Darcy is murdered and lots of witnesses say they see Dr Julia Odgen his wife going into the building or in the neighborhood. It's strange how they call Julia his wife but they never address her as Dr Julia Garland once she gets married.
Anyway Murdoch gets involved and he is partial to Julia even though he says he does not want to be. They find the gun that killed Dr Darcy Garland and Murdoch finds Julia's prints on the bullet.
Chief Constable Gilmore picks on Murdoch and Inspector Brackenreid. Brackenreid tells him off good. Gilmore suspends Murdoch because he feels he is too close to the case and doing things behind his back he is not supposed to do.
Murdoch on his own talks to Julia to find out where she was the day her husband was murdered. Everyone knew they were getting a divorce and then Darcy backed down for spite because he could not get her back, he still loved her. Murdoch can't seem to get a straight answer from Julia about where she was the night her husband was killed. She gives some lame excuse about privacy and taking care of a woman that was afraid of her husband in another town. Murdoch goes to the town & house and the house does not look like it has been lived in.
It seem like she was set up to get her out of town when her husband was killed. The woman she was supposed to have helped does not exist nor does her husband.
Dr Julia Ogden gets charged with murder and goes on trial.
