbhai-629-55238411 March 2013
All RGV wanted to do with this movie was give a very sadistic take on the incident. Seems like RGV lives in a bubble where does not care to research his film subjects anymore. If he had even watched the documentary which is on youtube he would have had some real story to tell. A well rounded script is missing. The movie just has enough substance to make a good promo and entice people to come to the theater to watch the movie.

This movie is in no way close to how the real indecent needs to be portrayed and a very very irresponsible effort on a very horrifying indecent.

This movie is strictly a money making exercise and a lazy effort. Wish i could give it 0 stars

Thought provoking with big sentiments but acting missing.
rhl-sachan3 March 2013
If only acting of other characters (Nana Patekar stands out as usual) have been up to the line, this could have been a great movie. The narrative in voice of Nana Patekar is really able to bind you with each and every scene. Some of the events are overly explained and acting of Kasab (Sanjeev) disappoints. The best part of movie is where Joint Commissioner of Police and Kasab are in face to face (happens twice). In first one, RGV is able to bring out the mindset of terrorists and meaning of jihad for them, In the second one, he is able to narrate the falsehood in the theory of jihad and extremist characteristics of religion. It has bollywoodiya style of telling the story but that's OK because its not a documentary, it's a commercial cinema movie.

Why watch: If you are like thriller and action (too much gunshots, bloodshed). If you are fan of Nana Patekar's acting and RGV's movies.

Why not watch: If you like romantic and tadk-bhadak movies. If you are thinking it as documentary on 26/11 attacks.

Pathetic Direction
mandavyakapoor6 March 2013
This movie is a bit personal and emotional. I love the movie because of the story and truth behind it. Script was good, no doubts, but what the hell is with the direction, it simply sucks. Trust me the direction sucked. Director made the scenes look like a 80's action fix. I hoped and expected so much. No worries the story makes up for it.

Secondly, about half the actors and actresses did a sad and an unconvincing job. What-sup with a kid saying ,"I don't want to die" repeatedly. Lets just cut it to the end, I found the movie very personal to me.I did get emotional, cause of the truth it reflected. So,summing it all up, direction sucked, acting pathetic. Watch it only because of the story.

Nana Does It Again!
uncle_g123423 March 2013
The biggest plus in this movie is the way Nana Patekar carries the movie on his shoulders. He is, without question, an elite artist in Indian-language movies. He comes as close as anyone can to perfection on every outing. I think the world is shockingly ignorant of this gem of India. The people it acknowledges are, almost totally, far beneath his stature.

There was an imbalance in the movie. Varma seemed to revel in scenes of vulnerable people being shot. I hope this isn't some sick obsession of his. I really did like Satya and Company. There was brutal violence in them, but way short of the first part of this movie. Focusing on the fearful eyes of small children takes it a bit too far for me.

On the other hand, the whole NSG part of the story was brushed aside with a single line. I wanted to see how the movie would handle that. Varma decided it wasn't worth the time or expense.

The part of the movie focusing on Kasab during his imprisonment was worth dealing with. We have no idea if any of the action happened in real life, but it did send a worthwhile message. It made me want to find out what the final disposition of the terrorist bodies was. I can't see a "respectful burial" for people who had no religion but spilling blood of innocents.

Another epilogue is the fate of the handlers back in Pakistan. If ISI could sneak people this easily into Mumbai, could RAW repay the gesture? Look what Navy Seals did with Osama Bin Laden.

But back to the very best quality. Nana. He deserves the highest artistic honor India can give him. I've seen other actors who've gotten it, and very few deserve it more.

A Nutshell Review: The Attacks of 26/11
DICK STEEL10 March 2013
With the 9/11 attacks, it took a while before it was inevitable that filmmakers took to the series of events - and there were many - and started to adapt some for the big screen, from Paul Greengrass' United 93 and Oliver Stone's World Trade Center. Some quarters may call this insensitive, while others deem it no different from any other big screen treatment of real incidents, from wars to crime to just about any genre. And from the audacity of the type of attacks in 9/11, using commercial planes as projectiles and forever changing the endgame possibility of any aircraft hijacker, the Mumbai attacks also brought equal notoriety in the tactics used, something simple in utilizing a small group of armed men committing nothing but mass murder on the streets of the city.

If you had been glued to your screens during this extended series of shootings and bombings in real time, then the immediate assessment was that the city's police was grossly overwhelmed, being neither equipped nor trained to handle situations like these, because not only was it unprecedented - hearing the Joint Commissioner of Police (Nana Patekar) telling it as it is to a commissioned inquiry - but at the time nobody could have dreamed of how daring this plan could have been, which I suppose the simplicity of it all could have shocked any security force from their complacency.

Ram Gopal Varma recreated most of the night's events, starting from the high seas with the hijack of an Indian fishing vessel used to transport the select group of murderers to within range of Mumbai, before setting off in a rubber boat to its shores, fanning out in different directions to inflict mass mayhem, using the element of surprise and confusion to great effect, not to mention being armed to the teeth with bombs, grenades, and countless of rounds for their rifles. Most of the first half of the film tracked various routes the murderers took, from the Leopold Cafe, to the Taj, and Cama Hospital, amongst others already rigged such as the explosives in a cab that they took, in addition to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, with others such as the Oberoi and Nariman House being mentioned as targets.

As a film, there's a sense of urgency pulsating through the narrative, told through the perspective of the Joint Commissioner as he recounted events on that faithful day, with the necessary flashbacks to key events being played out by the director. I suppose RGV would have accessed plenty of archived footage and research to bring some authenticity to some of the violence on display here, at times using slow-motion to either focus on the zombie nonchalance of the killers, or for dramatic effect when showing some humanity exhibited by some who had also fallen victim.

While the film had no lack of showcasing the battle zones and senseless violence as inflicted on the entire city, the decision to keep this film to just about 2 hours meant plenty left on the cutting room floor. The Taj and the Oberoi, one of the longest stretches of battles between the police and eventual commandos sent from New Delhi, and that with the terrorists, were never featured, as are how the rest of the group never shown how they were subdued. From accounts of eyewitnesses, there were also enough tales of heroism shown by the Taj staff and many others, but this is not the film used to celebrate these selfless acts. Which is a bit unfortunate given that these acts probably saved countless of lives as the murderers went room to room in harrowing fashion. RGV captured the horror without a doubt, but for reasons unexplained, chose to leave out that of heroism.

Instead, what we got - and I'm not complaining - was the focus strictly on the Joint Commissioner, who had spent more than half the film rooted in his hot seat as he recounted what would be the worst day of his policing career, and that of the solo adversary who had been captured alive in Ajmal Kasab (Sanjiv Jaiswal). The attacks were quickly played out after a brilliant start, leaving resolution as nothing but a passing remark and footnote in the film, preferring to center itself on the ideological battle between the Joint Commissioner and Kasab, which culminated in yet another riveting scene constructed in a mortuary, with Nana Patekar delivering his best performance in the film here with a solo monologue, knowing that he's not able to knock any logical sense into his opponent, but still delivering successful blows nonetheless.

There's a void of characterization, obviously done without in an Us versus Them scenario, and at times it was difficult to watch the senselessness of how victims fall prey just because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. If only this film decided to expand its runtime as per a typical Bollywood film, but include the many human stories of sacrifice, humanity and heroism that were abundant, that this film could be complete and definitive. As it is, it's probably leaving the doors open for some other filmmaker to construct a more inclusive picture.

On a par with "Zero Dark Thirty", "The Attacks Of 26/11"
ravishjaiswal20501 March 2013
One of the best films in recent times on the wages of terrorism, and on a par with Katheryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty", "The Attacks Of 26/11" is a stunning wake-up call for those of us who think Mumbai's night of terror cannot happen again.

Nana holds the film together. He feels every line that he utters. His heart bleeds for each one of the 166 people who died on that night.

Before 13/11/15 in Paris...
searchanddestroy-13 March 2017
As a French, I can't prevent myself to think about the terrible mass killings that happened in Paris on November Friday the 13rd, Black Friday, in the Bataclan theatre, and not only...I guess this Indian movie will not be released in France, at least not now. And certainly not shown to people who survived the killings in France. You have here unbearable scenes, where even children are slaughtered, in bloody slow motion sequences. For another film, a cheap feature, I would say these sequences are purely gratuitous. But all this stuff is so realistic, till that policeman who slips on a blood paddle. This is however an astounding piece of work. But, I repeat, this movie could be falsely considered as a sort of defence of terrorism. The highlight and delight of massive killings. But this is of course not the message. I nevertheless hope this film will one day be watchable in France, on DVD or aired on a channel. But not on prime time !!! A masterpiece for me, as powerful, although different, as ELEPHANT.

Good ..Could have been better
kksean8919 March 2013
I happened to steal some time to go to watch this brilliant movie "The Attacks of 26/11"..This movie has lots of thrill, gore, emotions running high all the time and lots of religious quotes..The actors who played terrorists were a bit tacky although full marks for makeup artists for making them look like Pakistani terrorists..very intriguing movie and Nana Patekar as always just wins you over with a classy and flawless acting. The cinematography is pretty cool as well unlike in Ramu's other movies..The CST Station ,Leopold Cafe scenes were also well enacted, movie had pace, its not a slow draggy movie at all again unlike Ramu's other movies.Movie also ends in a very different and epic manner which i loved the most in the whole film .In this movie you will go through a series of emotions except happiness..i was sad and angry through the whole movie. So its definitely a must watch for all Indians especially Mumbaikars.

Highly Irritating !
agrawal-chetan21 February 2018
Cant imagine how poorly the selection was made on the segments of stories. What to choose, and what to ignore -- thoroughly failed.

It appears that the director had lost the confidence on himself, hence he chose to give maximum footage to Natsamrat. Although, the selection of Nana Patekar is 100% correct, but director failed to decide how much time of the movie should show Nana.

And who are the people listening to Nana Patekar ?? Are they useless officers, don't they have any concrete question to ask. There are tons of Opinion (with emotion, and lousy background music) being shared than actual Courageous incidents, which plenty of Mumbaikars, and NSG commandos must have shown.

This movie could be a pride moment, but director has truly lost it.

A moving sketch of dreadful terror attack...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
venkat_adithya1 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The movie superbly throws light on the many aspects of terrorism in a mature and moving way. The film highlights how the ulterior motive of the terrorists is self-centered, their philosophy is hypocritical and how no one can escape the deadly paws of terrorism. For example, there is a sequence showing the attackers incessantly shooting the innocent crowd at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and how they spared none - be the burqa-clad Muslim women, the Hindu priest, the rich and the poor, the foreign nationals, children and even animals.

It is a film that is completely performance driven. I would like to throw a word of praise for the casting director here. Debutante Sanjeev Jaiswal, as one of the two key members of the cast, has worked extremely well to portray Ajmal Kasab's character on screen. For Nana, this film substantiates the fact that he can pull off thoughtful, powerful and serious roles like a pro.

After a string of flops, for RGV (who had earlier delivered successful films like 'Satya', 'Company') this is a comeback of sorts. 'The Attacks of 26/11' will help the filmmaker redeem the 'brilliant director' tag. Now I know why he said that this film has been his most challenging project till date. Because recreating terror and its aftermath on celluloid is no mean feat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most striking aspect of this movie is exposing how useless, incompetent and rookie type of defenses we have.both inside, and perhaps, also on the borders. its a very bitter truth.so non professional and those scared expressions on faces of each of them led to the whole 26/11 episode get to exponential proportion and casualties multiplied many-folds. Indian man, Indian race in general ,seems so incompetent. I know its based on real events and we cant expect Film like heroism in real life. But it is way below pathetic the system reacts, and will react anywhere in India,if a situation like this arises again. Lack of self respect, and core values of excellence in a common Indian man, each one of us,leads to our locality, city, society, politicians and whole nation having became incredibly rotten and useless. we ourselves are to blame for garbage we eat.

I Am Disappointed By Ram Gopal Varma!

While the director is striving very hard to handle his reputation as a phenomenal film-maker, comes a shabby work by him which not only plays with the emotions of people affected by the theme of this movie, but also stems his future.

The Attacks of 26/11 is a gimmick which tells you a story more of the involved terrorist Kasab than talking about the actual happenings. The first half is average with information easily read, reviewed & published on media. It involves most of the killing part and how the terrorists grapple the whole city with their shenanigans. With soundtrack copied from Max Payne's theme music, it couldn't get worse with the second half which is utterly boring & monotonous. Moreover, it only focuses on Kasab, his worships & beliefs, & Nana Patekar, who didn't go well with the character he portrayed. Conversation goes boring as we expect more action on screen. Soon after, the lead officer tells us about the attacks reaching its crescendo, the movie shuts off with further dull screenplay.

Performances are great and vivid, with the lead players doing well for being débutantes. I appreciate RGV's talent in that, but the music is bad, screenplay is average and cinematography is poor. Writing, as i told, is improper, flaccid & vague. Plus, the climax makes it worse and I personally feel, that should NOT have been included in a movie which boasts off of a title so oblivious with its own story.

The Attacks of 26/11 is not a must-watch because you know everything about it, just like Kathryn Bigelow's 0Dark30. But, if you wait for the DVD and rent one to reconnect with the way Mumbai Police, judicial system works and to reinvent the sentiments of the gruesome attacks, I would recommend it for the sheer vendetta pleasure!

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES
