Needed one more episode
ikanboy30 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's a well drawn out story about a murderer (excuse me Manslaughterer according to the court) who killed her patients and then tried to revive them to earn Kudos. A naif figures it out while her seasoned companions look the other way.

It not only succeeds in making hospitals look risky for very ill patients, but for those who are just ill.

The perpetrator's motive is left unsaid, and the last episode doesn't get to the point until the end and we are missing the trial which "explains" her motive of the murders. The larger stories: how does a system look the other way? How does a mass murderer only get 12 years?

Are left hanging.

Serial killer nurse with schizophrenia is different from The Good Nurse.
folk_egm29 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Nurse The 4-episode original Netflix series is based on the true story of Denmark's most notorious serial killing case. The story begins in early March 2015 when Danish police received a call from a nurse at Nykøbing Falster Hospital, who suspected that her colleague had killed three patients. There were indications that the colleague had been involved in a series of killings before, targeting multiple victims.

Overall, this series tells the story of a chilling case well, but wastes time on setting up the characters' work lives in the early parts. It gets more exciting in the second half. Compared to "The Good Nurse," it's not as concise, but they're different cases with differing levels of detail on the killings and motivations. Despite their differences, they share many similarities and are both worth watching, especially for those who enjoy a continuous killer genre.

Guaranteed to offend again
edwin-wks8 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It beggars belief that her sentence was commuted to 12 years for manslaughter instead of murder because they were not convinced that the victims died solely because of the actions of Christina Hansen. Regardless of whether the deceased patients were old and frail, their deaths were brought forward by Hansen who craved the thrill of resuscitating the patients and the "aw shucks, you did your best" when they did not make it.

The woman was diagnosed with histrionic personality disorder, but she is also extremely narcissistic (her needs matter more than the rights of others) and anti-social (she will go to extreme lengths to get her needs met, even if unlawful). The 12-year sentence means that she will be let out into the Danish community in 2028 at the age of 44. People like her cannot be rehabilitated. She can be counted on to damage more people and commit more crimes to satisfy her insatiable appetite for attention, adulation and affection.

One could regard her with empathy for she was most likely the victim of an exceedingly emotionally deprived childhood. Her psychopathology is her life sentence. But it does not help the families of the countless victims who died so that she could get her five minutes of fame. I can understand why some reviews thought that the series could have depicted the trial of Hansen. With the sentence reduction, it would have ultimately been anti-climatic. Four episodes were enough, and the final episode was especially well done in conveying the tension and suspense.

Average at best
rosscohen-0856830 April 2023
A true story of a nurse that kills patients by giving them drugs. If it sounds familiar it's because you've seen It before on a different Netflix series. There's a few differences, but it's a familiar story.

The acting is mediocre, the dubbing is poor, and it's a little slow. It's predictable, and boring at times but it's worth a watch if you've exhausted all other options and have a few hours to kill. Some reviews gave it 10/10 and some didn't like it at all but I found it to be average or a bit below.

The fact that it's factual is what kept me going. It was hard to understand the fact that the nurses at the hospital had unlimited access to the medicine room and they didn't keep track of the drugs. They'd never do this in the US, not with all the pill poppers in the world.

it could have been a lot shorter *Spoiler Alert*
mymoodz2 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It started out good, but went down the drain as it progressed. It should not have been extended into four episodes. A single one hour movie would have been better and more effective. Also, it was predictable. Too many deaths. Seemed like a lot of people dying by cardiac arrest in one of the shifts but the hospital did not care at all. The lax controls in the hospital were also surprising.

The last episode was very disappointing. The nurse was on a death spree and no one cared. Her arrest was also not as dramatic. Just a regular arrest. It did not look like the arrest of a main character.

And Why do you have to post a 600 word review when it could be a lot shorter?

Realistic and grey.
Guanche4811 May 2023
In general I liked the series, although despite the strong and serious theme they could have chosen a little more color in the photography and the characters, everything is very grey, a very sad color! . It's personal I suppose, but I have seen hospitals that are happier and full of flowers and joy for example.

I have never understood gossip between co-workers either, especially in a hospital, frustrating. The end of the series seemed quite rushed, and at the same time very exciting, it is the best of the series, the last 2 chapters, a lot of tension, and for that reason they could have given it a little more time and also explain the motive and the past of this psychopathic nurse.

Pernille, the nurse who discovers that something strange is happening in the hospital is a hero in my opinion, and I don't understand why the co-workers don't talk to her anymore, incomprehensible, did this really happen? Because the series is very realistic except for this, ridiculous, or are the Danes so cold and stupid? I don't think so. And let's not forget the doctor who helps her!

As you can see, my review is a mixture of positives and negatives. I recommend it because it is a true story, well told, realistic, and has very exciting moments.

All the time on the edge of my chair
stridbhk27 April 2023
As I don't like long series, I just only go for the 3 or 4 parts-series. In the beginning you don't know who is de bad nurse, it just unfolds.. and then.. how do you get to the arrest? It's a extreme difficult situation, as no colleague wants to listen to a bad story about a so-called well-skilled nurse. The difficulties the whistleblower had to go through, are unimaginable. The story line with some personal, family issues in between, is very entertaining, in a real life sense. The filming is still very easy to watch, still nerve wrecking. That the 'good nurse' pulled the thing through is a big miracle, and she is a hero.

Heart Massage Master
jack_o_hasanov_imdb28 May 2023
I was actually surprised at myself for not liking this series. Because I thought I would love a Danish production, Scandinavian film atmosphere and a slow-moving series. But I didn't like it and I got bored. While I like slow-paced movies, this mini series was too slow. I think it could have shot better. Acting wasn't bad. Of course, I don't know how good the acting is, as I don't speak Danish, but it think it is okay. The series was so boring that I didn't care that it was adapted from real events, that these events actually happened. So, I haven't done any research on these events. It didn't interest me. But the truth is that this event will remain a black mark in Danish history.

I had shivers through and through.Top-notch Acting ensemble
purseofglitters28 April 2023
What a powerful dramatization of an actual heinous series of acts. ! As found myself glued to the screen early on. Soon after came the shivers. At one point I seriously felt shakes, stomach churning and by the last scene, and ears came falling quietly down my cheeks That's how compelling writing, directing, acting. I binged entire season in one sit. Though it has been a week since it is fair to say the show still has me in its grip.

Acting performances are way above par. I saw a bit of me and bits of my friends in Christina and Pernille. I had a close friend that not only looked exactly like Christina but also bore same personality, behavioural patterns of her as well. So , retrospectively speaking , on a personal level, it was poignant experience to revisit my memories of her through Christina. Character-building is deep, multi-layered, meticulously written. Don't miss out this compelling thriller/biographical drama brought to you by trusted Danish excellence:)

Tense unbelievable true story
Mikecizi12312 May 2023
The negative reviews are nuts as usual from people who don't get decent tv. Well acted, tense, doesn't go for mainstream twisting of the truth. One of the few decent programmes on netflix. People who say it was bad acting, mention the smoking scene, and that hospitals aren't like this need to get in touch with real life. They snuck the cigs and alcohol in to the hospital, it was a notoriously bad hospital anyway in a rough area, and the acting was excellent. It's a little slow in places, but a terrible true story told better than a lot of the rubbish around these days. Watch it and wonder how this could have gone on for so long.

First
Headturner1129 April 2023
Few episodes I thought it was pretty good( even tho there are many real life cases out there. I don't know exactly how the medical system works in Denmark but the medication dispensation needs to be more regulated. I didn't like the Penile character. I was almost convinced she was the culprit and I don't know if that was due to poor acting or what?!? Great only 240 characters left with not much more to say then the first couple episodes were good then the last few were rather boring in comparison and could have been more detailed which is why I thought Penile was suspect because she acted so shady throughout! Ok . Nothing extrordinary.

Slow and too little info about trial
michaelrye-396893 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Since it was based on a roughly known story it was slow and predictable. The beginning was fine, but there were a long period of the same worries and problems and none of these were followed up on. At one point Christinas ex husbond mentioned her childs illnesses but nothing further on this (munchen by proxy?). The end did nothing to show if there were evidence against Christina at all. Also it does not show if the brother who said thank you gets his story revisited. A lot of questions remain and basically all the show does is show the medias overall story. It would have been nice to get more details about the trial and what was submitted as evidence.

Some great Danish acting
Ulimaroa28 December 2023
Great acting!

Josephine Park and Fanny Louise Bernth were excellent together.

Being a nurse I can't believe there was no register of what drugs were being taken. Knowing how strict it is where I work, it's astonishing. We only have to accidentally drop a diazepam on the floor and we are on our hands and knees frantically looking for it. I'm sure this has changed in Denmark.

The only real negative that I found was that it sort of dragged on a bit until the last 20 or so minutes in the last episode and it all sort of wrapped up and was finished. It's based on a true story, which always gives an element of shock when such horrifying stories are told. There's a few psychopathic nurse stories and this was is an enjoyable watch.

A Real life crime story told in four episodes
fchhskgv5 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Don't believe the bad reviews. This series was one of the best I've seen in awhile. The acting was top notch and the storyline kept me on the edge of my seat for all four episodes. All the characters are relatable especially the "bad nurse"which is what made this story feel so real. I did give it a nine instead of a ten because it seemed a bit rushed in the end but that might of been the idea at only four episodes. It could of been longer but didn't need to be. All in all a solid series but I don't know how close it is to the real life story, either way it's devastating so many lives lost that could of been saved sooner very sad.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil...
My2Centz12 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
...is for good men to do nothing, and The Nurse provides a powerful reminder of just how true that is.

The Nurse is an incredibly well done limited series depicting the true story of not only a disturbed woman who committed multiple murders, but also a failed system that remained broken far too long because of the silence of others. If Pernille Kurzmann Lundén was reprimanded by a superior for voicing her suspicions as shown in episode 2, that's another serious matter that the hospital administrators should address. Every entity that involves a group of people working together should make it safe for employees to alert someone in authority of potentially criminal or harmful behavior. This series begs the questions, what has happened to civilized societies that integrity has become the exception rather than the rule, and blowing the whistle feared rather than expected? Pernille's integrity took tremendous courage, which unfortunately is all too often the case.

The injustice of Christina Aistrup's stunningly inadequate 12 year sentence is a slap in the face to her victims and their families. As others have mentioned, Christina may have had childhood trauma that contributed to her psychological problems, and she should be treated if that's the case, but millions have suffered through every imaginable childhood abuse, and yet don't resort to Christina's level of nefarious attention seeking. Christina was not given anywhere near the consequences she deserved, even if the deaths couldn't be linked with 100% certainty to her actions, what she did was unconscionable. If one of the victims had been a child/spouse/parent of someone on the higher court it's doubtful the same opinion would be held. The Nurse series doesn't get bogged down with frivolous filler but delivers a suspenseful story by talented actors that was over too quickly and left me wanting to know more, enough so that I want to read the book, which is the best there is to say about any program. Definitely worth the watch.

An accurate representation of what actually happened
runebagge25 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was skeptical about it due to the reviews, but as a Dane who followed the case pretty closely during the trial and afterwards. It's not exaggerated for spicing up the action or suspense, it does a great job keeping the story to how it actually was. The disbelief from the colleagues and the hospital management, and the treatment of the relatives of the victims was played quite a bit down. The alienation of her at the hospital was and still is unfortunately something she'll deal with on a day to day basis, and she should've gotten a damn medal for her heroism. Cause it would just get worse and worse over time, and I'm actually glad she wasn't in some of the bigger hospitals in the country because she'd most like would never had been caught, or caught way too late. As a family member of one of her early victims, I'm grateful for her and what she did. The show did an excellent job and hopefully they will change their system so it doesn't happens again.

Eh?
RachelMary24 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a frustrating watch. Aside from being yet another Netflix series that was twice as long as it should have been, there were so many illogical or nonsensical bits which added up to a very exasperating watch.

I'm not familiar with the Danish healthcare system, but given Netflix is an international platform a lot of context was missing. For an ER, not a lot seemed to be going on. Except heart attacks. Why did no one question why everyone was dying of heart attacks and nothing else, especially heart attacks in non cardiac patients? Why are the patients in rooms by themselves? Why are the nurses ordering doctors about? Why is there a handwritten "death log" in the break room?!

The biggest frustration had to be when Arne died and the "logical" explanation for the drugs in his system was that he got up from his sick bed, entered the medicine room, knew and found the correct drugs, went back to his bed, administered them and then got rid of the vials, and then died. With no one seeing any of it. Surely, even if anyone was supposed to believe that, you then put safeguards in place so patients can't just help themselves to drugs when they feel like it? You don't just shrug your shoulders and think never mind and carry on exactly as before?!!!

I didn't understand why Pernille was shunned by her colleagues at the end. Surely you would shun your colleague who was killing people, not the one who stopped it? And why was she just going back to work heavily pregnant? What had she been doing for the intervening months (apart from making a baby)? And why not use your phone video to record Christine- if the concern was that no one would believe her if she reported her concerns to management why would they believe her when she claims to have witnessed it and produced evidence in a bin?!! Why couldn't she send an anonymous email- this was very recent history with modern technology available? The whole ending was rushed. It was like no one knew which character to focus on so we didn't get the whole story of any of them.

If this wasn't a true story I'd put these issues down to poor writing and editing. Maybe some of this was just really poor real-life practice and reflects the true events as they happened, maybe the producers took a lot of dramatic license because they needed four episodes? Either way, it made me that bit extra grateful for the beurocracy and safeguards that are annoying but essential to protect us...

The powerful, original dramatic detective story
saulyte123 December 2023
I don't watch series, only short ones. I watched the Danish medical thriller , the suspenseful The Nurse in one sitting, breathlessly. After the quarantines of the pandemic, this film is particularly shocking. Who do we trust with our lives in the emergency room? A thoughtful, expertly crafted, psychological thriller that tackles many contemporary social and moral dilemmas.

The Danish acting school is renowned for its talent. Fanny Louise and Josephine Park, a duo of two nurses nicknamed the "dream team" will not leave cinema lovers indifferent. It turns out that the battle between Good and Evil can take place in a tiny provincial ambulance service, at the bedside of a sick person. I was touched by the way the director showed the dramatic choice of Good in impossible circumstances.

The mini-series is based on a true story that took place in the Danish hospital Nykøbing Falster . It is incredible that for four whole years nobody noticed the crime there.

A perfect script and impressive direction. I'll have to watch it again when emotions have run over.

Well told real crime story
wisewebwoman22 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Brilliant acting and script but the ending was far too abrupt. Why on earth did she get such a short sentence with possibly over 20 murders committed?

It was the only shortfall in the portrayal of a slowly built up tension between a newbie nurse and and her supervisor, an emergency nurse with vast experience.

No one on staff realizes that the senior nurse is giving patients fatal injections in order to get the attention she craves when she performs CPR and sometimes save them.

Unfinished threads were the hospital's culpability in not logging drugs which wasn't addressed at all.

Heartbreaking was the way the rest of the staff at ICU cut her dead after she called the police on her supervisor.

It should have had another episode to answer questions.

8/10. Worth the watch though. English dubbing was great.

Get well soon (or not)
kosmasp15 June 2023
No pun intended - one does think that being in a hospital would help in getting better. But that does not seem to be always the case ... case in point here (another pun) ... and the show makes it clear from the beginning, that something is off. I mean yes the character that introduces us into the hospital and all that ... but it we do change pace and people. While staying within the frame of that first person we see ... which is a nice touch.

Strange things happen in the world - one can only hope that it does not happen to them. Because the business of helping people is about just that. And those who their job well (almost all of them), get so little credit that ... well it would be bad if you took the show and had too many misconceptions about them and health care in general ... of course the latter point depends on where in the world you live ... that's a different discussions of course.

A Simplistic and Silly Way to Tell a Story
qui_j30 April 2023
This is a rather poorly done Danish series that has so many production faults. No hospital would allow the lax control of medication, particularly Morphine, to be so accessible in a medication room. Smoking, drinking and lighting candles in hospital rooms, where oxygen is administered just seems really over the top. The scene where the adrenaline syringe drops on the ground and is picked up and handed to the doctor was laughable. The lead actress constantly walks around with a very confused, almost quizzical look on her face. The constant close ups of her face, to the point where the very pores on the skin of her nose, proved distracting. The episodes are stretched out, and the whole story could have been told in two parts, certainly not four. There was a lost of silly, trite dialogue inserted to fill the time slots. This isn't any type of Scandinavian Noir, it's more like a very watered down drama that was made solely to create streaming content.

Fortunately it was a short series
grahamf-555422 May 2023
Based on a true story but as a drama it had plenty of flaws. At the start it looked like it would be quite a good story but the writer kept quite close to what actually happened, and it left a very simplistic sequence of events.

By the end it felt like I'd watched a documentary, but acted out without any narration.

The family and relationship subplots were particularly weak and uninteresting. The acting was moderate, but the cast really didn't have much to help them.

Some extremely monotonous and repetitive sets. One I found especially annoying was how the protagonist almost always talked to her daughter in bed.

Disappointing, but at least it was short.

Book is much better than the show
manoj_rsb7 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As others have already mentioned, its based on true story and book by Kristian Corfixen and is a psychological thriller that revolves around Christina, a nurse who becomes entangled in a web of secrets and deception.

Christina gets caught when her colleagues become suspicious of her unusual behavior and as their suspicions grow they decide to investigate further and eventually catch her.

The show leans more towards entertainment rather than accurately representing facts and events. If you're keen on getting the real facts I highly recommend reading the book. The book provides a comprehensive and detailed account of everything making it a far more informative choice compared to the "made up" true story show.

I'll provide a summary below to give you a taste of its depth and encourage you to explore it further-

Motivation: Christina's motive for stealing medication and altering records stems from personal struggles. She faces financial difficulties and mounting debts which push her to make unethical choices to ease her financial burden.

The Web of Deception: As Christina continues her deceitful actions she becomes increasingly skilled at covering her tracks. She not only steals medication but also fabricates patient histories to justify her actions. This makes it difficult for her colleagues to initially catch on.

Suspicion Grows: Despite her efforts to maintain a facade of normalcy her colleagues start noticing unusual patterns. They become suspicious when patients conditions don't match her records and medications seem to go missing when she's on duty.

The Discovery: The turning point in the story comes when one of her coworkers stumbles upon concrete evidence like discovering hidden stashes of stolen medication or finding irrefutable proof of falsified records and a hidden folder on the hospital's computer system

Confrontation: Armed with this evidence the colleagues confront her and deception is unveile and she faces the consequences of her actions.

ITS A DRAMA SHOW NOT A SUSPENSE PURE DRAMA
aman0109198627 April 2023
I was craving for a suspense thriller and saw it on Netflix in the same category. But like my life i was again pit in front of unwanted things. Its a slow drama so slow even catterpillar will die reaching to the end. And yes there is no suspense from starting you will know who did what. Boring ! Avoid. There is a new girl in town first day on the job makes friend then become best than envy fights and few constant death in the hospital makes her feel something is wrong even cardiac arrest were so common in the show that doctors were enough to not to find out that there is something wrong . Thanks for.

Slow!
Laqshayaroraofficial27 April 2023
I really liked the trailer of this show, and I was glad to find out that it is also available in English on Netflix. However, after watching just five to ten minutes of the first episode, I decided to skip the rest of the show. It doesn't make sense to watch a 52-minute episode and then three more episodes that are over 50 minutes each, just to find out which nurse was committing the crime and whether she would get caught. I really don't understand why most new shows nowadays make 40-50 minute-long episodes when I can watch an entire movie instead of watching 2-3 episodes. Also, some people have pointed out that the show's storyline is exactly the same as the "The Good Nurse" movie. Therefore, for now, I have decided to skip this show.
