Taking The Waters
Here's another actuality from the Lumiere brothers, taken from the banks of Lake Geneva, where passengers are boarding the Geneva -- the ship -- and crates prominently labeled as containing Evian water are displayed.
It's not one of the ground-breaking Lumiere movies, but it is done with their typical competence, showing good composition, and a steady line of movement of passengers and men carrying freight. Doubtless the crates with their stenciled logos were intended to establish where this was going on; Evian was a popular resort, and thus a bit of exotica for the movie audience. It might also have been product placement.
