Simon Lythgoe (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Opening Act) and his Legacy Productions have signed an overall co-production deal with Jenny Daly’s T Group Productions. Lythgoe has a history with T Group, having served as an executive producer and showrunner for an upcoming T Group / Roberts Media production, Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings, that premieres May 7 on Freeform. You know things are getting down to wire when contestants start invoking God. During The Voice season 11 top 10 performances we saw just that. Nearly half the songs were on spiritual themes, while all of the others dealt with longings. With two people set to go home, The Voice season 11 top 10 performers went to reel in people’s hearts. With everyone at this point being so great musically, I suspect it’s going to come down to whose song moved voters the least. Here’s how the performances went down! The Opening Act Team Adam: Billy Gilman – “Anyway” by Martina McBride Finally! This

Under the pact, which starts January 1, Shine and Lythgoe will develop and produce new series for the global TV marketplace. “Nigel is clearly one of the world’s leading television producers, with an unmatched track record in TV programming both here in the U.S. and in the UK,” said incoming Shine America CEO Rich Ross. Added Elisabeth Murdoch, Chairman of Shine Group, “I have known and admired Nigel for a long time. Exclusive: The newly minted American Idol judge will be coming to E! but she is not going to be doing the full Kardashian. “The plan is to do specials with her, not a whole series,” a source close to the situation told Deadline today. E! will air three Minaj specials later this fall. Some filming has already taken place I’ve learned. The flamboyant singer was named as one of the new judges on Fox’s American Idol earlier this month, along with Keith Urban and the previously announced Mariah Carey. Minaj actually appeared on E! recently in Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe’ s new Opening Act show. She gave a spot on her upcoming tour to boy band Gotham Citi. Minaj has a six-week tour starting in late October and an expanded re-release of her Pink Friday album out in November. Related: First Photo Of ‘American Idol’s...

So You Think You Can Dance’s Nigel Lythgoe knows fame costs, and he’s ready to start paying… in sweat.
Lythgoe — who in addition to judging and exec-producing Sytycd is also Ep of American Idol and Opening Act – has partnered with MGM Television to “re-imagine” Fame, the story of a New York City performing arts high school – a concept made famous in the 1980 movie and the hit TV series it inspired.
The original movie followed students and teachers at NY’s High School for the Performing Arts and had an eclectic cast that included Irene Cara, Anne Meara and Debbie Allen.

Viewers are used to the whole singing reality show rundown at this point: A bunch of people sing, some get sent home in tears and one competitor comes out victorious. But new series "Opening Act" is singing a different tune with a format in which the artists are all winners from the get-go and no one goes home defeated.
Producer Nigel Lythgoe and a posse of industry vets like Martina McBride, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, and Jason Derulo handpick unknown singers, songwriters and musicians from the internet to open for a major act like Nicki Minaj, Rod Stewart, Brad Paisley and Gym Class Heroes. Comedian Olivia Lee plays host and fairy godmother of sorts to the unsuspecting performers, surprising them with the good news.
Wentz and Lee tell Zap2it just what it's like to give these up-and-comers their big break.

You have to hand it to Nigel Lythgoe.
After wrapping the season finale of "American Idol," the producer/TV personality took a whole three days of vacation before coming back to talk about his new E! series, "Opening Act," premiering Monday, July 9.
The "Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance" co-executive producer once again gives unknowns a chance at the big time, but this time there's no real audition and no competition. Sifting through the myriad singers and bands who have put themselves on YouTube or elsewhere on the Internet, the show's producers find the ones they think could have a real shot at stardom and ambush them with a platinum opportunity -- to open for an established international act. There's just one hitch: They have only five days to prepare.

"So You Think You Can Dance" speaks for itself. Actually, scratch that. "Sytycd" is so much more. I think it's easy to pass off the dance competition series as just another reality show but, really, it's anything but. There's only a bit of cheese, the talent is remarkable, and the moments are emotional and unforgettable. This isn't a dance show that centres on random celebrities with sexy pros (not that there's anything wrong with that), but "Sytycd" showcases the best of the best (at least, for this season, the show's ninth) and there's simply nothing like it.
For the most part, "Sytycd" can do no wrong -- though, admittedly, I'm not a fan of famous guest judges just for the sake of their celebrity, so when the third spot on the panel is given to someone unqualified, it's definitely a fast-forward moment (I love Zooey Deschanel and "New Girl" ranks among one of my favourites,...

American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance producer Nigel Lythgoe is done with voting. No, Idol and Sytycd are not eliminating their voting elements, but Lythgoe has decided against using the same tactic for his new E! music reality series, Opening Act… Instead, the show follows a handful of wannabe singing superstars who posted performance videos only to find themselves handpicked by Lythgoe to become opening acts for major headliners like Lady Gaga, Rod Stewart, Jason Mraz, Nicki Minaj and Jason Aldean, among others. While there's no Idol or X Factor-like competitions taking place, each singer is put through a grueling five-day performance boot camp leading up to their big opening act gig. On...
