- Bailey warns April about a patient named Mr. Linzer, who will pretend to be fine because he wants to leave the hospital. April first suggests she's going to let her intern watch him and another patient, Mrs. Gelman, but Bailey bristles at this. April assures her she'll watch the patients herself. Bailey is headed out for her honeymoon.
Alex introduces his intern, Jo, to Leftkowitz a young boy who has gastroparisis, which means he can't really digest his food. Alex assures the kid and his parents that he's "got a crack team" taking care of him.
Bailey doesn't like Callie's teasing humming of "Here's Comes the Bride." Bailey tells Callie that when she and Arizona get to the wedding they should not sit down and stand at the front. Callie realizes that Bailey was trying to say without saying it that she wants them to be her bridesmaids.
Jackson is explaining to Derek's sister, Lizzy, the process of her nerve transplant surgery. Derek wants to make absolutely sure that she's OK with this because she's told him forever that he ruined her life. Lizzy signs the release and asks if she can go see Zola in day care, but Meredith tells her they don't let the adults come and go because it's hard on the kids. Derek sees his sister is bummed at this and says he'll bring Zola to come see her later, and kisses Lizzy on the head.
Meredith leaves and Bailey catches her in the hallway, also telling her not to sit down when she gets to the wedding. Meredith has no response.
Hunt tells Cristina that the divorce lawyers sent over paperwork that needs signing. Cristina seems surprised at how quickly it's going.
Meredith visits an OB-GYN and Derek is with her. He wants to tell Lizzie, but Meredith doesn't want to tell anyone including Cristina about her pregnancy until she's sure things are going well. The ultrasound allows them to see the baby and hear the heartbeat, but Meredith doesn't smile. She turns away.
Callie tells Bailey that she and Arizona both have red dresses and it will be "super cute." Bailey doesn't seem too excited because they're going to be married, but still living in different cities with her working many hours. Callie tells her she should leave Ben at the altar if she's that worried about it because it's "a clean break." She says she's kidding, but Bailey is stunned.
Alex walks Jo through the steps of what they're going to do in surgery and that he's going to let her take down the adhesions. She asks if it's because she told him about her messed-up upbringing.
"Oh, yeah, because I feel so bad you were a dumpster-diving orphan I'm going to let you hack up a 10-year-old," Alex says.
"Sorry," she replies. "Stupid."
"You think?" Alex says.
Meredith starts to tell Cristina, but then stops herself.
In the skills lab, the other interns are asking Jo is Alex is into her now because he's letting her take down the adhesions. Arizona comes in and Leah tells Arizona about what Jo is preparing to do. Arizona, too, seems surprised. He gives Jo a tip on how to do it, and then asks if she's sure she's ready for it. After Arizona leaves, Leah tells Heather, "Yup, he's into her."
April tells Bailey she should maybe skip the wedding and Bailey dramatically runs through April's emotional vulnerability, telling April she thinks she's going to get lost in her feelings at the wedding because she's just broken up with Jackson and end up back with him. April almost cries and tells Bailey she knew she'd understand. Bailey tells her to suck it up.
"If I have to go, you have to go," Bailey says.
Jackson goes over a scan and says Lizzy's calves are a little shorter than expected. The solution would be to take some nerve from her other leg, but Derek rejects this and says they need to find another donor. He angrily tells them to cancel the procedure.
April finds Jackson and tells him to bring a date to Bailey's wedding so they can be focused on their dates and not each other. She tells him he's wearing a strapless dress. Jackson says he can't find a date with one day's notice. April asks Stephanie, the intern, if she'd like to go to Bailey's wedding with Jackson, who tries to resist this idea. But April reminds him her dress will be "strapless and tight." Jackson tells Stephanie he'll pick her up in the locker room at 1 in the afternoon. Stephanie leaves, wondering what just happened. Jackson, in turn, wants to pick April's date and thinks Shane, another intern, is a solid candidate.
Lizzy is surprised to learn her calves are too short. She tells Meredith it's fine, and Meredith tells her Derek thinks it's too much so if he tries to talk her out of it she has to be forceful. Lizzy tells Meredith she's "got some balls," asking for body parts after not even having a wedding and sending just a couple of pictures of Zola over email. She tells Meredith that they're family, but she basically isn't feeling much of the love. Meredith says her version of family is different than theirs and Lizzy brings up Lexie. Meredith doesn't want to talk about Lexie. Lizzy tells Meredith that she, of all people, should realize "you need spares in a family you need as many as you can get." Meredith tells Lizzy it was "very nice" to talk with her, and leaves.
Alex tells Jackson he's bringing a flask in case the wedding gets boring. Jackson tells him he's bringing a date and could try to find one for Alex. Alex hates this idea, but tells Avery just to make sure he doesn't find someone ugly.
Lizzy tells Derek she's doing the procedure and tells him to "just say thank you."
In surgery, Jo is removing the adhesions and it's going well for a moment, but she accidentally cuts a hole in the boy's stomach and Alex has to move her out of the way.
Jackson goes to Stephanie and explains that he has to find a date for the guy he was going to go with.
Jo freezes in the O.R. and Alex yells at her to leave.
Arizona is worried about the fact that she can't wear heels to Bailey's wedding. Callie jokes around about it a bit until Arizona asks her to at least acknowledge that she knows what she's talking about. Callie gets serious and tries to make Arizona feel better. She smiles, and as they go to sleep, Arizona turns and still looks concerned.
In bed, Meredith asks Derek if he's still mad at her for going to Lizzy. He says he's "medium." She says she just wants him to be better so they can put the whole plane crash behind them. Derek tells her the lawyer called and said they have a strong case, "especially now that Cristina and Owen are getting divorced." Meredith asks what that has to do with anything, and Derek tells her about the conflict of interest if Hunt is married to one of the plaintiffs. Meredith wonders why Cristina didn't tell her that. Derek reminds her that she didn't tell Cristina about the pregnancy and adds, "Maybe things are different now."
Bailey is at work the morning of her wedding and everyone is surprised to see her.
Jo is outside telling Stepahnie how upset she is about the surgery. Stephanie asks Jo if she'll go with her and Jackson, and Jackson's "friend" to the wedding. Stephanie doesn't know it's Alex.
Cristina and Hunt get a gunshot wound patient. Cristina is going to have to work on the man's heart, but Hunt says there's a bullet in the stomach in the abdomen. He says he can do it or he can call someone else. Cristina tells him he can do it, adding, "amicable, right?"
Webber asks Bailey if she wants to scrub in on a quick surgery that should take the edge off before the wedding. Ben shows up and Bailey tells him about the surgery. Ben tells her that he called Webber to suggest it, knowing it would help her. Webber tells her he'll see her in the O.R. Ben leaves and says, "I'll see you at the altar." Bailey freezes at this.
Jo goes and admits to Arizona that she messed up her procedure. Jo tells Alex that she doesn't think he had any business having an intern do what she did. Arizona gets serious and asks, "What exactly are you saying about your attending?"
Cristina tells Meredith that she's scrubbing in with Hunt, who wants to sign their divorce papers. Meredith asks her why she didn't tell her that the divorce was because of the plane crash lawsuit. Cristina says she didn't know. Hunt comes over and asks Cristina if she's ready for their surgery and she says nothing.
Stephanie tells Shane that Jackson asked her to the wedding, and Shane tells her that April asked him, but he didn't realize it was a date. He thought it was "getting to know the interns in a casual, stress-free environment."
"That was the free donuts thing in the lounge," she says. "This is a wedding."
Shane says he can't go on a date with his boss instead of getting "wrapped up in the ladies."
Arizona confronts Alex, who tells her the patient is going to be fine. Arizona says Jo thinks Alex dumped her into a dangerous procedure to take the fall. Alex says he was standing there to take over if it got hairy. He tells her he's trying to be like Arizona, who let her "try crap" so he'd get confidence in himself. She reminds him she gave him opportunities, but also encouragement and support. "I didn't drop kick you into the deep end of the pool and yell, 'Swim, idiot.' You're a teacher now your students fail, you fail."
Bailey is a nervous wreck, dropping case files. Webber sees this and she asks him if he was "like this." She says that if it goes well in 10 years, she'll think of this moment as "cold feet." If they're in the midst of a divorce, she'll think she knew it was a mistake the day they got married. Webber tells her "a little bit of doubt is just a sign of an intelligent adult."
Callie preps Derek and tells him to close his eye, enjoy his nap and he's "got nothing to worry about."
Meredith, meanwhile, is watching from the gallery and telling Jackson that she's going to be watching. "No mistakes," she says. Jackson knocks over a tray of tools and tells Stephanie to "get that woman out of my gallery." Stephanie doesn't want to, but Jackson tells her, "Now." Meredith says over the intercom that she wouldn't dare, but Stephanie seems to be headed toward Meredith.
Alex confronts Jo about how she "narced" on him to his boss. She says she worked hard to get there and isn't going to let herself get fired. Alex tells her she can't go crying to his boss every time she gets scared. He tells her she can't cry at all when she gets scared "because it's scary in there all the time." She says she thought that after she blew the appie, she'd be a good target if she messed this up. She says she gets that it's paranoid and adds that she doesn't always trust people who try to help her. Alex mocks this and says "yeah, yeah, you're a beaten dog and you bite people who try to feed you. I don't give a crap about your sad story." He tells her to "get the hell over it," and tells her she "burned a bridge" with her and she should grow up before she burns a bridge with every other attending she might work with.
Jackson brings over 50 centimeters of prime nerve for Derek's hand.
In surgery, Cristina is harsh and cold to the nurse and Hunt. Afterward, Hunt asks Cristina what that was about and she tells him she didn't know they were getting divorced because of the lawsuit. Hunt says he wants her and the others to get the money. They argue about her going to Minnesota and she says he's "hiding behind the lawsuit," but Hunt finally says he picked the airline. He explains that he had to make a budget cut and went with a cheaper airline. Cristina tells him he's not responsible, but Hunt insists that a lot of people made a lot of small decisions that made that plane take off with her and the others in it, and he was one of them.
Cue the music montage: Jackson puts on his tie; Meredith gets her dress; Alex puts on his coat; April puts on her earrings and glances back at Jackson; Cristina sits stoically until Meredith extends her write for help putting on a bracelet; Stephanie tries to curl her eyelashes in a mirror while Shane shines his shoes.
Meredith gives Derek a kiss. He's in a hospital bed and Meredith tells him Callie said it couldn't have gone better. Before she leaves, Derek pulls her close and says, "It may have worked." They both smile.
Arizona puts on a flat-bottomed shoe and Callie loses it. She goes off on Arizona, telling her to "suck it up" and stop making everything about her leg. She says she's been supportive for months, and she also hasn't "had sex in five months because of the leg enough about the leg!" Arizona is stunned, says nothing, and puts the other flat on her prosthetic foot. Callie allows herself a little smile.
Meredith checks on Lizzy, who tells her she realizes she's pushy. She tells Meredith that she doesn't "have to want a truckload of Derek's sisters in (her) life." Meredith sits down, warning that she's "not very good at this," but she's willing to try. She makes Lizzy promise "not to blab it to the whole family." She hands over her ultrasound picture. Lizzy is happy.
Bailey is making her way to her car, which she wanted to drive herself in her wedding dress, when a limo pulls up. Webber steps out. Bailey smiles.
Jackson and Alex show up to the locker room and Stephanie looks all nice and dressed up. A crabby Alex asks, "So, did she bring her friend, or what?" Jo steps out of the restroom and Alex says, "Oh, c'mon." Jo also looks none too pleased, asking Stephanie, "He's the guy?"
Hunt puts on his coast and Cristina comes to see him. She asks if the lawsuit was the only reason he asked for a divorce. He says, "There were many reasons." He says, "You were done a long time ago."
"I'm asking about you," she says. Hunt says nothing.
"Let me put it another way," she says. "I wanted to try again. I was going to ask you if we could try again, and you said, 'I want a divorce.'"
Hunt attacks her in a good way. They kiss all passionately.
We cut to Webber and Bailey in the back of the limo. Webber gets a phone call from the hospital saying Adele just arrived there. The paramedics brought her and she's vomiting blood. Bailey orders the limo driver to turn around and take them to Seattle Grace Hospital.
The crowd is gathered at the wedding.
We see Webber catch up to Adele, who is still vomiting blood. Webber wants to work on her himself, but the other doctor orders him to step away. Bailey, in her wedding dress, says she'll do it. She has the nurses take her dress off and gets everything ready.
Back at the wedding, Callie admits to Arizona and Meredith that she may have "by mistake, said that if she had any doubts she should leave." Callie says she was joking and Bailey was nervous.
"How nervous?" asks Ben, who overheard this.
Everyone turns to look at him.
"How nervous was she, Callie?" he asks again. No response.
Bailey is still working on Adele. As we watch Bailey cart Adele toward an O.R., voiceover Meredith tells us that "the body doesn't know the difference between nerves and excitement, panic and doubt, the beginning and the end. The body just tells you to get the hell out.
"Sometimes you ignore it that's the reasonable thing to do but sometimes you listen. You're supposed to trust your gut, right?"
We see Bailey's dress on a cart next to the bloody sheets from Adele's emergency hospital bed as voiceover Meredith adds, "When your body says run, run."
