- Karyn Mitchell carries some proverbial baggage in her work as a Homicide Detective with the Boston PD. When she was sixteen, she turned her father into the police shortly after she discovered he was a serial murderer. She and her current partner, Detective Gavin McNabb, were once engaged, and while the final straw was infidelity on his part, she admits mistakes on her part, especially in being already married to work, led to the personal break-up, but which still results in her often acting as a Lone Wolf on their cases. She has just shot dead her third serial killer in her professional life, leading to another set of mandatory sessions with the police psychologist, Dr. Aaron Kade, with he suggesting that despite each death being a case of self defense that she may actually enjoy killing as much as her victims. On her spare time, Karyn has recently started looking into the fifteen year cold case of who was coined the Hades Killer, with who she has always been fascinated, her own father once a suspect of which he was ultimately cleared. The Hades Killer shot his victims point blank in the center of the forehead before carving the Hades symbol on their body post-mortem. It is shortly thereafter that the Hades Killer or a copycat reemerges, the police believing the latter in the unlikelihood of a serial killer being dormant for that length of time. Regardless, in investigating, Karyn and Gavin will have to find some tie between the recent murders and the original ones. In the process of the investigation, Karyn, who had put her personal life on hold since Gavin, meets high end electronic salesman Mark Hanson, the two who embark on a relationship. Beyond the on-the-surface reason for meeting, Karyn begins to suspect that their meeting was not by accident as evidence points to Mark as possibly being the copycat Hades Killer.—Huggo
