We should go ahead and rename December 12th “Arrow Video Day,” because the fine fiends over there have a ton of titles coming out this Tuesday, including Special Edition sets for The Premonition and Malatesta’s Carnival of Blood, and they’ve also put together standalone special edition Blu-rays for both House and House II: The Second Story. Severin Films is resurrecting Asylum this Tuesday, and fans can finally get their hands on the latest season of Game of Thrones, as well as a box set featuring every episode from all seven seasons.
Other notable releases for December 12th include K-Shop, Once Upon A Time at Christmas, Brackenmore, The Snake Woman, Beware the Lake, and Hollow Creek.

Harper Grace‘s smile is only one of many sweet things about her.
Case in point: an adorable letter the 7-year-old daughter of Neil Patrick Harris wrote to the tooth fairy, which the proud dad couldn’t resist showing off on Instagram Thursday.

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka have done it again!
The couple took to Instagram on Monday to show off this year's family Halloween costume -- and it is even "freakier" than we imagined.
"Hurry, hurry! Step right up and behold the Burtka-Harris Halloween Carnival of Curiosities! #happyhalloween @dbelicious," Harris captioned a pic of him and his family dressed as freak show characters.
Harris made a perfect ringleader, while Harper dressed up as a bearded lady, Gideon posed as a strongman and Burtka made a convincingly creepy clown.
Exclusive: Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell Were Both Elsa for Halloween: 'We Sent Each Other Photos'
"Trick or Freak... plus out takes," Burtka wrote alongside a slideshow of pics of the family getting into character.
We weren't sure how Harris, Burtka and the twins would outdo last year's Hollywood-inspired ensembles (or Star Wars characters, the year before that), but they really have done it again.

Hurry, hurry! Step right up and behold the Burtka-Harris Halloween Carnival of Curiosities! #happyhalloween @dbelicious A post shared by Neil Patrick Harris (@nph) on Oct 30, 2017 at 9:08pm Pdt Every year we think Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka, and their kids, twins Gideon and Harper, can't possibly top their Halloween costumes from the year before, but they somehow always do just that. And this year was obviously no exception, with the family opting for a "Carnival of Curiosities" theme for their flawless group costumes. Neil donned a creepy ringmaster getup, while David played right into this year's obsession with creepy clowns with his terrifying ensemble, which had more than a hint of American Horror Story's Twisty the Clown about it. When it came to their adorable kids, Gideon was a strong man complete with a twisty mustache, and Harper made the perfect bearded lady. RelatedThese 2017 Celebrity Halloween Costumes Will...

The Burtka-Harris clan has won Halloween — again.
Late Monday night, Neil Patrick Harris shared a photo of himself, husband David Burtka and their 7-year-old twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace decked out in their midway best.
For their 2017 family ensemble — posed in front of a carnival backdrop — Harris took on the role of ringmaster, while Burtka dressed as a creepy clown. Gideon opted for a “World’s Strongest Man” costume, and his sister Harper rocked a full face of hair as a bearded lady.

Everyone needs an escape from time to time. A place apart from reality, where the strange whisper with the miraculous, and cheap trinkets are bartered with greasy denizens of the night. What better place to set a horror film than the carnival, where the potential for mystery awaits around every crimson tent and distorted mirror? If you’re so inclined, step right up and buy a ticket to The Funhouse (1981), the late Tobe Hooper’s wonderful tribute to the seedy shadowed world of carnies, caramel apples, and Universal monsters.
Released in March by Universal, The Funhouse underperformed at the box office, but critics (including Gene Siskel) admired it for focusing on suspense and thrills rather than gruesome mayhem. In a landscape littered with severed limbs and phallically inclined urban legends, Mr. Hooper used his genius to once again showcase the underbelly of the American psyche, this time with a major studio’s dollars.

So last Friday, in lockstep, we all walked off the edge of the cliff and began what promises to be a long, long plunge. (Maybe you can feel the wind in your hair but I can’t, due to a scarcity of hair.) The big fall may end early and perhaps abruptly. Others will continue to fall until we stop. Don’t know when that’ll be, or how bad the jolt will be. Remember T.S. Eliot’s lines in his poem, The Hollow Men?
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper
Step right up, ladeez an’ gennelmen, and place your bets What’ll it be, bang or whimper?

The 2015 St. Louis International Film Festival, also known as Sliff, has begun. Even though Alex Winter couldn’t bring Freaked in town, he did bring his two great tech documentaries, Downloaded and Deep Web – in addition to being awesome to us and presenting Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Sliff has a robust schedule full of independent and foreign cinema along with some mainstream affair like Legend starring Tom Hardy and some possible future Oscar contenders like Carol. Horror comics and magazines filled my shelves as a kid, titles such as Creepy, Eerie, House of Secrets and The Witching Hour weakening my eyes and troubling my sleep. I simply could not get enough of them. However, when I discovered that there were films made in the same multistory, blood soaked spirit, well, I forgot about sleep altogether. My first stop was Creepshow (1982), and delighted with that, I made my way back through earlier (and gentler) excursions of terror. Step right up ladies and gentlemen! Enter the Torture Garden (1967), a carnival exhibit where the evils of man are laid before you…for a price.
Released by Columbia Pictures November ’67 in the U.K. and July ’68 in North America, Torture Garden was the second film of Amicus Productions (Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (’65) being the first) that followed the omnibus format. Amicus, started by producers Max Rosenberg and Milton Subotsky,...

1982. What a year. From The Beast Within to Creepshow to Friday the 13th Part III to Q, it displayed a smorgasbord of fantastical delights for terror consumers. Standing heads (two, to be exact) and shoulders apart from the crowd was Frank Henenlotter’s grimeball debut, Basket Case, a lovely tale of a boy and his twin brother. Who happens to be a monstrous blob. And lives in a basket.
Shot on 16mm for a reported $35,000 Us, Basket Case premiered in Henenlotter’s beloved Times Square, and became a big hit on the grindhouse circuit. This shouldn’t be surprising, as the film is a big, fat, wet kiss to the pre-cleanup New York of the ’80s (think diseases, not Disney). Critics at the time acknowledged the uniqueness of it, but most could not overlook the technical deficiencies or the broad range of performances on display. No matter. Horror fans that...

Step right up! Step right up! Here it is folks, the moment you've all been waiting for - the big finale to the greatest (or, at the very least, goriest) show on earth! That's right, "American Horror Story: Freak Show," the somewhat uneven fourth season of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's ingenious horror anthology, came to a close last night with an episode entitled "Curtain Call." It was a profoundly disturbing hour-and-17-minutes (hey, Ryan Murphy doesn't play by anyone's rules) but, in the series' constant need to shock and surprise, ended with a bittersweet tone that had us holding back tears. Yes, seriously. Shall we begin?

After last week's episode ended with Elsa selling the freak show to that dastardly Dandy, it was anybody's guess as to how that would play out. And it did play out somewhat surprisingly - after Dandy complained about not selling enough tickets,...

Greetings Gothamites!
‘Wow,’ I said to myself after watching this week’s instalment. ‘I don’t know what to make of that. I’ll mull it over.’ I still don’t know what side to settle on. Don’t get me wrong – I’m impressed, but sometimes it’s hard to come down on a balance and say that this was a ‘goodie’ or a ‘baddie’. I’m edging towards goodie, but let’s lay the bag of snakes out straight so you can decide for yourselves. From this point on, there are spoilers.
Plot Extravaganza!
This week’s plot features the avalanche of plot hurtling to the ground of narrative and the rubble of characterisation settling amidst the dust of some (not all of it, though) pretty shoddy writing. It begins with Oswald Cobblepot marching into police headquarters and announcing his presence after Gordon is meant to have killed him.

I would enjoy being transported back in time to the bygone era when circus sideshows featured human oddities among their gleefully seedy cons—the sword-swallowers, the bearded ladies, the barkers who shouted “Step right up, folks, to see the Two-Headed Girl!”—all of which makes me an ideal audience for Ryan Murphy’s latest edition of FX’s premier scare-fest, American Horror Story: Freak Show. Alas, I found it insufficiently lurid--slow-paced and obvious. And if the show can’t even appeal to a viewer like me, eager to be hood-winked by its premise, what hope does it have to

"Jodorowsky's Dune"
What's It About? Cult filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky's vision for a "Dune" movie was beyond remarkable; it was truly epic. Pink Floyd, H. R. Giger, and Mick Jagger were just a few of the names attached to the film - until it imploded. This is a documentary about a sci-fi film that was ahead of its time and the visionary behind it.
Why We're In: Tons of interviews, behind-the-scenes details, storyboards, and more make this a must-see for art house, midnight movie, and film history fiends.
Moviefone's Top Blu-ray of the Week
"Point Blank"
What's It About? Lee Marvin and Angie Dickinson star in this cool crime drama about a thief who's out for revenge on the dude who double-crossed him. Mel Gibson's "Payback" was based on the same novel, "The Hunter" by Donald E. Westlake, but that shouldn't deter you.

Transformers: Age of Extinction, the fourth movie in Michael Bay’s blockbuster franchise, picks up four years after the Autobots and Decepticons left Chicago a city in ruins.
Replacing Shia Labeouf as the primary human protagonist, Mark Wahlberg plays Texan robotics inventor Cade Yeager. While working on an old semi-truck, Cade discovers that the vehicle is an injured Optimus Prime. His discovery brings the government, which wishes to take down all transformers, to his doorstep. What ensues is a battle with Cade’s team of Autobots against a dangerous group that wants unrestrained control over the world.
Transformers Reviews
Critics have panned what could be the start of a second Transformers trilogy. Though the series has always weathered its fair share of criticism, this latest effort has been dubbed the worst. Not only are there endless battle scenes, but the loud sequences bored reviewers. At over two and a half hours,...

The St. Louis Globe-Democrat is a monthly newspaper run by Steve DeBellis, a well know St. Louis historian, and it’s the largest one-man newspaper in the world. The concept of The Globe is that there is an old historic headline, then all the articles in that issue are written as though it’s the year that the headline is from. It’s an unusual concept but the paper is now in its 27th successful year! Steve and I collaborated in 2011 on an all-Vincent Price issue of The Globe and he has asked me to write a regular monthly movie-related column. Since there is no on-line version of The Globe, I will be posting all of my articles here at We Are Movie Geeks. Since this month’s St. Louis Globe-Democrat is written as if it’s 1959, I decided to write about two of my favoririte films from that...

Tim Doyle was asked by Matt Dye of Blunt Graffix to create a poster for the Bijou Metro’s screening of Robocop!
From Doyle- “Robocop is by far one of the most influential films in my little life. I saw it in the theater in 1987 when I was merely 10 years old, and it completely rewired my brain in new and dark ways. And I thank Paul Verhoven for it every single day of my life. Listening to Verhoven’s commentary, he pointed out that for him- Robocop is a Jesus allegory, calling it ‘The American Jesus.’ And in keeping with great American traditions, this Titanium Jesus raises from the grave not for forgiveness, but for revenge. It’s a bloody mess, and brilliant social satire that has yet to be eclipsed in my opinion. The design is obviously lifted from Dali’s Crucifixion Hypercubus- my favorite film meets my favorite Crucifixion depiction.

On this week’s Hump Day with Adam Lambert, Adam rules the Glee universe again, and Tweets a … cryptic message.
Adam has really helped revitalize Glee this season, and I hope when the show permanently moves to NYC, they’ll save him a place. This week’s episode bodes well, as he was actually part of the roommate drama, and had some nice scenes with Santana (Naya Rivera). And yes, I did let out a Squee! when Santana responded to Elliot with this:
Santana: “You need money? Maybe Auntie Snicks can help you out with that” #Glee
— therealSnicks (@therealSnicks) March 5, 2014
Adam was part of the two best musical numbers of the night. He teamed up with Rachel (Lea Michele) for a cover of Heart‘s classic “Barracuda.” This is another song tailor-made for Adam, and he crushed it, even if Lea seemed a little out of her comfort zone. But,...

Ichabod Crane’s jug-band Christmas gets off to a less than merry start in this week’s Sleepy Hollow, and can you blame the guy for not wanting to dig into the figgy pudding or sip the wassail?
If your first Thanksgiving in the 21st century were marked by finding out about a son whom your trapped-bound wife never thought to mention, you might not be all that into decking the halls, either. And what Crane discovers about his chip off the ol’chabod this week is enough to put any dad in a funk that would last long past Groundhog Day.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey really got into the Halloween spirit this year. Wearing red overcoats and top hats, the spouses of two years dressed up as circus ringleaders. Their 13-month-old son, Camden, wore a lion's costume and held hands with both parents outside of the Lachey Carnival. Vanessa, 32, shared a picture of their festive looks via Twitter on Sunday, Oct. 27. "Step right up and Welcome to The Lachey CarnEVIL! We even managed to tame a cute lion," she captioned. On Saturday, the actress shared a snapshot of her pre-party prep. "Setting up for our Halloween party and I'm soooo sick from all the candy I've eaten!" she tweeted. Last weekend, when I went to see The Conjuring, I expected to be scared, and I also thought that I was walking into a haunted-house movie. It certainly starts off as a haunted-house movie, with director James Wan throwing in every goose-the-audience gothic scare tactic (alarming blasts of music, sinister Victorian clown faces, ghostly figures popping up in mirrors) but the rattling of the kitchen sink. The film is, of course, “based on a true story,” in much the same way that virtually every rattletrap ghost thriller since The Amityville Horror (1979) has been “based on a true story.” (It really happened,...

The Monsters University star has been a big screen presence for a number of years. Here's some of his most memorable moments
John Goodman first rose to prominence in sitcom Roseanne, starring as long-suffering working class everyman Dan Conner. The show began in 1988, and over the intervening years he's been a consistently engaging screen presence on the big and small screen – although he can be a fractious interviewee, as Xan Brooks found out earlier this year when interviewing him for Argo:
Fishing responses from him is like chipping at granite. He says, "No, sir" and, "I don't know"; "I suppose" and, "I wouldn't know about that." From time to time, he emits a long, breathy groan, as though invisible doctors are subjecting him to some invasive medical procedure. I don't know whether he's exhausted or sick; whether he hates interviews or this particular interviewer. On balance, with the benefit of hindsight,...

Step right up folks for the magical tour through space and time, transcending common sense and console exclusivity. Without further ado, here are 5 awesome games you really should have played but you probably already have.
5. Pirates of the Caribbean (2003)
Before Skyrim, Oblivion, Dishonored, and Rage, Bethesda Softworks published all kinds of crazy games (and still do: remember Star Trek: Tactical Assault anyone). Pick of the bunch from me, recent Aaa releases aside, is the 2003 spiritual successor to Sea Dogs: Pirates of the Caribbean, for PC, Xbox, and mobile. Forget mobile here. The Russian developed game sounds like Oblivion from a distance: explore dense forests, realistic towns, and capture forts… What!? That’s right, as you play as the dashing Nathaniel Hawk (see what they did there) you have the freedom of the Caribbean archipelago to follow intrigue, capture forts and other ships if you so choose, and swashbuckle with best of them.

Step right up, haters. (Which, let the record show, I have never been one of, in regards to this series.) After three strong, this-is-why-we-like-this-show installments, Modern Family rolled out an early fourth season dud. This episode contained barely any elements the show does well, and highlighted almost all its dull and ugly facets. The cold open was a bad omen — so few laughs, such minimal development of anything intriguing. Luke's doing magic and is called the Great Lukini? Gloria is snoring? (Snoring?!) Cameron's up late playing music? Two brief laughs — a surly, sleepy Lily unplugging Cam's keyboard and chucking the cord; Manny, still the beneficiary of some seriously unfunny-proof writing, tossing off, "Ocupado, big guy, find another foxhole" — do little to stop this from being a naked invocation for the drabness to follow. Let's start with Cam's joke, "Here comes treble." Not only is it a long-standing pun...
