Spoiler free review!

Just stumbled across this one online. It's a real hidden gem, the narrative is strong as are the performances. I was left wanting more though. I read that the Director envisioned this as a feature. She should go back and make it so, she is a real talent. Solid 6/10 here. Rock on!

Warning: Spoilers
"Black Metal" is an American 9-minute live action short film from 2013, so this one has its 5th anniversary this year. It is in the English language of course andcwas written and directed by prolific and successful television filmmaker (recently) Kat Candler. It combines masculinity with pain as in here we have a rock musician's reaction on a student commiting a horrible crime and said student was a huge fan of the band of the protagonist. We see violence occur during the aftermath, but also find long sequences of talking between man and woman, father and child in this heavily dialogue-driven movie. I personally think here and there it stayed a bit too much above the surface, but still it was a good watch overall that felt realistic and authentic I would say. The fact that I liked it is even higher to appreciate as the subject is not necessarily one I care too much about and the music is not to my liking either. But it is good enough all in all for a film of under 10 minutes and the lead actor does a pretty decent job as well. So I give this one a thumbs-up and a positive recommendation. Go see it.
