According to Guillermo del Toro, who served as a back-up director (due to insurance purposes), the late director William Friedkin was given 15 days to complete the shooting. He had finished shooting at the 14th day.
Both director William Friedkin and star Lance Reddick who plays Captain Luther Blakely died before the film's release.

"The Caine Mutiny Court Martial" premiered at the Plymouth Theatre in New York on January 20, 1954. Included in the original cast were Henry Fonda as Barney Greenwald, John Hodiak as Lt. Maryk and Lloyd Nolan as Lt. Cdr. Queeg. James Garner (credited as "Jim Bumgarner") appeared as a member of the court and was understudy to John Hodiak. The play ran for 415 performances, closing on January 22, 1955.
