Saw this at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
"A Common Sequence" is a movie that explores tradition, colonialism, property, faith, and science, seen through labor practices that connect an endangered salamander, mass-produced apples, and the evolving fields of genomics and machine learning. From the New Frontier section, I don't know see films often from this category and I wanted to give a chance for this film. Beautiful camerawork and sound design throughout but the film didn't it do it for me.
Experimental films tend to be a hit or miss for me as some I really like but this one wasn't for me. The film explores many ideas but the film's dull pacing and uneven structure makes the film pretty much of a slog. I can see why the film showed these aspects but the film didn't really had a strong hold with me.
Rating: C.
