Beautiful scenery doesn't save it
dany-lloyd4 March 2023
L'île prisonnière started well which made me want to watch the other five episodes. Unfortunately, like a lot of other short series, it was too long and spun out and therefore lacking the intensity and emotion needed to keep the viewer involved. The whole thing could have been shot in two hours. I know Brittany is beautiful but you sometimes had the impression that you were watching a promotional movie for the Brittany tourist office. You can only use beautiful scenery up to a certain point. This and disparate acting skills and a lot of plot inconsistencies and incoherences with a predictable ending made watching the other 5 episodes hard going.

First series from novelist Michel Bussi

Two episodes in and this is an enjoyable show and marks the first foray of Michel Bussi in television. The setting in Brittany on a fictional island sets the tone. This is a beautiful part of the world but also to some extent one fraught with danger. The islanders usually fear the weather cutting them off from the rest of the country, but here the danger comes from intruders. Right now, it is not clear who these intruders are or what they really want but we can feel the tension building and whilst this is not maybe the most action packed show, it still moves at a decent pace. In a way, it reminds me a bit of "Lost". The island here is also almost a character. There are also a lot of unanswered questions but instead of utting me off, these are prompting me to watch on.
