Back in 2004, Christopher Smith made his feature writing and directing debut with the horror film Creep, which starred Franka Potente as a young woman who discovers a hideously deformed cannibal living in the London Underground. Now, Screen Daily reports that Smith is set to direct a reboot of his film – and since another horror franchise has taken over the name Creep, this reboot is called The Creep.

Production on The Creep is scheduled to take place in the UK this fall. Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy), Andy Nyman (Wicked) and rapper Aitch have signed on to star in the film, which will (as expected) be set in London’s shadowy underground. The story follows a struggling artist (Jobson) forced to return to her criminal drug-running past. Andy Nyman plays a captive well-versed in Creep’s nefarious behavior, while award-winning rapper Aitch plays Natter G, a famous drill rapper with natural survival instincts.

Set in London’s shadowy underground, Jasmine Jobson (“Top Boy”) stars as struggling artist forced to return to her criminal drug-running past. Andy Nyman (Wicked) co-stars as a captive well-versed in Creep’s nefarious behavior, and British rapper Aitch makes his acting debut as a famous drill rapper with natural survival instincts.

Production is set to begin this fall in the UK. In addition to Smith, Creep cinematographer Danny Cohen and production designer John Frankish are also returning.

CrazySexyCool, the upcoming jukebox musical about ’90s trio TLC that’s set to premiere at Arena Stage in Washington D.C. next year, is aiming for a Broadway move, sources tell Deadline. A Broadway production timeline hasn’t been set.

The Miami Film Festival today revealed the lineup for its upcoming 42nd edition, a slate of almost 200 narratives, documentaries, and short films, including 35 world premieres.

The cinematic showcase, set to unfold April 3-13, will open with Meet the Barbarians, directed by and starring two-time Oscar nominee Julie Delpy. The French-born star and filmmaker will receive the festival’s Impact Award on April 3. Miami Dade College’s (Mdc) Miami Film Festival has announced its lineup for its upcoming festival taking place from April 3 – 13 in Miami. This year’s festival includes a number of highly-anticipated premieres, plus special honoree events, anniversary celebrations, and a raft of awards-focused entrants.

Mostly, it will be quite the event for fans of Julie Delpy (count us in), whose latest directorial effort, “Meet the Barbarians,” will open the festival on April 3. The multihyphenate will also be on hand to receive the festival’s Impact Award, and on April 4, she will offer an extended introduction to a 30th-anniversary screening of Richard Linklater’s “Before Sunrise.” The festival will close with “On Swift Horses,” directed by Daniel Minahan, on April 12.

Other highlights include honors for Mark Duplass, Paul Feig, Melanie Lynskey, Roger Ross Williams, and Billy Zane. Other anniversary specials include “Picnic at Hanging Rock,” “Center Stage,” and “Pride & Prejudice.

With “Get Ready with Me” videos now all the rage on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube, Mark Duplass is getting in on the action with his beloved serial killer character Josef from “The Creep Tapes.” Based on the found footage horror films “Creep” and “Creep 2,” Duplass and co-creator/director Patrick Brice reinvent their cult classic for a half-hour series streaming on Shudder and AMC+ called “The Creep Tapes.”

Each episode follows Josef as he lures in a new victim to film him as he works towards their slaying. The series premiered at Fantastic Fest this year in September, followed by a streaming debut on November 15. Its fifth episode releases tomorrow, but ahead of it dropping, IndieWire has an exclusive sneak peek below.

Back in 2014, writer/director Patrick Brice and co-writer/star Mark Duplass teamed up with Blumhouse Productions to bring us the found footage horror film Creep – which was so well-received that a sequel, appropriately titled Creep 2, followed in 2017. Before Creep 2 was even released, Brice confirmed that a third film was in development and was meant to wrap everything up as a trilogy – but along the way, the plan changed from making another feature to making a TV series called The Creep Tapes. The six-episode series made its premiere on the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services last month – and during an interview with The New York Times, Duplass revealed that he made the show with the intention of it becoming comfort viewing for the audience, much like Friends and Seinfeld.

He’s baaaack. Indie filmmaker and actor Mark Duplass has returned as eccentric serial killer Josef from the found-footage horror films “Creep” and “Creep 2,” but now he’s bringing the terror to TV. Now streaming on Shudder and AMC+, “The Creep Tapes” follows Josef’s continued exploits with each episode featuring a different victim. In shifting the narrative to 25 minute installments, Duplass found inspiration in making his anthology series “Room 104” for HBO or observing classic sitcoms.

“I wanted ‘The Creep Tapes’ to feel, as crazy as it sounds, the way I felt with my family during the pandemic when we binge-watched ‘Friends’ and ‘Seinfeld.’ There’s a cold open, and the credit sequence hits, and we just feel comfortable,” said Duplass in a recent interview with The New York Times. “This is going to be a comfort show, weirdly, for people who love this character. It’s the comfort of discomfort.

The co-creator and star of a Blumhouse found footage franchise explains why they made the jump from Netflix to Shudder. Although it's primarily known for its movie offerings, which run the gamut from Happy Death Day to Get Out, Blumhouse has had several television series with varying levels of success. Some of their more notable projects in recent years include the horror anthology Into the Dark and Prime Video's The Horror of Dolores Roach.

The production company made its mark, however, with the 2009 found footage horror Paranormal Activity. Directed by Oren Peli, and continuing in the form of several sequels, Paranormal Activity helped to propel found footage horrors as a way of telling familiar stories through a fresh lens and subverting expectations. Another mini-franchise, which has made the jump to television, would follow a few years later.

The found footage horror movie subgenre saturated the film market after The Blair Witch Project was released in 1999. It might have taken a few years, but by the end of the 2000s, the monumental success of Paranormal Activity assured us that the subgenre wasn't going anywhere. Since then, we've gotten several found footage franchises, such as Rec, V/H/S, and Creep, as well as six more Paranormal Activity stories and a Blair Witch sequel. Although some argue the subgenre is stale and overused, there are still fresh releases that revive the style. And in 2022, we got the perfect example of this in Deadstream. The horror comedy manages to be interchangeably satirical and terrifying, filled with humor, jump scares, grotesque practical effects, and unpredictable twists.

In 2014, Creep creators Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice unleashed a bizarre new villain on the horror world: Josef, an overstepping extrovert who makes well-meaning strangers afraid of hurting his feelings, when they should be afraid for their lives. The Mubi streaming platform put itself on the map in a big way with horror fans with the recent premiere of Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance, and now a buzzy horror short is headed to the service in the coming days. It’s titled Dream Creep, and you can watch the trailer below.

After trying all of the same tricks as the first film, however, Aaron finds that Sara is unflappable: she’s not bothered by his pranks and jump scares and seems more than willing to match his freak in every conceivable way

Hugh Grant, one of the most household names in Hollywood romcoms for two decades, is now pulling out all the big guns as the creepy, majestic, and hardcore critic of all things religion in Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ new Mormon horror, Heretic (2024). The film raises questions about religious beliefs and points out the dogma behind every big religion. The cast also includes Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as the two Church members stuck with Mr. Reed and his web of mind games.

Heretic (2024) Plot Summary...

The Creep Tapes not only marks the return of the Creep movies' titular serial killer but also adds new characters to the mix who serve as catalysts for exploring the franchise's comically unsettling world and stories. Made on a shoestring budget of $500, the first Creep movie garnered immense critical acclaim after its release in 2014 and still boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%. For obvious reasons, the movie's success spawned a sequel, which premiered in 2017. Unlike most sequels, Creep 2 performed even better than its predecessor, boasting a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Although Creep 3 was reportedly in development after the second movie's success, creative challenges held its filmmakers back from bringing it to life. However, instead of creating Creep 3, they have now made a spin-off/prequel miniseries, which unfolds partly as an anthology. With each new episode, it shows how the franchise's central killer targets and murders new victims.

The main antagonist of Heretic is the devilishly charming Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant). Obsessed with theology and figuring out what is the truth behind all religions, he puts Heretic's leading women, Sister Paxton (Chloe East) and Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher), through the ringer. After inviting the Mormon women into his home, they cannot leave unless they entertain Mr. Reed's religious lectures and tests.
