A very good series marred by pacing issues and lack of consequences for the characters.

This series starts out well and the world building is decent. I enjoyed the twist at the beginning that the one dude is a spy, and the first few episodes were pretty brutal. Hyoubu's crew ripping up other Espers could have been a good plot point, but it is relegated to a few small battles in the first half. The second half is rushed and not nearly as well paced as the first half. Also, there is no heaviness to the plot: Yes it was awful that all of Hyoubu's platoon were massacred, but the plot armor is so thick in this show that I was really surprised that Hyoubu's current crew didn't meet the same fate.

Not bad, not amazing, but it is very good.

Plot - This story is a bit like the X-Men in some respects. I don't think its a rip-off, but the set up is a bit similar. The tone and overall events are very different though. This is not a story I would spoil, all I'm going to say that it is very entertaining and well-executed.

Characters - Everyone here is well written. While you might be hesitant to continue watching after discovering how powerful one of the main characters is, be rest assured that this anime does not go off the rails. The overpowered characters have personalities and weaknesses. They were written by someone who knows how to write powerful characters and still make the plot engaging.

Animation - The animation in this show is brightly colored, slick, and visually interesting. The op is fantastic, as well as the character designs. This show looks great.

Overall, I would highly recommend watching this anime.
