And all her pink universe...
RosanaBotafogo9 July 2023
Tori is a blonde princess who is bored of living her royal life, and has dreams of becoming a popstar. Keira, on the other hand, is a brunette popstar who dreams of being a princess. When the two meet, they magically trade places, but after realizing it is best to be themselves. When the graceful young princess, Tori, switches places with her favorite singer, Keira, the girls will have to work together to save Meribella's kingdom. Will the princess and pop star learn to appreciate the power of uniqueness?

Those super beat and well-known themes of changing bodies, the princess surrounded by her freedom versus the pop Star fulfilling her contracts that prune her freedom... Very cute, musically predictable, tasty, good to pass the time... I think I have crush on Barbie movies... S2... And all her pink universe...

Can a grown up woman enjoy this film yes I can
lisafordeay19 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Barbie The Princess And The Popstar is another retailing of The Prince And The Pauper along with the 2004 Barbie film The Princess And The Pauper.

This time singing sensation Keira and Princess Tori meet and decide to swap places thanks to a magic hair brush. Will the two enjoy their new lives as each other?.

Overall I did enjoy this film. Sure its a recycled version of the 2004 film The Princess And The Pauper but who cares everything is recycled these days.

unimaginative and recycled

Warning: Spoilers
The Princess and the Popstar is simply the princess and the pauper modernized poorly.

If you have seen Barbie: The Princess and the Pauper, don't watch this remake. They reuse the music: to be a princess, and change it so it fits the new video. They change Cyndi Laupers' "Girls just want to have fun" to princesses just want to have fun. The villains are pale in comparison to Preminger played by martin short in the pauper.

In this one they assume each others roles via a magic hair brush, which changes their hair, and a magic microphone which changes their outfits.

However, my kids like it, and your kids will probably too if they like Barbie videos.

Not the worst Barbie movie, but a long way from the best
TheLittleSongbird13 February 2013
I can definitely see why people- especially pre-schoolers, the main target audience- will like The Princess and the Popstar. What I'm saying here though is that it didn't work for me. And I personally like most of the Barbie movies(my top favourites being Nutcracker and Diamond Castle), none of them are among the best movies ever made but due to stereotyping mainly they do get a bad rep. The Princess and the Popstar is at least better than Fashion Fairytale and Fairy Secret, but for me it is one of the weaker ones of the franchise. I thought the backgrounds and colours were beautiful, the songs were catchy and Kelly Sheridan is back as Barbie and does a great job. However, while I liked the colours and backgrounds I wasn't crazy about the character movements which had a tendency to become awkward. This is the same with the dancing as well, some of it was cool but at other times it got repetitive from an animation and moves perspective. The dialogue is stilted this time around, and in regard to the characters Barbie is too spoilt and pampered and the villain is obnoxious. I'm not sure whether I'd go as far to say that the story is a direct rip-off of Barbie in Princess and the Pauper, but it is derivative of it. It is also incredibly predictable with nothing new or fresh and the magical items idea isn't explained and is not interwoven into the story anywhere near as successfully as Barbie as Rapunzel. The message is a good one and means well, the problem is that I've seen and heard it done so many times and much better. Apart from Sheridan, the voice actors don't make much of a distinction. Overall, when it comes to Barbie it is not the worst or the best but it was very disappointing all the same. 3/10 Bethany Cox

Great movie!
brookenichole-9805413 September 2020
Even though they had already done this concept before, they rocked it once again. It's different from many other Barbie movies and shows a great friendship. The voice acting is terrific and the songs are catchy. The story never feels dull and the idea with the magic hairbrush and microphone was perfect. Overall, it's a great movie!

Stupid remake of the beautiful original.
ashley_prettyglimmerpixi1 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
If I could rate this -1,0000 out of 10 I would be happy to. This is a really bad modern remake of Barbie As The Princess And The Pauper, which IS a really good movie. Stupid song parody of "Girls just wanna have fun" by Cindi Lauper too. They copied the song from the original movie, which really made me hate it. If they were going to do a remake, they could have at least made it original. Now they are making a remake of Barbie and The Twelve Dancing Princesses, which I will never add to my collection of Barbie movies ever. The last good Barbie movie, in my opinion, was the Diamond Castle. Then Barbie got flushed down the toilet. The new movies like this have no originality, Barbie acts like a pampered girl, and everything about them is annoying. Thumbs down for this movie!!!

Basically a ripped off of princess and the pauper
dianamarinelli20 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Don't expect much from this movie very unoriginal it look like they are running out of ideas. Why did have to have magic? How did they get their magic? A diamond tree for the kingdom power? Come on this is why I hate when they remake classics and the only saving grace were the songs

Obnoxious
The characters are annoying, the dogs are useless, and the plot is stupid. I think the villain might be the worst character in the film, but it's a tough call.

'Barbie: The Princess & the Popstar' Is Barbie-Glamour Tweak on Twain
rannynm29 October 2012
Mark Twain's classic The Prince and the Pauper gets a glamorous modern makeover in the new DVD release from Universal Studios, Barbie: The Princess & the Popstar. While Twain contrasted two opposites – a prince, which everyone would want to be, and a pauper, which was not so attractive – Universal's two heroines both live a life that every young girl thinks she wants. But glamour isn't necessarily all it seems to be. As KIDS FIRST! youth film critic Cheyenne Nguyen, age 8, observes in her review, below, "There are always things that you would like to change, but accepting who you are will make you a happy person." Viewing the film also may make you a happy person. "The dance moves are amazing and make me want to stand up and dance along with the movie," says 7-year- old KIDS FIRST! youth film critic Morgan Bertsch, describing the music and singing as "fun and upbeat." See the video review with both girls here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z9XM9Y-9ag

Barbie: The Princess & the Popstar Reviewed by Morgan Bertsch

The story follows two girls, Tori and Keira. Tori is the princess who wishes she was a popstar and Keira is the popstar longing to be a princess. Interesting fact: Did you know that the original author of The Prince and the Pauper is Mark Twain of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn fame? Whoo — say that five times fast! The original story was published in 1881.

Tori, the princess, is the classic blonde Barbie who is bored of her royal life. Keira, the popstar, is the brunette Barbie who dreams of being a princess. When the two of them meet, they magically trade places. But it's not all that it appears, as the pop star's manager, Crider, has plans to steal the spotlight from Keira. The girls have to figure out a way to stop his evil plot and never forget the show must go on.

I've always been a big fan of the Barbie franchise and I love what they have done in this movie. The music and singing is fun and upbeat, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." They have many different songs. I loved learning to sing the words. The dance moves are amazing and make me want to stand up and dance along with the movie. The live animation and the great set designs make me feel like I was really at a live concert.

If given the choice I would choose to be the Barbie Pop star. Whoops, sorry — I'd prefer to be Morgan because you learn in this story that it's best to be who you are. Hmm, Morgan the Pretty Princess Pop Star sounds kind of fun, though!

My favorite part of the movie is when she finds a crystal diamond gardenia. Wait till you see what it can do. The dogs are the cutest. Although they can talk I would like to hear more of what they have to say. I love all the different hair colors and styles. The dresses are incredible and amazing. I wish I could twirl and just change clothes like Barbie or at least borrow that magic microphone for the day. I also love all the glitter and sparkles. No Barbie movie is complete until the glitter sparkle ending.

The ages for this movie are 4 and up or anybody who's a fan of Barbie. This is a must-own for your collection. I give it five twinkling stars.

This DVD is scheduled to be available September 2012 in celebration of Universal's 100th anniversary. Thank You Universal for all your great movies!

Barbie: The Princess & the Popstar Reviewed by Cheyenne Nguyen

This movie is full of great songs and dance. Princess Tori is a big fan of Popstar Keira. They finally meet at the Princess Castle and hit it off right away. They start talking and the princess wishes to be a popstar and the popstar wishes to be the princess for a day. Then they realized they look so much alike and try on each other clothes and pretend to each other.

Princess Tori and Keira are so much alike that they can fool a lot of people around them. Except for Princess Tori's two younger sisters; they knew right away it wasn't their sister. Tori and Keira share many secrets. One of the secrets is overheard by Keira's evil manager. This is when all bad things start to happen. They must overcome a lot of obstacles in the process of getting their lives back.

The awesome songs and dances in this movie are put together like magic. All the songs are well-known songs and the dance moves so cool. It makes me want to get up and dance to all the songs. The cartoon quality is very clear, it's like watching real-life people dancing. The details to the hair and make-up on each character are so real. Great storyline; most little girls dream of being a princess or a popstar.

This really shows the daily routine of a princess and a popstar. Only a small portion of their daily lives are good to have, the rest of their daily routines are hard work. It's not what most people would want for their lives.

My favorite character is Princess Tori's dog, Vanessa. She is so wise and cute.

The message of this movie is be happy with what you are. There are always things that you would like to change, but accepting who you are will make you a happy person.

I rank this movie five out of five stars. I give this an age range of 3 to 10.

Princess and the Pauper but Worse.
fastandfuriostmp31 December 2020
The only good thing I can say is that I did love the new song "Here I am."

Sadly though, this movie is basically a ripped copy of their Princess and the Pauper movie which I definitely recommend instead of this.

The characterizations are weak and hard for me to even like. The girls, Tori especially, acts childish but not in an innocent and fun way. She is childish in the sense that she is disrespectful and stuck up. The dogs, especially the male one, Riff, doesn't have much of personality other than spewing a bunch of random things excitedly, and Vanessa is just annoyingly pompous.

The plot is very weak, and the villains go nowhere far with their plans. I feel like they needed a stronger motivation and more characteristics that lead them to want to do what they wanted to do.

The chemistry between Prince Liam and Keira aren't really there, and yet the prince holds feelings for her somehow.

This Is The Best Movie I Have Ever Seen In My Whole Life!!!!!!!! Is What I would Be Saying If I Actually Liked It
Movieman49509 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
BLUURGH! Why? Why? If the dolls weren't crappy enough, HOLD ON TO YOUR LEGO, BOYS, BARBIE'S GOT A MOVIE!!!!! And this, oh, this, was the worst of them all. Princesses want to have fun? I always thought princesses were just spoiled brats who always wanted more money! Oh, yeah. That's SSOO fun! (I'm being sarcastic.)

The story tells of a pop-star swapping places with a princess (Barbie) who apparently just wants to have fun with her ugly, annoying, yapping dog, Victoria Fluffy-Pie (What idiot names their dog THAT?!?!?).

To save you all the trouble of watching this to see if it is good or not, I one hundred percent assure you that this movie is not good. I know! I've been forced to watch it I don't know, maybe 2000 TIMES?!?!?!

LukeDaly12329 April 2019
As such that pertaining to such a film is inadvertently that which is hence such a title invariable and easily ascertainable as pertaining to obviously hence the drought and crop failures amongst other economic downturn signs that which is set in Orange County, California, hence such things with the charity ball overtly being raised so that way the investment banks may be bailed out so their problems may be relived of.

Songs that could chart top 10
ryansouter19852 January 2022
Look, yeah it is a kids movie with a pretty basic story line but the main songs throughout the movie show that effort and money has not been spared when producing them. Not sure why the low score but uo there out of all the barbie movies.
