- Emma is shocked when she learns the true identity of Gold's son, as flashbacks show when Rumplestiltskin was called to war. Back in Storybrooke, Regina, Cora and Hook search for Rumplestiltskin's dagger.

- In the Enchanted Past: Rumpelstiltskin tells Milah excitedly that his weaving days are over and that he is going to the front lines of the Ogre wars. Milah tries to convince him not to go because she thinks it is too dangerous. Rumple says it is the chance he has been waiting for his entire life, he wants to prove he's not like his father who was a coward. She allows him to go and says that when he returns they can start a family.
In Present Day New York City: Emma, Henry, and Mr. Gold enter a building.

In Present Day Storybrooke: Regina's house: She's talking to her mother, Cora. Regina's sad, and Cora asks her why. Regina tells Cora that Henry's left town with Emma and Mr. Gold. Hook overhears Regina and Cora talking and asks her where Mr. Gold has gone. Regina says that she doesn't know. Hook says that because Gold has left town, he's powerless and can be killed. Cora tells Hook that if either she or Regina left town, they'd lose their magic. Hook asks about memories, Regina informs him that because none of them were victims of the curse, none of them would lose their memories by going over the town line, just their magic. Hook plans to go after Gold while Cora says that with Gold gone, they can search for the one magical item that can kill him, the dagger.
In Present Day New York City: Henry's looking at a list of tenants in an apartment complex. Emma says that that means that Baelfire is using an alias. Emma notices one of the tenants listed doesn't have a name, only a number. Emma says that's the right tenant. She hits the call button and claims to be delivering for UPS. There's no response. Henry: "Maybe you should have said FedEx". Suddenly there's a sound outside. They see a man running down the fire escape. Gold says that Emma needs to honor the favor and because he's using a cane, she'll have to run after Bae and get him to talk to Gold. Emma chases the man through the streets and into an alley, eventually tackling him. He gets up and she looks at him. "No," said Emma, "you." Emma's looking at her former fiance, Neal Cassidy. "Emma," he says. They both get up. Emma starts yelling at him for playing her false, telling Neal that his father is in New York. He starts yelling until Emma says she's the only one who's allowed to be angry. Neal says they can continue their conversation in a bar.
Henry and Gold are talking. Gold is afraid that his son will not want to see him. Henry tells Gold that he forgives Emma for letting him go, so Baelfire will as well.
Neal and Emma are talking in the bar. Emma asks Neal if he knew she was the savior. Neal says no. He tells her that he left her because August showed Neal something that changed his mind. He showed Neal a typewriter with the words "I know you're Baelfire" written on the page. Emma's confused as to how they met because it's a big coincidence. Neal says that maybe fate brought them together and maybe something good came from it. Emma lies and says that nothing good came from it and that she is over him. He points out that Emma is wearing the necklace he gave her. Emma tells Neal that she's going to bring him to his father. Neal refuses and tells Emma to lie to Gold.
In the Enchanted Past: Rumple walks into a military camp. A soldier tells Rumple to guard a crate with his life. When he asks what's in the crate, the soldier replies that it's something that can turn the tide against the ogres. Rumple hears the thing inside the crate call out his name. He uncovers the crate expecting to see the seer but it's a child. She says she's thirsty, and Rumple gives her some water. She tells him that she is a seer. She says she can see his future, even about his wife. The seer tells him that his wife is with child, but his actions will leave his child fatherless. She says when he sees the cows he'll know she's telling the truth. Rumple calls her a liar and covers the crate with the sheet again.
In the Present Day: Emma calls her mother, Mary Margaret and tells her about Neal being Baelfire. Mary Margaret tells Emma to tell Henry because Henry deserves to know. Emma says she can't do that because she doesn't want to hurt Henry. Mary Margaret asks Emma if she's doing it to spare Henry's feelings, or hers.
Henry's asking Gold why he's nervous. He asks Gold why he doesn't look into the future. Gold says that looking into the future is complicated and that to do it is terrible, like a curse. Emma walks in and tells Gold that his son escaped.
In Present Day Storybrooke: Regina goes to see Belle in the hospital. She asks Belle if Belle can help her find something belonging to Mr. Gold. Belle says she doesn't know Mr. Gold. Regina uses a spell to make Belle fall asleep and then removes a paper from Belle's bag, a note containing the numbers to a book in the library. Cora, Hook, and Regina go looking for the dagger in the library, thinking Gold would have left the dagger with Belle. Instead, they discover a map which Hook says he can use to find the dagger.
Mary Margaret tells David that Rumplestiltskin is Henry's grandfather. They conclude that Regina is Henry's Step-Great-Grandmother.
In Present Day New York: Gold breaks into Neal's apartment. Emma tries to convince him not to but he doesn't listen.
In the Enchanted Past: Rumple watches as wounded men are brought into camp from the front lines. A soldier says that they're lucky. Rumple says that they would beg to differ. The soldier replies that the only way people get sent home is if they're wounded and can't fight. He tells Rumple they're lucky because they won't be torn limb from limb by the ogres. Another soldier says that the duke has announced that they will not be marching into battle, but riding into battle on horses. He tells everyone to grab a cow. Rumple freaks out and asks about it only to learn that a cow is a saddle. He goes to the seer's crate. He says that everything she told him is coming true, and he removes the sheet to find the crate empty. He sees a hammer and cripples himself by hitting his knee with the hammer.
In Present Day New York: Emma tries to convince Gold to leave without breaking into Neal's apartment. He enters it anyway. Emma sees the dream catcher and looks at it. "You found something?" Gold asks. "Nothing," says Emma. "You wouldn't still be holding it if it was nothing," says Gold. Emma asks Henry to go to the bathroom. Gold sees through Emma's bluff. She lies, saying she doesn't know Bae. Gold yells at her, telling her she will tell him or he will make her. He knocks over a chair. "No one breaks deals with me!" yells Gold. Neal enters, saying "Hey! Leave her alone!"
In the Enchanted Past: Rumple goes home to see his newborn son. He asks Milah what his name is. She says it's Baelfire. She goes on to say that he'll have to live with the shame of being Rumple's son. Milah asks if it's true that he injured himself to avoid fighting, and he admits it. She is extremely upset. Rumple tells her about the seer. Rumple became like his father, a coward, she says. Rumple says that he doesn't want his son to grow up like him, fatherless. Milah says that it's worse being Rumple's son, he should have fought and died in the war. Rumple says she doesn't mean it. She leaves the baby with Rumple and exits. Rumple promises to never ever leave Bae.
In Present Day New York: Neal refuses to talk to Gold. Gold realizes Emma and Neal know each other. Gold can tell she's lying when Emma says she only knows him because she chased him. Henry comes in. Neal yells asking Henry how old he is. Henry says he's 11 and doesn't understand why everyone's yelling. Neal realizes Henry is his son and says so out loud. Henry becomes upset because Emma told him that his father was a firefighter and died a hero. Emma admits Neal is Henry's father. Henry runs out onto the fire escape. Emma goes after him. Neal agrees to give Gold three minutes to talk to him.
In Present Day Storybrooke: Mr. Mendell is talking on the phone to "her", saying that people have said he can go now, but he wants to stay. She asks him why and he says "this is why", sending her a video of Regina using magic to get the paper with the numbers on it.
Cora, Hook, and Regina discover the dagger's whereabouts. Hook learns that Cora plans to betray him, so he attacks her. Cora knocks over a shelf to knock out Hook. Regina asks what is going on. Cora says that if they have the dagger, they'll control the Dark One. They can use his power to kill David and Mary Margaret and still have Regina appear innocent to Henry.
In Present Day New York: Henry asks Emma why she lied to him. Emma said it was because the man was a thief, a liar, a bad guy, and he broke her heart. Henry says he could have accepted the truth. Emma says she knows that but she just didn't want to remember. That's why she didn't tell him, because she was thinking of herself and not him. Henry says Emma is like Regina, she always lied to him, too. He says he wants to meet his dad.
In Present Day New York: Gold tells Neal that he wants to make up for his past mistakes. Gold says regret is the biggest sadness of life. Neal tells Gold that abandonment is, and asks how Gold will make it up to him. How will Gold make up to Bae for growing up without his father. Gold asks Neal to come to Storybrooke, there is magic there, Gold can turn the clock back, make Neal 14 again so that they can start over. Neal refuses, saying he doesn't want to be 14 again. Gold says that Neal loved him once. Neal says Rumple was once good. Gold says he changed and came to the city without magic. Neal says Gold can't fix it. Neal says that every night for many years he'd dream about Rumple letting him go into the pit. Neal says now it's his turn to let go.
In the Enchanted Past: As the Dark One walks into a clearing, the now-grown seer appears and says that she's been expecting him. She says that her prediction came to pass. Rumple tells her that since he became a coward, his wife left him, his son was compelled to enlist in the war, Rumple became the Dark One, and Bae left him so that yes, his son was fatherless. Rumple says he would have liked to know the details, the witch says knowing would have done nothing, she says he was powerless to escape even knowing. The seer knows Rumple came to find his son and she uses the eyes on her hands to tell him he will find Bae. Rumple asks how and tells her not to leave out a single detail. The seer says it will take many years, require a curse, and take all from the land. She says Rumple will not cast the curse, Rumple won't break the curse, someone else will. Rumple says that the information is not good enough. The witch says there is one way to see who it is. He must take the future-seeing eye. Rumple puts his hand on her to take it.
In Present Day New York: Neal goes to talk to Henry. Henry says it's okay they didn't meet earlier, since Neal didn't know who he was. They happily continue to chat, as Gold watches.
In the Enchanted Past: Rumple can't see anything, he says it's too much. The seer says that in time he'll be able to see. Rumple takes his hand away from her saying that she tried to give him the power so that she wouldn't have to have it anymore. She tells him that he will be reunited with Bae, but in an unexpected way. A boy will lead Rumple to Bae with the price being that the boy will be Rumple's undoing. The seer then dies from exhaustion. Rumple says "Then I'll just have to kill him."
