The dance scene was shot on location in Tunjuetilo's stake meeting house, Bogotá, Colombia. Permission was granted by local LDS Church leaders, but most of the extras were unaware that the party was a cover-up to shoot the scene until a screening took place. They all permitted the use of their likeness afterwards.
Esteban Corzo's sister Adriana convinced him to shoot a Mormon-themed short film. Hesitant at first, he finally took inspiration from two different sources: (1) A Book of Mormon quote in Helaman 13:38, (2) The lyrics of "Fall from Grace" by Meat Loaf.
In the scene when David and Susana are alone at home studying Adolfo Bioy Casares' "Morel's Invention", upon the table there are other books besides it: José Saramago's "Lecture on Blindnees", a compilation of Jane Austen's books, John Milton's "Paradise Lost" illustrated by Gustave Doré, Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland", Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra's "El Quixote de la Mancha" and Jules Verne's "The Mysterious Island". As a nod to other Mormon artistic expressions, Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" and "The Host" books, as well as a small image inspired in Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game (2013) are also visible. Notably, "Ficciones" by Jorge Luis Borges (where the story "The Garden of Forking Paths" is published) is absent.
Enterely shot with a Canon Vixia HF-M30 with a fixed wide angle optics.
Originally had a shooting plan of only 5 days. Due actors' time restrains and last minute canceled locations, the short film took 8 months to end shooting principal photography. Interestingly, it didn't went over-budget.
Esteban Corzo: He intended to play Julián while writing the screenplay. Due that character's part in the overall story, it still counts as a "Sorrow Harverster", as other Esteban Corzo's cameos (he detonates a point of no return for the main character).
