The Twist in the End Saves the Movie
claudio_carvalho24 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The psychiatric Lauro (Bruno Gagliasso) travels with his estranged and unbalanced girlfriend Renata (Regiane Alves) to a remote house surrounded by the woods. They stop in a bar and the owner advises that there are criminals in the area slaughtering women and raping their bodies but Lauro does not disclose the information to Renata. When they arrive at the house, the housekeeper Luzia (Juliana Alves) tells that she was not expecting them because of the news about the murders. Then Lauro hears the news on the radio and becomes worried about the safety of Renata. The stubborn Renata decides to sneak out of the house to walk alone and Lauro seeks her out in the woods. He sees Renata being attacked by a strange but someone hits on his head and Lauro faints. When he awakes, his discovers that Renata is still alive and he brings her to the house. But Renata is wounded and Lauro stays awake to protect her. Will they be safe inside the isolated house?

"Isolados" (meaning "Isolated") is a boring thriller with unlikable characters. Lauro and Renata are annoying and poorly developed despite the good performances of Bruno Gagliasso and Regiane Alves. The plot uses the usual clichés of the genre but the unexpected and confused twist in the end saves the movie. Renata was murdered by the two criminals and Lauro has a breakdown and goes crazy; but why he is arrested in the end? My vote is six.

The central idea of the movie is very good...

The principal actors are also good, but the cops kinda spoiled the movie atmosphere, they are not professionals, their phrases are no sense sometimes and they are so "Clichê" the good cop and the bad, ho who the hell had that idea...

but the movie itself is worth by the twist in the end! i recommend, but don't try to compare it with American movies. One reason is because it doesn't have so much blood and gore as some famous titles (the hostel, saw, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and etc) and also it is not big Hollywood production, it is a Brazilian movie just

Excellent Brazilian horror movie!

Warning: Spoilers
Excellent Brazilian horror film. Despite not being a common genre in Brazil, this is a movie that is in the same level of the best in the world. Very well filmed, directed, acted, with excellent location, light, cinematography, soundtrack. There is true tense atmosphere, and espectator has doubt and fear throughout the movie. In some way it merges two different kinds of horror stories: supernatural and slasher. It is also a very deeply violent story. Besides that, there is strong usage of Blair Witch project style camera and location allows some Cabinet of Dr. Caligari type angles. A successful horror movie, the last of José Wilker's career.
