A movie that changes perspective
shasanth10 February 2023
What is pain, there is a different version of pain in everyone I believe and the actor J is able to portray the pain in any character he assumes. Pain emotion, facial expressions, feelings in body language.

I couldn't stop being thrilled about the attention to detail and detailing the character throughout this movie.

The movie will not end for me, I waited till the end of the cast names to see if there was something after it.

I really feel the art of movies is in the power of pain the characters go through.

Right from the beginning till the last scene I didn't want the movie to get over, other than the minister and the police commissioner, who appeared too immature in their roles, everyone else was a treat to watch.

A definite recommend.

It will leave a tear in your eye, a beat in your heart and be a lesson for life. Beautiful movie.

Scared for etrnity!
pillaianu294 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is the feeling Jojus character is left with in the end!!

You have a twin. You have a good mother but your dad is pathetic... Ultimately it turns out on the children eventually!!

This is What the movie is about... . But the way joju acts in a single movie and 2 characters and how both characters are pathetic and how one character troubled the other when he was alive and after death also the scar one leaves on the other cannot be washed away in any way!!

The movie is amazing but somewhere in the climax you wish if its not what you think it is! But it is and the scene when Joju shoots..... it gives us a complete justification for why he felt that! A movie which fills ur mind like this is just mind blowing!!

A double role character makes perfect sense.
AjHuntt4 March 2023
A mystery thriller, as usual Joju George did one of his best performance.

An unique way of narration and somewhat unpredictable twist.

Saying about the twist, I didn't expect an end like this. A well deserving climax to a wonderfully shoot thriller movie.

For some audience the climax might feel like a disturbing one. But this kind of disturbing end is inevitable for a movie like this.

Mollywood film industry produced lots of double role characters in the history of Malayalam movies. No other double role characters which I saw before made any perfect sense comparing with 'Iratta'.

Perfectly delivered script with a proper ending !!!

Must watch
nilgirisananth4 March 2023
Leaves us spell bound at the end. As always Joju George a treat to watch.. such a matured and natural artist. Good acting by entire crew too. Fabulous screenplay and direction.

Watched it on OTT without taking a break to sip water too.. just didn't realise movie ended! Super flow of scenes, story and beautiful and scenic Vagamon. For a new comer , direction is superb indeed.. he has very meticulously ensured to keep the suspence till the end scene

Just could not predict the suspense.. and the end scene leaves us speechless.. there was complete silence in our house and after 24 hours the ending still haunts us

Iratta as good as Joseph movie.

Best writing makes this one of the best movie of this year
vigneshjk5 March 2023
This film demonstrated how to plot and create believable characters for a double-casting script. Joni George's performances as Vinod and Pramod were outstanding. One cannot truly dislike or adore any of these characters. Absolutely exquisite filmmaking! Seldom do we have the opportunity to view films of this caliber that keep you intrigued, guessing, feeling, emoting, and crying! Do not miss this opportunity in your lifetime, and if you do, do not feel regret. I rarely write reviews of the films I watch. This film inspired me to write a review since I'm not a true movie fan if I don't promote and review films of this caliber.

Twins - another Malayalam gem
firoz-aboobaker31 March 2023
A beautiful drama suspense whodunit. The story telling and the climax had an 80s Padmarajan movie feeling. Even after the credit rolls the characters will haunt you for sometime which doesn't happen in recent films. Joju george acted so well as twins. They look so different yet same.

A police officer is murdered in the police station while there is a function happening outside the police station. His twin brother who is a senior police officer at the same police station comes to the station from the hospital to find out whodunit. All the back stories are revealed while people are being questioned. A must watch.

One of the BEST films on TWINS I've seen.
MandalBros-519 March 2023
'Iratta' proved again why Malayalam Cinema is the best right now. 'Iratta' means Twin, it's the story of 2 twin brothers and a murder mystery. The screenplay was non-linear and it was important to show it in this way as through this they've shown the past lives of the lead characters. While watching this you may predict certain things but then you'll be facing that big climax.

It'll be very hard to digest that climax as it's too much disturbing. By this the film also delivers some strong social messages. Joju George as both the twin brothers nailed it. He successfully made us feel for both the characters equally, screenplay and direction does the rest. Both the BGM and the songs were used in perfect scenario. 'Thaaraattayi' will haunt me whenever I'll listen to it. A MUST WATCH.

Available on Netflix.

Malayalam cinema's take on 'Oldboy' theme
aimless_fool8 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First up kudos to Malayalam industry for keep pushing the boundaries while rest of Indian movies(mostly) are rolling in money covered in overhyped, clichéd, unoriginal crap.

Good things: 1) As usual in Malayalam movies realism and credibility of characters is good.

2) Cinematography and BGM are good.

3) Lazy elegance in acting of Joju George is amazing to watch.

4) Pushing the boundaries of script to explore the emotions, possibilities in taboo areas is a good experiment in our Indian cinema.

Bad things:

1) I am not sure whether this is inspired by the Korean movie 'Oldboy' or is it an original thought by the writer.

2) The acting of minister character, SP character and few others was poor.

3) The rape part was shown as a sleight of hand and pretty quickly pushed into background so that it can come as a shocker in the end. It's good to have that as a shocker but post that, the inner turmoils of both Vinod and Pramod should have been the main focus of the movie and should have spent more time on that. With current ending shocking value supersedes evilness, guilt, grief and other struggles.

4) Showing the dog in an obvious way in the beginning and cricket playing kids somewhat seems forced and did not seem natural. But the idea was good.

5) Most of the characters seemed one dimensional without much depth and development. Maybe because of that the movie seemed lacking. You could not connect to the daughter or to the characters of Malini and they seemed like shadows.

Overall its a brave attempt and thought provoking. But if you have already watched movies like Oldboy or Incendies then you feel a bit underwhelmed.

CLASSIC HEART FELT THRILLER
rajnitin-584664 March 2023
No words to Joju George's performance in double roll. He acts through his eyes. Very rare actors show their performance through eyes. It is said that if you want to catch anyone who has done wrong, just look into the eyes. Eyes will give you the correct picture. The movies keeps you guessing throughout about the killer. It is difficult to play double role because you need to get blended in two different characters. Joju's performance keeps the movie pretty much alive. Rest characters are okay. Hats off to the director and the whole team. Joju George has done justice with his stellar performance.

A Decent Story with connecting dots.
thedetectivecruxyt11 March 2023
A Typical Investigative Drama .

If you're in a doubt to watch it or not ?

Then go for it.

Story is expectable?

If you Focus on every scene that's shown, then you can guess it a 3-4 min before it's revealed.

The crew did a good work. The climax is Little bit disturbing if you aren't familiar with dark truths.

By the hype that's all given to its climax. I expected a lot but there's nothing that disturbing for me.

Advice to crime enthusiasts :

If you're trying to find out the culprit or twist in the movie. Then that's going to give you a great disappointment.

Apart from this , The film is a good one to watch.

Malyalam cinema is the best.
rokace-1149924 March 2023
Thought.this would be something like 'Thadam'. But man, this is next level.

Even though the location and the plot is so simple, yet it is so captivating.

The simplicity is what worked for the film. Every little detail leading upto the incredible climax.

Joju Geroge is just fantastic. While some may say that the entirity of the film is slow-paced and average,I like it the best.

The backstory of the twins is so convincing. It contains the perfect amount of suspense, nothing overboard. Every characters have done justice to their roles.

It would not be a suprise if Bollywood come with a remake of this very soon.

A competent thriller!
SoumikBanerjee199612 March 2023
I see everyone is gushing over the climax, but hardly anyone is mentioning how excellent the build-up has been, particularly in the first half. However, the second half has clearly found it difficult to find its footing, and this is where the momentum drastically dropped as the inescapable expository instruments took precedence over the previous course of action.

This was the segment I had issues with (I disliked the love track between Vinod & Malini; it felt like a trifling, pitiful attempt to plot a secondary sub-plot), thankfully, the grand finale commences soon after and concluding moments seemed to have paid off its dividends and delivered what could be regarded as one unexpected yet convincing closure. That not only tends to shock and captivate but also propagates a lasting impact!

There was so much potential!
ngandacinema5 March 2023
Iratta was not bad actually, it's just that it was told in a monotonous way and took a usual path to unveil the mystery😔

DELICIOUS

-Iratta was by far Joju George's best performance. He meticulously added a small flavor that made a big difference in identifying Pramod and his twin Vinod.

-As the saying goes "when you feed a serpent milk, its venom only increases" and that's what we saw in Iratta. When bad conduct is not corrected or punished, it later escalates and causes damages. We'll just stop right here to avoid spoilers 😑

-The rest of the cast supported Joju George really well

BLAND

-Few segments were missing logic: women who have just escaped an abusive and brutal man will not move in with a strange man, however, Malini did so without objection😬 How did officer Bineesh quickly recognize a girl he saw once during a scuffle?

-What seriously deflated Iratta was the typical way the story was told: there was the usual set of already-identified suspects, then additional characters came into the picture, and finally the revelation.

There was not much to look forward to as we had an idea of what was going on. Additionally, it became tedious to constantly see Pramod or Vinod in every scene. The lack of a parallel story affected the movie

-More intriguing and dynamic camera movements could have helped make the film more interactive and spice up the thrill.

Slow burning - Heavy impact drama ...
m-ramanan12 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
RATED 8/10 language: Malayalam Source: Netflix RECOMMENDED

The movie is slow and steady till end. There are simple and unique events from the beginning to end. The acting and revealing the characters of everyone in each scene is brilliant.

The movie takes it own time to set the base and explain each and everyone's character. The thrill factor is kept well throughout the movie.

And comes the climax with heavy impact. The climax reminds me of the movie "old boy" climax. The fae reaction of Joju George on climax scene is ultimate and unforgettable. It is haunting even after the movie.

Must watch for the classic making.

Inspiration put well
Schrodingermind11 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Great acting! Malayalam cinemas continue to attempt making world class cinemas. As for the story, I didn't like it why the twins got separated. It was not convincing why vinod was running away from his mother and sibling. But the inspiration from Incendies or Oldboy was put to good use when Pramod is in a situation where he can never meet his daughter again. Anjali was placed as a misdirection, but worked well. Her acting was matured and perfect. The movie has created a sensation and word of mouth positive reviews. This will be new and great for those who hadn't watched Oldboy and Incendies. 7/10.

CINEMA AT IT'S FINEST
VeekeyBharti4 March 2023
What do you say about a cinema where you are just gobsmacked to the core. When you had had an experience that can be best described or rather words fall short to describe it. Splendid, Marvelous, Brilliant, seem less in comparison.

Having being an ardent fan of Cinema coming out of Malayalam industry, one thing that never disappointed me was the lack of content but recent history has not been their best. But as we all know and can agree that Malayalam industry at it's worst is still the finest of all, imagine what they do when they are at the top of their game. And that's exactly what Iratta is.

CINEMA at it's finest best. Just watch it.

Double the Drama, Double the Thrill: Iratta Shines with Its Unique Storyline
amanrajabali6 March 2023
"Iratta" is a gripping and intense film that tells the story of identical twins Vinod and Pramod, brilliantly portrayed by Joju George.

The film masterfully blends elements of drama and thriller, resulting in a captivating cinematic experience.

One of the most striking aspects of the film is its treatment. The director has taken great care in crafting a visually stunning film, with beautiful shots and a color palette that perfectly complements the mood of each scene.

Additionally, the pacing of the film is spot on, with just the right amount of tension and suspense to keep the audience engaged throughout.

The acting in "Iratta" is truly outstanding. Joju George, Anjali and Arya Salim and the rest of the team is splendid. Their performances are nuanced and emotional, with moments of tenderness, humor, and intensity that bring the characters to life on the screen.

Joju brings a sense of authenticity to his roles, with each character possessing a distinct personality and mannerism.

Overall, "Iratta" is a must-see and well-crafted film for fans of drama and thriller genres and of course of Joju George. With its top-notch treatment, excellent acting, and engrossing storyline, it is a film that will leave a lasting impression on audiences.

Haunting
george519886 March 2023
It's been 2-3 days since I watched the movie but I still keep thinking about it, that's how powerful this movie, the climax is something that will haunt you for days. It's quite sad this movie wasn't that successful in theaters because it deserves a lot more attention. Director even though was new, you barely notice that in the direction. Screenplay was so well written. Joju was exceptional in both roles, he is currently 1 of the best in Malayalam cinema. Jithu ashref was outstanding in his small role, he will have his own spot in the industry soon. The 2 Miscast in the movie was srinda and Arya salim, both are really good actors but some reason, didn't blend well in these roles.

The twin redemption!
chand-suhas12 March 2023
Iratta is a whodunnit thriller is strong emotional affair too. An ASI Vinod dies in the police station due to bullet wounds leading to 3 other policemen turned into suspects. The incident occurs while they were prepping for an event outside the police station, filled with media. It turns into an high priority case and ASI Vinod's twin brother DySP Pramod joins the investigation. Far more dark secrets come out as he starts unraveling the mystery behind his brother's death.

The first act starts on strong note with the three suspects giving their versions of what kind of a person ASI Vinod was while also shedding light on his own enmity with the twin brother. The mystery behind the death is well maintained till the third act which was commendable. The second act tries to pack a bit too much with the flashback involving the twins' childhood days and their abusive father along with the flashback involving Vinod's own redemption after falling in love.

But it is the third act which gives a solid twist, without shying away from the dark nature of the reveal. The narrative indeed reaches it's emotional peak and the performance by Joju George as both Vinod and Pramod elevates the scenes perfectly. If the second act had been better balanced then it would've complimented the third act even more. Iratta is still worth watching for a good thriller movie led by a solid performance by Joju George.

Is Iratta going to be the revival of Good Malayalam Cinema?
malabarspiceghk4 March 2023
Nna Thaan Case Kodu, Thankam, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam have been such horrible and pointless movies that Iratta stands out like a beacon among the rot that is hailed as great/landmark movies by film critics with liberal ideology.

Joju George has emerged a powerhouse of an actor after a slow and indifferent start to his career. Joseph was the start of the good things to come. This is a scintilatting performance by the much gifted actor.

The movie is an amalgamation of a murder mystery and an emotional tale. The screenplay is near perfect except for role of Malini which adds flab to the proceedings and which is used only to extend the duration of the movie.

The technical aspects is just passable, however the excellent music adds a lot of heft to the progress of the movie.

Movies like Iratta have become a rarity these days in Malayalam Cinema.

The actor doesn't show specific body gestures to differentiate these twin characters.
yamazyewraldi3 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is good, disgusting, sad, and bad all at the same time.

The good points for me are: 1. The story premise is built simply.

2. The ending of the story is unpredictable and quite surprising.

3. The disgusting point is the fact that a police officer can rape a woman and walk free without any punishment or sanctions. That part is really disgusting to me.

The sad point is that the movie shows that a woman who is a victim of domestic violence does not receive special protection from the state. She will only receive protection from anyone who pities her. There are no special shelters or safe places provided by the state to accommodate vulnerable groups like this. And this fact is really sad.

And the bad point for me is that the actor who plays Vinod and Pramod doesn't show specific body gestures to differentiate these two characters. Their body gestures and every small movement they make are exactly the same, and there is no difference. You know, no matter how identical twin faces are, they always have some different body gestures. I'm not talking about the physical aspect, I'm talking about body gestures, and every twin couple always has differences in gestures when they do something.

In addition, another bad point is that the hair department team has a confusing performance. First, you can differentiate between Pramod who has neat wavy hair and Vinod who has messy curly hair as you can see in the film poster and in the some scenes. But there are many parts where Pramod has the exact same messy curly hairstyle as Vinod. So you can only differentiate between Pramod and Vinod if someone mentions their names. Moreover, the actor doesn't show specific body gestures to differentiate between Pramod and Vinod, so they really look like the same 1 person. The actor is not impressive enough in portraying the twin characters.

I would be more satisfied if Pramod followed Vinod
meenaal-600-4749534 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is new to Indian Industry, may be in Kerala Industry is starting it. In Proper space the move builts to a stage , that you will think of two options/hints, and you will expect that hint will be the climax. But that's the brilliance of directory and screen play writer. The twice at the end will give hart-attack. But two upset me. One is after knowing.identifying the reason Pramod did not express the "schock ". Second is Pramod is equally guilt, he also should take same path as Vinod. From Daughter's perspective directory decided the clean end or finish, but from father's perspective, Pramod is feeling the guilt by seeing Vinod in mirror and he didn't follow Vinod, this upset me. As father Pramod didnt do his duty as well directory didnt show Pramod punishment.

Malayalam Incendies
athulbiju9 March 2023
The making is excellent, but it appears that the makers watched Incendies and made the story around it. The story line is gripping, but once Joju takes over investigation, everything solves itself too easily, to reveal the climax inspired from Canadian movie Incendies. Joju shines as both the good and the bad cop, and has plenty of opportunity to bring out his acting chops. Most of the other actors do not have much scope to perform, but see through their roles without issues. A good start by the debutant director who manages to keep the investigation edgy till the last half an hour, and kudos to the makers as well for bringing this to life.
