As Easter draws closer, The Chosen franchise is looking to capitalize on the holiday with a massive box office performance. The fifth season of the biblical television show is now being screened in its entirety in theaters, in three separate installments. The first two chapters — The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 1 and The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 2 — have grossed a combined total of almost $30 million, and have successfully pushed the franchise past an unprecedented milestone. This number will only increase by next week, when all three parts will be available to watch either separately or together.
Last Supper - Part 1 has grossed almost $19 million so far, while Last Supper - Part 2, which debuted a week later, has now hit the $10 million mark. Combined, the franchise’s domestic box office haul has now passed the $100 million mark. This is an incredible result for what is still, primarily, a TV show.

It's all building towards a mid-April event where audiences can binge on the entire fifth season of The Chosen in theaters. Two batches of episodes have already been released, with the third and final installment lined up for Friday. This week, The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 2 scored a top five debut on the domestic box office charts, following in the footsteps of The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 1, which has now emerged as the franchise's top-grossing installment. The Chosen series began debuting episodes theatrically in 2021, and has since proven that this is a viable release model that other television shows might want to consider.
Last Supper - Part 1 generated around $11 million in its first three days of release, and entered its second weekend with $15 million in the bank. Including the revenue that it generated in its sophomore frame, Last Supper - Part 1 has grossed a total of $18 million so far,...

While A Minecraft Movie will dominate all box office-related headlines this week, the surprise performer, for the second time in a row, is The Chosen. Following the remarkable performance of The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 1 last week, The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 2 also delivered a top five finish on the domestic box office charts. It didn’t quite replicate the performance of its immediate predecessor, but set the stage for what could be a massive Easter weekend for the franchise, with Part 3 lined up for release next week. Before the third installment is released in theaters, however, the franchise will have passed the coveted $100 million mark in combined revenue.
Created byDallas Jenkins, The Chosen series began rolling out episodes in theatrical installments in 2021, with Christmas with the Chosen: The Messengers grossing around $13 million domestically. The third season generated a combined total of around $30 million, while the fourth season made around $40 million in total.

Hot off the success of the fifth season's first batch of episodes, The Chosen series unveiled its second installment in theaters this week. The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 2 debuted a week after Part 1, which exceeded expectations at the box office following phenomenal audience response. The biblical series typically debuts new episodes in theatrical installments before making them available for viewing on the small screen. Part 1 of the fifth season has generated over $15 million across its one-week run, paving the way for Part 2 and Part 3 to build on the momentum, and potentially deliver massive results on Easter weekend.
Like Part 1, the second batch of episodes opened to positive audience reviews. Part 2holds a near-perfect 99% audience score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The latest installment of The Chosen series pulled off a surprise performance at the box office during its debut weekend. The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 1 is the title under which Fathom Events is distributing the faith-based franchise's first batch of episodes of the fifth season. The franchise has now passed a major milestone, proving that television can find an audience in cinemas, provided it's marketed correctly. The core audience for The Chosenshowed up in droves this weekend as the first batch of episodes debuted in over 2,200 theaters.

Faith-based movies have a dedicated audience that shows up regardless of mainstream response. Even though the recent biblical movie The Last Supper wasn't exactly given a super-wide release, and even though it still doesn't have enough reviews on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes to generate an official score, it has quietly crossed a domestic box office milestone in just its second weekend in theaters. The Last Supper debuted last week, alongside Steven Soderbergh's espionage thriller Black Bag, the action comedy Novocaine, and the animated film The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
It retained a spot in the top 10 of the domestic box office charts, grossing $1.3 million this weekend from just over 1,500 locations. The Last Supper witnessed a noticeable 62% drop in collections, but has now hit the $5 million mark domestically. In its biggest year and fresh off last weekend’s release of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, faith-based content creator Kingdom Story Company has renewed its three-year first-look deal with Lionsgsate.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever opened on November 8 and had grossed $11.1m at time of writing, rising to $12.4m over the four-day Veterans Day weekend.
Additionally, Kingdom Story Company said it has promoted president and COO Brandon Gregory to partner.

The opening seconds of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” inform us that the Herdmans are the worst children ever because they steal, take the Lord’s name in vain, and smoke cigars — even the girls, the narrator is careful to specify. Nobody can accuse Dallas Jenkins’ new faith-based holiday film of misleading its viewers. If you’re not the kind of audience member to get invested in a redemption arc about the evils of female tobacco use and saying “Oh my god,” you can turn it off without losing much more than a minute of your time.
Those who proceed at their own risk are left with a paper-thin (if well meaning) story of a small town holiday Christmas pageant that threatens to go off the rails. Anyone who is curious about whether or not that happens should avoid reading the film’s title, which spoils the entire ending.

Dave Bautista's latest film The Killer's Game proves he can carry and lead action flicks. However, the film did not perform to expectations on its opening weekend at the box office.
Deadline reported The Killer's Game as one of this weekend's box-office casualties. Dave Bautista's action comedy earned $2.6 million in three days of screenings, setting a new record as the lowest-grossing theatrical film in the actor's career (beating Hotel Artemis' $3.2 million in 2018). Early reviews for The Killer's Game are also mixed with polarized consensus between audiences and critics. The report also revealed that casual and frequent moviegoers were largely unaware (and did not anticipate) the film's theatrical release, which in turn reflected in its first-weekend earnings. The Killer's Game reportedly has a budget of less than $30 million before marketing.

Another lively debate comes to theaters with God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust. For the past decade, the God’s Not Dead films have discussed where people draw lines between faith and politics. This latest entry continues tackling topics close to many hearts.
We find humble pastor David Hill taking an unlikely step into the world of campaigning. When a seat in Congress opens up just weeks before the election, David surprises even himself by running. He aims to challenge incumbent Peter Kane, who wants faith confined to private life.
The story plays out amid familiar themes of Christians finding their voice. David navigates strategy meetings and televised showdowns, navigating pressure both to compromise principles and avoid partisan sniping. Lively discussions are guaranteed as viewpoints clash on Christianity’s role in lawmaking.
For anyone interested in timely debates over pluralism, civic duties, or where people turn for guidance, this movie presents energetic dialog.

“God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust” (Fathom) and “Am I Racist?” (Sdg) won’t register with most mainstream moviegoers, but this weekend they could rank as high as #3 and #4 (in either order), behind “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (Warner Bros.) and the debuting “Speak No Evil” (Universal). Also in the mix are Lionsgate’s new “The Killer’s Game” and the 8th weekend of “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
Of these, guess which two are top candidates for receiving the rare A+ Cinemascore.
There’s a history of lucrative performances for similar films that appeal to conservative faith-based or Maga-related audiences (which frequently overlap). The progressive side has its analogs, particularly in Michael Moore documentaries, but for the last decade or more nearly all the preach-to-the-choir breakthroughs come from the right wing of the ideological spectrum.

The fifth film in the God's Not Dead franchise is here, and there are options for where to watch God's Not Dead: In God We Trust. The original faith-based movie series began in 2014 and was met with a rather impressive box office performance, as it earned over $60 million thanks to strong support from Christian viewers, even as critics negatively reviewed it. That propelled more Christian movies to be made that continue the story of Reverend Dave Hill, played by David A. R. White, a pastor now running for Congress in God's Not Dead: In God We Trust.
Although the box office performance of the God's Not Dead movies has declined with each entry, God's Not Dead: In God We Trust still has an exclusive theatrical release as a means to try and get enough support from audiences. Omg, have you ever seen "The Simpsons" episode "Dead Bart"? It's gotta be one of the weirdest episodes of the classic animated sitcom ever made! In this bizarre adventure for Springfield's famous family, the Simpsons take a trip that goes terribly wrong. While on a plane in mid-flight, Bart smashes a window and is sucked outside, falling to his death. It's graphic, and tragic, and terrible. The rest of the episode descends into morbid surrealism, with a large chunk of the runtime devoted to the Simpson family visiting Bart's grave in what appears to be a completely deserted version of Springfield.
What's that? You've never seen this? Well, that's because it doesn't exist. "Dead Bart" is a myth; a bit of internet folklore. In technical terms, it's creepypasta. Creepypastas are horror-tinged urban legends and short stories that get shared on message boards and Reddit. Some of these stories can be downright dreadful,...

A new faith-based film fund has been set up by former Im Global executive Alexandros Potter and filmmaker Yelena Popovic, behind the hugely successful 2021 drama “Man of God,” about the Greek saint Nectarios of Aegina.
Simeon Faith, one of a number of new announcements in the faith-based film world in recent months, is a dedicated equity film fund focused on financing and producing what it describes as “talent-driven, high-end artistic and commercial fare with strong elements of faith for a global audience.”
The new fund aims to finance one to two films per year over the next four years. The first project on the slate is “Moses the Black,” a story of a gangster in modern day Chicago that is inspired by the fourth-century saint of the same name. The film is scheduled to go into production this year, with Popovic as writer and director.

As absurd as it is to say about a film that ends with an onscreen Qr code imploring viewers to “Pay It Forward,” “Sight” probably would be better if it was preachier. At the very least, it would be more memorable.
The latest project from Angel Studios, “Sight” certainly looks and feels like the type of cheap contemporary Christian cinema that both its production company and its director specialize in. But whenever the movie looks like it might go full Christian medical drama a la the inexplicably Oscar-nominated “Breakthrough,” it always pulls back from launching into a sermon. Sure, there’s a kindly nun and an unbearable syrupy sweet church scene, but by the end of “Sight,” it’s not particularly clear how devout main character Ming Wang is to Christianity, or if he’s even a believer in the first place.

Pinnacle Peak Pictures is bringing a slate of faith-based films to the Cannes market, including a new installment in the “God’s Not Dead” franchise.
Entitled “God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust,” the film will be released theatrically in the U.S. this fall, but, like the rest of Pinnacle’s slate, foreign territories are available to buyers. The new “God’s Not Dead” film follows the series’ protagonist, Rev. David Hill (played once again by David A.R. White), who, with the help of a skilled political strategist, runs for political office on a platform of preserving “religious freedom” and healing divisions. The cast also includes Dean Cain, who appeared in the first film in the franchise and is best known for “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” as well as Isaiah Washington (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Ray Wise (“X-Men: First Class”).

Family ties and deep religious faith play an emotional tug of war with issues of infidelity and self-confidence in The Baxters. Touched by an Angel star Roma Downey feels the new faith-based series, in which she stars and is executive producer, couldn’t arrive at a better time.
“At the center [of the story] is this marriage that is loving and committed, and you know, we don't always get to see that on family dramas,” Downey told MovieWeb. “Just to see marriage modeled that way — they're the glue that holds the messiness of the family together.”
Things do get messy, in fact, and early on. The first season tracks the aftermath of Baxter daughter Kari’s (Ali Cobrin) startling discovery — her professor husband, Tim (Brandon Hirsch), has been having an affair with one of his students. Based on the No.1 New York Times best-selling book series by Karen Kingsbury, a prolific author who...

It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

"The Simpsons" will turn 35 in 2024 -- and like just about any other Millennial, it celebrated becoming a legal adult (with "The Simpsons Movie" in 2007) blissfully unaware of the obstacles awaiting in its future, had a proper quarter-life crisis, and now Disney owns its childhood. Entire empires have risen and fallen since the series began in 1989, and a whole lot of TV shows with them. In point of fact, when the animated institution turned 20 in 2009, a fellow Fox series called "Bones" was only just entering its fifth season, with no idea it was less than halfway done.
To celebrate the occasion, Fox announced it would be paying "homarge" to "The Simpsons" with an on-air scavenger hunt from November 9 -13, 2009. Never one to pass up an opportunity to goose its ratings, the network encouraged its viewers to tune into other Fox series that week and hunt for Easter eggs nodding to Homer,...

In April 2023, the independent horror flick Nefarious earned just over a million dollars and placed tenth at the box office on its opening weekend. The movie hit theaters around the same time as other horror movies like The Pope's Exorcist, Evil Dead Rise, Scream IV, and Renfield; and with such stiff competition, it's impressive that this low-budget indie movie did so well. The picture, which is currently in Amzone Prime Video's Top 10 most popular movies, is based on a two-book series by Steve Deace and was written and directed by Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon (the duo behind God's Not Dead and Unplanned). But despite the film's distinctly Christian label, Nefarious rises above the general clichés associated with faith-based productions and stands out as something increasingly more interesting than its religious contemporaries.

When an independent film becomes as commercially successful as Sound of Freedom, which has presently grossed nearly $215 million at the worldwide box office against a production cost of less than $15 million, the film’s director and star typically become hot properties in Hollywood.
Indeed, in the case of Sound of Freedom, it would be reasonable to assume that the film’s director, Alejandro Monteverde, and star, Jim Caviezel, would be courted by various Hollywood studios to direct and star in big-budget studio films.
However, none of the typical rules of Hollywood seem to apply to Sound of Freedom, which has seemingly had a negligible effect on the careers of the film’s principals, especially Caviezel, for whom the success of Sound of Freedom has, if anything, only exacerbated Caviezel’s prolonged estrangement from Hollywood.

Despite flopping pretty hard at the box office, Disney's second go at turning its classic Haunted Mansion ride into a successful film managed to only further cement Lakeith Stanfield's status as our current genre king. Think about it: be it horror satire ("Get Out"), murder-mystery ("Knives Out"), or supernatural crime-thriller, it seems Stanfield is committed to turning over every genre stone there is. He's even tried his hand at a Western, playing the real-life outlaw Crawford "Cherokee Bill" Goldsby in Jeymes Samuel's profoundly entertaining "The Harder They Fall."
"The Book of Clarence," Samuel's follow-up to his feature directing debut on "The Harder They Fall," sees him and Stanfield putting their stamp on another historically white genre: the Biblical epic. The film, which was even name-checked by Jim Beckwourth (Rj Cyler) in "Harder," casts Stanfield as Clarence, a regular guy in ancient times who just happens to know Jesus Christ.
