Sex & Nudity

  • A scene has prolongued female full frontal and rear nudity.
  • Frequent male nudity from Cillian Murphy whose naked butt can be seen several times throughout the show. Gaite Jansen's breasts are frequently shown in a seductive way as well as her butt.
  • There is a graphic orgy sequence in Season 3.
  • Graphic sex scenes throughout the show and sometimes, full and partial nudity. However, the sex and nudity become Severe as the show goes on.
  • There are scenes which take place in brothels with fully nude men and women having sex. A fight occurs during one of the episodes and the nude women run away.
  • Many graphic depictions of sex, with nude buttocks showing thrusting and couples gasping and grunting. There are also references to prostitution, out-of-wedlock childbirth, oral sex, incest, and casual sex.
  • An artist paints a woman as she lies down in front of him showing complete nudity.
  • There is a rape attempt in Season 1.

Violence & Gore

  • Almost every episode has some form of brutal violence in it. There are frequent gun fights and brawls. As such, the main gang has razors sealed in their caps, and they often use them in fights. Blood is clearly shown in almost every instance.
  • Seasons 2 and 4 contain the most graphic violence.
  • There is a scene where a man gets stabbed in the face multiple times onscreen and his face is very bloody and disfigured.
  • A person is shot in the face point blank and a large amount of blood sprays out the back of their head and onto a window.
  • Someone's throat gets slit with a very large amount of blood spraying out.
  • Season 2 contains a graphic rape scene and the person gets shot in the head afterwards.
  • A person stabs someone with a meathook with blood spraying out and then they both get almost completley covered in blood and the person shoots them in the head and a very large amount of blood splatters everywhere and all over the persons face.
  • Someone's head gets repeatedly hit with a metal pot until their head is crushed.
  • A man beats someone repeatedly until they can't move and then cuts their face off.
  • A major character gets hit in the head and gets brain damage and then has blood in the side of their head and struggles to do basic functions like talking and moving and sweats uncontrollably.
  • In a flashback scene to ww1, there is a fight in a tunnel that's very bloody and gory.
  • A man in an elevator gets shot with machine guns with blood spraying out in slow motion
  • Someones face is slammed against a sink multiple times with blood spray and then his ear is cut off with a razor
  • A mans in sawed into with a knife with blood squirting everywhere and then gets stabbed in the face a few times
  • The show's title refers to a gang's practice of wearing razor blades in their hats to head-butt and blind rivals during gang wars. Brutal violence is frequent: fisticuffs, point-blank shootings, stabbings, impalements, scenes from WWI battlefields, and torture.
  • There are scenes with strong violence, some are very bloody. These are nearly all shootings.

Profanity

  • "Cunt" is said 4 times in the series, twice in season 4 and once in seasons 5 and 6.
  • Frequent cursing and coarse language includes many unbleeped instances of "fuck" as well as sexual language including explicit names for oral sex.
  • There is a use of "nigger" in season 2.
  • 1,250 uses of "fuck" (57 in season one, 244 in season two, 244 in season three, 211 in season 4, 229 is season five, and 265 in season 6)
  • "Fuck" was only moderately used in Series 1, said about 5-10 times an episode. However, the word is excessively used in Series 2-6, at least 30-60 times an episode.
  • "Whore", "damn" and "hell" are used quite frequently
  • "Shit" and "bitch" are used occasionally

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There are many portrayals of drug use throughout the series.
  • All the characters, especially Thomas Shelby, are constantly smoking cigarettes. Constantly is a very light word, for the amount of smoking shown onscreen.
  • Use of cocaine is quite common.
  • Tommy and others are seen smoking Opium throughout the series as a coping mechanism.
  • Over 5000 cigarettes were smoked on the show.
  • Characters drink frequently onscreen, become drunk, and act violent and clumsy. One character has an opium habit, and a 10-year-old child smokes a cigarette onscreen.
  • Cocaine is used fairly frequently throughout the series, and there is also a few brief scenes of opium use. There is also a scene where a character takes a pill implied to be speed.
  • Smoking, drinking and drunkeness are portrayed in many settings.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A few torture scenes are present throughout.
  • The effects of PTSD are commonly portrayed.
  • There's a scene where a child gets killed by a car bomb.
  • There is very strong, bloody and disturbing violence that will impact viewers.
  • There is a short, attempted rape scene.
  • There is a very graphic suicide attempt by hanging.

Sex & Nudity

  • Tatiana strips fully nude and Thomas crawls towards her and starts to perform oral sex on her. He starts to have flashbacks of having sex with another character, and he wakes up on the floor.
  • It is heavily implied that a main character was raped by a priest when he was a kid.

Violence & Gore

  • Character gets shot in the eye and see you see it onscreen for 5 seconds.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • We see Finn Shelby sniffing cocaine in Season 3. Shown Briefly.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Tommy's self destructive behavior, excessive drinking and using opium, suicide attempts, and his anti social behavior might be disturbing to some viewers.
  • There is a scene when a group of people are torturing Tommy, and they cut one of his teeth.
  • Tommy kills his cousin by shooting him in his left eye.
