Confusing..
nikthebrush22 November 2023
They swapped actors for two of the main characters since the first film, I watched half of this one before realising it so don't make my mistake or you'll be totally lost! The woman who plays Mr Lee's daughter is like a cartoon, totally hammy acting. No huge twists like the first film, and total lack of tension. Not even sure who I'm rooting for by the end of the film. There's a scene where three of the main characters who are all enemies are discussing their final plan together, I couldn't explain what the hell was going on even if my life depended on it! If you enjoyed the first film - leave it there, give this one a miss.

Straight-on sequel
Leofwine_draca2 December 2023
BELIEVER 2 is a follow-up to the 2018 original that carries straight on from the action of the first movie. It's been a fair few years since I saw that one so I was left understandably confused by the first fifteen minutes, but once things work out this becomes easy to follow, adopting a typical template of rival drugs gangs battling for supremacy while the cops try to arrest all of them. It's vividly violent and gritty throughout, with visceral action dominating in the form of mass shootings and brutal executions. The usual quality you expect from Korean cinema is present and correct here, and if it falls short of brilliance, then it's still an undeniably involving production.

Non believer 2
gurumaggie9 December 2023
Holding your head to one side, swaggering and having the old man from up's glasses is not acting! Big Knife is a bit blunt tbh, I kept thinking her dreadful wig was in Ringu.

The inclusion of non verbal and non hearing characters was good.

The trope about the dad with a sick kid was a cliché like three days to retirement and the cop gets shot. I like the villains and the cops, the first film is superior and I'm going to watch it tomorrow night.

I like some of the locations and I am a fan of Korean films, food and drink.

I was very disappointed in the film big knifes fake laugh is really getting on my nerves, must do better.

Completely ruins the first movie
Eiriksterminator18 November 2023
If like me, you liked the first movie, then don't watch this sequel. It just deconstructs everything from the first movie, including the excellent plot twist, ruins characters, and has a TERRIBLE ending. I have no idea why this was greenlit, and who thought this was a good idea. It has some decent gunfights, but that's the only good thing about it.

Very confusing and don't know what the story is about
kmhlbeavis3 December 2023
I didn't watch the first instalment. Maybe I should have but then I would have been disappointed. Lots of action and the character Big blade even though they try to make her into the blind homeless violent type of woman you can see right through it that she's very attractive and sexy. That kind of added to the movie and the other female who was a soldier in the competing drug lords business. Besides that and the gun fights the rest of the movie was a complete utter mess. Sometimes you can follow the story but this time I didn't until the very end when Mr. Lee was shot dead. How did he become a Drug lord to begin with? He is not violent as he uses other people to do his dirty work and is Big blade really his daughter? That wasn't explained cleary either. It's okay for the action but nothing else.

Unnecessary! Ruin the first plot
queenvalbrient18 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I will think this movie never exist or never connected with the first one. The first one with TWIST THAT RAK IS Mr Lee Is soo unpredictable and cool and they decided to add this midquel that took the coolness away? Lol. The action is great but not so much improvement than the first one, the actors acting is good, but the plot just ruin the first movie. For real, i love the first one, so I will still take the ending that RAK IS Mr. LEE as the ending. Not this none sense.. sorry not sorry, but, the plot just come flat, and I am almost sleeping in the middle of the movie out of boredom. Sadly. Ruin some masterpiece from the first movie.

Episode 1 ended well.
chakrittna17 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The characters have changed actors from the first part. Make the character change the caractor as well. For example, the character Seo Young Rak (as Jun-yeol Ryu) who is calm, smart, and difficult to guess, changes to look very normal. And without charm. I think the director changed the actor from Jun-yeol Ryu to Seung-Hoon just because he could speak Chinese. To match the content of Mr. Lee is Chinese .And Jin Ha Rim's character was crazy and cruel in the previous movie. They become different people in this part. The content of the movie it doesn't make sense, it's messy, and it ruins the good ending scene in Part 1 that was already shown. Changed for the worse.

An absolute mess
paulyew-4512519 November 2023
The original Believer (Dokjeon) was very good. It's not flawless, but definitely worth watching. It was no surprise when it was announced that they would make another movie based on the original story. While many expected what would be a sequel, the director decided to make a "midquel." Okay, so the new movie is trying to fill in some of the events and details that make the first movie to make the entire story a more complete story. Well, the problem is that you have a different director, different actor playing one of the lead role, many of the characters that made the first move so interesting have already died, etc. Even with these obvious flaws, they had a chance to create a decent movie here. But no... This movie completely ignores some of the fundamental storylines from the first movie. There are so many plot holes that it seems the director who made the second movie did not even watch the first movie. Very, very disappointing for a movie that many fans had eagerly anticipated.

A sequel that even surpasses the already rock solid original.
imseeg19 November 2023
This doesnt happen very often wherein the sequel actually is even better than the original! Bravo.

The good: this sequel added more character depth and drama whilst the original was more straight forward crime. What a treat to watch this violent saga unfold. Devestatingly violent and dramatic, but mesmirizing and thrilling simultaneously.

I am gonna sound like a broken record but the world must wake up to the fact that South Korea is making the very best crime dramas IN THE WORLD right now. They just keep on coming,..

Anything bad? Direction, story, photography, sound, editing are ALL of the highest quality. I cant find any fault with this shattering crime drama, besides some of the actors not being the most charismatic, but that would be my only minor criticism.

The story: In this sequel a determined cop perseveres in trying to catch a mysterious and elusive crime boss whose powerful drug imperium rules everywhere with ruthless violence. Will he finally find him or die trying? That's the cliffhanger (again...)

A Huge Let-down
accordchiang18 November 2023
The first movie, "Believer 2018" was quite interesting due to its suspense & plot twist. This sequel, unfortunately, was a total let-down. Not even A list stars like Cho Jin Woong, Han Hyo Joo or even veteran supporting actor Jo Han Chul could save this film.

The continuation of the storyline was lame. Han Hyo Joo just acted like a madwoman. Cho Jin Woong's character behaved like a rookie policeman, a downgrade of the heroic cop from the first film. Cha Seung Won was still the same villain as the first movie.

The characters spoke so much Mandarin but unconvincingly as the Korean accent was still obvious. There's even a guy who looks like Xi Jin Ping here.

The standout performer of this show has got to be Oh Seung Hoon, who replaced Ryu Joon Yeol as Rak. He played out the backstory of Rak well and performed as good as his predecessor. I was about to give up halfway, but Oh Seung Hoon carried the show well.

In a nutshell, don't bother watching this, unless you have too much time to kill.

Chaotic mess
lavigneliv22 November 2023
I'm not going to pretend that I know how the film industry works, but I was seriously let down by this movie. I really liked and enjoyed the first one, Believer 2018, and the fact that it kept me guessing for practically the whole movie was awesome, but writers of Believer 2 took that and threw it down the toilet and replaced it with brainless action scenes and rewrote plot lines and story to almost completely diminish the first film.

The change of actors doesn't bother me so much because I understand that due to other obligations and schedules, sometimes the same actor can't return to play the role. It's upsetting but it can be forgiven. I feel the actors and director did well with what they were given. I could be wrong, because like I said, I don't know much about the industry, but I don't think the director has much say in how the script is written. So they did a good job with what was handed to them. I blame the writers and whoever greenlighted this to move forward and be produced, for totally ruining a great story. It's not worth watching, in my opinion, unless you really want to be disappointed.

New actor, new confusion.
joelleehm27 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Believer 1 was pretty good, and simpler in terms of scale. Grittier, more mysterious. And most importantly, more tension.

Believer 2 is... all over the place. First, the lead actor is a different actor which was quite jarring for me as I kept wondering where the old actor was.

Second, the build up for Believer 1 was great. It had this Mission Impossible-esque element of needing to cheat your way as the main cop into deceiving a drug dealer, to help you catch everyone higher up on the food chain. There is that sense of "close to boiling point" where the characters are all a knife's edge away from killing each other. Right before they actually flat out go berserk and kill each other.

It's tons of fun, realistic and set designs were also so compelling in the first one. There is a set for tense deals with a drug dealer, a set for a huge ship shootout, a set for a meeting with the mysterious Mr Lee. The first show constantly kept you immersed and was never boring. Characters were always doing something to catch each other, kill each other or deceive each other.

Contrasted against Believer 2, where the characters simply start the show trying to track down Mr Lee. There is no tension, as everyone in the show has the simple objective of slaughtering each other but for little reason.

The new characters introduced are cool in theory but they are missing that motive or incentive to exist in the movie. They are just there to be tough. The action sequences are generally ok except for the car chase scene which has the worst "fake green screen generated effect" I've seen in a A tier action movie.

The new Mr Lee is also, just flat out less scary and compelling compared to the villains of the first movie.

It is not that bad a movie. But it is noticeably less fleshed out story wise, and it reflects in all the character's motivations. The female cop who is assistant to the main cop, honestly does nothing in the show except walk from airport to hospital.

The female new villain is JUST a killer, and not in a good way.

The new Mr Lee is flat out disappointing.

The side characters in the twin mute drug chemists are also used less effectively in the show, where they were entertaining and helped create a glimpse into the main character's story and past.

Instead 2 just INSERTS things to force a backstory into the main character instead of hinting and easing you along into it.

There was talk online about the new actor being a more suitable and expressive actor than the old actor. But frankly I just couldn't see this so-called improvement in acting expression. If anything his appearance makes him seem more bland and faceless as an action hero protagonist.

Korean action cinema is insanely competitive. This does not hold up.

Don't bother, just miserable
tiru_valentin9223 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Well, Believer 2018 was quite decent, but there is a clear message at the end, the so called "Mr. Lee" gave up that life and it is now going on a peaceful path.

Here comes Netflix with their garbage adaptation of the movie, they alter the finale of Believer 1 just so they can release a not needed sequel. I mean if you really want to release a similar movie just use the same theme/idea but don't force a story that was impossible to begin with. How can I watch Believer 2 knowing that Believer 1 was nothing like they tried to show? What is this? Fast and Furious?

Anyway, don't waste your time, just not worth it.

I don't believe it, I liked it this time
searchanddestroy-121 January 2024
This is the second film, the first puzzled me so much...But of course if the producers foresaw a sequel, that explains why I did not like the ending of the first, unlike this second part. Yes, the ending saves the movie for someone like me. For the rest, well, that's Korean, nothing to do with Western countries cinema - USA as well as Europe. It is bloody, many gratuitous violence, with although an interesting female supporting character, hardly convincing however. But I liked it. Too many characters whom I most of the time confounded. This was predictable for a movie from South Korea. And this time there won't be any more sequel.

the movie the original wanted to be.
ryanponeill199320 November 2023
This film takes the baton from the original film and completely remakes the ending. Becoming what the original was aiming for. Believer 2 Is a more entertaining movie while believer 1 is slower and more thoughtful. The combination of these two movies creates an atmosphere akin to the coen brothers. If I had just seen the believer I would have just carried on like nothing happened. But believer 2 gave characters a much needed exposition. Gave us an explanation of ambition and obsession. A satisfying conclusion. In contrast to the originals mystery ending which was frankly annoying. My only complaint is that when making the original they clearly didn't consider the sequel ahead of time so while the sequel does it's best. There are some rather obvious inconsistencies. Which can't be helped.

mindless movie
backnblack-0612317 November 2023
Horrible, this might be the biggest let down of all time with Korean movies they seem this just replace a story with killing and gore which doesnt work at all and the character played by Han Hyo-Joo didnt work either and her acting was just bad. Nothing her worth seeing.

When you watch this there isnt one instant where you actually feel good and have the feeling your seeing a quality show that had some thought when the wrote it.

Han Hyo-Joo walking around with her mouth open was too much to take, this is hands down the poorest performance she has put in and im a big fan of her and still am but good lord what a waste of time this was.

Loved Believer hated Believer 2
spwalshe15 December 2023
Loved the 1st film but found the 2nd one really lacking - and it wasn't just because I was expecting it to match the first because I didn't.

I found the storyline difficult to follow & the violence just put there for impact, some of it was OTT & not necessary IMO. I nearly switched off halfway through - in the end I wish I had.

On the plus side it is a well shot film & some of the action sequences are very good - the music is also pretty decent. These factors however are not enough to redeem Believer 2 - thankfully I can't see a 3 being made.

I really enjoy Korean TV & Film - I hope they don't run out of ideas.

Hollywood style cash grab
Harlow_WU4 December 2023
This is a classic example of a studio owning the rights to a film that was received well and then making terrible sequels in a cash grab.

The Rak / Mr Lee character is done over in a completely confusing way while the character of Won-Ho just isn't strong enough to be the lead in this sequel. So we end up with two lead characters that really aren't that accessible to the audience and, quite frankly, are too boring to care about.

Brian, who thought himself the big man in the first film but proved to be just another pawn now seems to be so well connected he's running half the show and there's no explanation for this.

As for the addition of new characters, they didn't really add anything to the plot either. Big Knife could have been an interesting character were she in another film.

The pace of the film is similar to the first one, a slow burn, however, slow burns work well then they're good but Beliver 2 is just slow with no pay off at the end. And that ending? An attempt to mirror the first film but bringing a finality to fruition failed at being interesting also.

One final thing I'd like to point out was the inclusion of the deaf brother and sister. At no point in this film were their characters relevant, I assume they were included for some sense of continuity, but the events surrounding them were completely unnecessary. If the creative team were attempting being bring a sense of sadness into the film then they went about it the wrong way.

I gave this film a 3/10 but I'm probably being a little kind.

An unnecessary sequel!
SoumikBanerjee199623 November 2023
I usually look forward to sequels to films that I enjoyed or found entertaining,in this case, however, a second installment seemed completely unnecessary.

Although they introduced a few interesting characters, and took more action-heavy approach, none of those felt like meaningful additions, rather a tactic to deceive the gullible audience into believing they had cooked something worthy of their time and effort.

Which, by the way, wasn't the case anyway!

Aside from the gritty, rugged outward appearance, this continuation failed to deliver on its initial promise and fumbled in almost every way possible.

Interesting.....
Bgappl0725 March 2024
According to other reviewers, it's probably good that I have a short term memory loss because I did see the first one and it's been quite a while since I watched it and I just finished watching the second one even though I got confused it held my attention. I thought the acting was phenomenal. I know they say they changed actors again. I don't remember that and that all is to my benefit because the film is really good, I was not quite sure what happened at the end so I looked it up and somehow it all came together so in short I was very impressed by the film the actors; -the whole deal so I'm not comparing it to the first one. I'm taking it on its own.

Replacing old main cast causes less story impact.
asif-jrrmc28 November 2023
I Don't know why ryo jun yeol replaced to oh seung, which makes the story less impact. In part 2 its a good click to continue where the part 1 ended. But the impact make ryo on part 1 is remarkable. Part 1 build the story very well but Don't know why the Director wants to make This hurry!!!

Action, acting of other actors are good. The main villain MR. LEE should be revealed in the half of the movie. But he showed up at climax. And as a typical ending the movie ends upon a family issue. Which is good. Transition of this movie is very fast. All the hidden site was revealed very fast. All the people find themselves very fast. To finding hidden place should be tough.

Way too dark for whose viewing?
s_sahar9923 November 2023
Way too dark and a lot of over acting especially the female villain. Let me say this. After watching it, I felt worse than when I watched it. It had a negative affect on me. The plot was mundane and not very clever. The direction was alright. But the overall movie and its theme was very depressing. It was too dark. It wasn't slick and intense in a good way. It was just a bunch of Villains getting at each other but the Villains were boring, hard to watch, and in your face all the time. You have to make something that has good moments, some resolution, some moments of awe.... but this wasn't it. There's a lot more than can be said but I'll leave it at that.

Terrible Sequel! Smh
18Buddha30 December 2023
This sequel film is the perfect example of when companies ruin good films by forcing a terrible sequel that tries to wedge itself inbetween the stories of the first film. They basically ruined the ending they originally had & to top it off they swapped out Ryu Jun-Yeol who played Seo Young Rak in the 1st film & god knows why but the new guy playing him decided to take the character into a different direction contradicting his original character. So in the 1st film u had this stoic, cold, calculating, almost like hes emotionless type of Villain n yet able to still portray himself looking innocent & trustable... & now in the 2nd film you got the new guy acting as if hes now got all these emotional expressions suddenly & worst of all hes now showing fear smh. In the first film u would never see fear in the 1st actors face because he knew he was playing a sociopathic emotionless Villain, now we got a watered down sappy version of him lol. They really fumbled this one... but even with so much criticism n bad things about the film you could always still find some good things; such as the guy playing Brian is now putting in another top notch performance to portray a very injured, psychotic villain. I mean every screen time he gets hes putting in the work to show every line he delivers that his character is experiencing searing n blistering pain & its such a good performance that it leaves u in such high praise of his talent to act.

Lastly you got the new villain Big Knife played by Han Hyo-Joo & she matches her predecessors energy & talent in portraying a narcissistic meth addict badass gangster. She channeled the passion & finesse of the last actor to play Jin Ha Rim (played by Ju Hyuk Kim) & they make such a perfect match for their respective roles. The new guy playing Jin Ha Rim did not pull it off well, he went from in 1st film being such a maniacal, jittery, spontaneosly crazy serial killer like druggie gangster to now in 2nd film some cool calm assasin like killer lol.

I would have rated this a 4/10 but the 2 villains performance at least held up well so 5/10.

A sequel but not really a sequel
mrjohanwinarto30 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One thing that good from this movie only its action... Or maybe if u see it as a single movie, it's still good..but if you see it as a sequel..it completely bad.. In the first movie, mr lee is from korea and try to smuggle laika into china...and jin ha rim even don't know who is mr lee and try to make appointment so he can meet mr lee.. But how come in these sequel, jin ha rim already work with mr lee?? And mr lee actually based in china...

The first movie is actually the best with the plot that rak is mr lee, if only the director of the sequel creating the story with rak as mr lee, and make seob so cheon or/and director brian make revenge from the first sequel tragedy, i think it's gonna be great..so sad the plot twisted so much even not connected from the first believer.

But yes.if u haven't look believer...it's still good action movie..only because this is a sequel and the plot make it worse.

Completely ruins the first movie
kingjeffbus3 December 2023
I looked forward to this sequel. Picking up where the first left off. But this is a jumbled mess. There's a few good action scenes, but the inclusion of a new "Mr Lee" derailed the entire plot and convoluted the first one. For something to be grounded in reality, Big Knife really throws a wrench in that. She's dang near the terminator in admittedly the coolest yet most disappointing moment of the movie. And it just continues to go down hill from there. While the first film had elements of an interesting crime drama, this one is just an overly complicated revenge film. That's not an issue within itself, but it riding the coattails of the first movie really impacts it so negatively.
