Mumbai, Aug 29 (Ians) Packed with action and impactful diaglogues, the makers of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Jawan’ finally unveiled the trailer of the film on Thursday.
The two-minutes fourty five second long trailer begins with Shah Rukh Khan in his husky voice saying: “Ek raja tha ek baad ek jung haarta gaya… bhookha pyaasa ghoom raha tha jungle main bahut gusse main tha.”
The perfectly cut trailer then shows Srk’s character floating in the sea, having blood on his hands and lying down fully bandaged. What comes next is a hijack followed with car chasing scenes, guns and high octane action.
An intriguing scene from the film is shown, where a bald Shah Rukh Khan is seen in a metro holding people hostage.
A voice says: “Yeh batao tumhe chahiye kya?”
Srk then says: “Chahiye toh Ali Bhatt.”
Later, the Atlee-directed film’s trailer shows glimpses of Shah Rukh as ‘Jawan’, meaning a soldier,...

There is something around Bollywood that continues to carry its old world charm. When a pair is in love, a visit around the trees is a must. Now that’s the kind of timeless romantic rendezvous Girish Kumar and Navneet Dhillon indulge in as well during the song ‘Mar Jaayen’ from their film Loveshhuda which has just been unveiled.
What catches one’s attention is the fact that the song has been unveiled well in advance, even though the film is around three months away (it releases on 15th January 2016). Now that’s different from the current trend when sometimes songs aren’t heard even when just a fortnight remains for the release. In that aspect, the makers (producer Vijay Galani, audio company Tips) have done well to introduce the music and the cast to the audience so that they get adequately familiarized with what is in store.

Girish Kumar, the son of the Tips' head honcho Kumar Taurani, made his film debut with Ramaiya Vastavaiya. While he may have been chasing heroines in reel life, in real life, this soft spoken man just bid adieu to his single status by marrying his girlfriend of eight years Krsna Mangwani. News reports state that the marriage was a low key affair and was done in the presence friends and family on February 11. Girish Kumar made his debut in Bollywood with the Shruti Haasan starrer Ramaiya Vastavaiya. He is also busy shooting yet another romantic film directed by ad filmmaker Vaibhav Mishra which marks the debut of former beauty queen Navneet Dhillon. From what we hear, Kumar Taurani is planning to celebrate the special moment in a lavish way after the release of Girish's next film wherein he will be throwing a big bash with all industry friends and collegues.

After Happy New Year, none of the new releases has done well at the box office. In fact November has turned out to be one of the poorest ever for Bollywood in last few years. Hence, all eyes are on the first release of December, Action Jackson, to bring in some revival of sorts for the industry. It is pretty much required as well since good run for a film only fetches audience for the next that hits the screens. Now since sentiments amongst audience have been so disturbed for last few weeks that it is ending up impacting even the opening day of so many films where there are no footfalls being registered whatsoever.
All of this means that the opening of the Ajay Devgn-Sonakshi Sinha starrer is being awaited with bated breath. A lot is riding on the film, also due to the fact that it...

This had to happen sooner or later. As is the saying, a good film does find its audience eventually. This is what has happened with Akshay Kumar's Entertainment as well which has now got its due amongst the family audience. On its recently held satellite premier, the Sajid-Farhad directed affair has fetched a very good Trp of 5.5. Says producer Ramesh Taurani, "All our films are very satellite friendly, so this is not at all surprising. Apart from Entertainment, every other film of ours, whether it is Ramaiya Vastavaiya or Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, has done very well on satellite channels." The comedy, which told the story of a bond between Akshay and a canine, had fetched good reviews for itself when released this August and had managed a reasonably sustained run due to positive word of mouth. Also, it stays on to be quite popular amongst children who were...

Veteran actor Randhir Kapoor who will be seen Indra Kumar’s upcoming family dram ‘Super Nani’ starring evergreen Rekha in it, will be seen in films after Ramaiya Vastavaiya!
Shweta Kumar (daughter of director Indra Kumar) plays Rekha and Randhir’s (they play husband and wife) neighbor. Shweta has quite a few scenes with Randhir and was always the cute bubbly girl on the sets as she was the youngest!!
Randhir treated Shweta like his own daughter and even reportedly told Induji that he sees Bebo in Shweta!!
Kareena in her early years, was also bubbly who would regularly play prank on the sets and keep talking to the elders, Shweta is an exact carbon copy of that and makes an environment quite lively with her presence….confirmed a source close to the production team on condition of anonymity.

This week’s Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa featured the contestants dancing on remixed music that was created especially by Music Directors Sachin-Jigar. Saturday’s show opened with the contestants dancing on the song ‘Dil Garden Garden’ from Kya Super Kool Hai Hum. Music Directors Sachin-Jigar, were warmly welcomed on the show.
Hosts Ranvir and Manish then realised that all the female contestants were not seated in the contestant area. The audience was then shown, that backstage, all the ladies were following Palak’s brother, Kiku Sharda! Kiku had come to replace Palak on the show and he had impressed all the ladies already! Naturally, hosts Ranvir and Manish were disappointed with this development!
It was then time to get back to business, and see who would be in this week’s face-off. The face-off was determined by last week’s votes (there was no elimination last week) and scores.

In a career spanning close to 150 films over 45 years, 67 year old veteran actor Vinod Khanna has adopted quite a few different looks. No wonder, he was in mood for some experimentation when it came to his latest outing Koyelaanchal as well. With filmmaker Asshu Trikha detailing out the character sketch of a 'Coal Mafia King' to him, the actor was doubly excited to adopt an altogether different look for the film. "The film is set in Jharkhand and this is the first time ever that Khanna saab is playing a character based out of that land. Moreover, it is a very substantial role, especially when compared to his recent films like Dabangg 2, Ramaiya Vastavaiya or Players. This time around he is the central antagonist and is a driving force of the film. He just wanted to get it all perfect and wanted to start with the look," informs a source.

2013 has been a brilliant year for composers Sachin and Jigar, with the rollicking Abcd, the trippy Go Goa Gone, and their additions to the Issaq and Ramaiya Vastavaiya displayed their versatility and growing confidence. However, their big ticket looks to be Yashraj’s Shuddh Desi Romance, which is Maneesh Sharma’s third feature after his smash Band Baaja Baaraat and Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl and teams up with Chak De India writer Jaideep Sahni. The film looks at modern relationships tackling topics of commitment and attraction with Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra, and newcomer Vaani Kapoor in the lead. The album is an enjoyable and fun ride that doesn’t curb Sachin-Jigar’s sound despite such a big banner and the pressure to deliver.

Anees Bazmee's Welcome Back, the sequel to Welcome, has finally found a heroine. First it was Sonakshi Sinha who was almost on. Then there was insistent talk of Asin bagging the role.
But it's Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruti Haasan who has finally bagged the role opposite John.
Shruti, who had a tame luckless beginning in Hindi films with Soham Shah's dud Luck opposite Imran Khan, seems poised for a second inning in Bollywood after her two back-to-back antithetical much-appreciated roles in Ramaiya Vastavaiya and D-Day.
Says Anees, "Yes, we've signed Shruti finally. She seems to be the right choice for the role opposite John. I wanted someone pretty spontaneous and with good comic timing. Shruti has all of this."
About Sonakshi and Asin, Anees says, "Asin was only under consideration. We never got down to signing her. So I don't know how news of her bagging the role got out.

Last week on the occasion of Eid, Prabhudheva kick-started work on his next, an action ‘masala’ entertainer with Ajay Devgn. While that is a reason good enough for celebration for all involved, one looks forward to Prabhudheva doing a balancing act, what with Rambo Rajkumar up for release as well.
“Prabhudheva directed Rambo Rajkumar is into post production currently and just a little over three months remain for the film’s release. It is a very big film and it can be pretty much expected that Prabhudheva would be mighty engaged for this film too,” informs a source, “Yes, a major part of the film has already been shot but one can’t discount patch work as well as promotional blitzkrieg that the film would require from all involved.”
For the filmmaker, it would mean an extension of a very hectic year which has already seen him completing and releasing another film of his,...

This week's new releases include Eros's Tusshar, Ranvir and Vishakha starrer Bajatey Raho, Prateik-Amyra's Issaq, Nasha featuring Poonam Pandey and the Tanuj Virwani (veteran Rati Agnihotri's son) debut vehicle Luv U Soniyo. It is obvious that the front runner is going to be Bajatey Raho, thanks to the good buzz and catchy music, with Issaq doing decently in the Hindi belt. Last Friday saw two major releases-Nikhil Advani directed D-day and Tips Films' Ramaiya Vastavaiya. As...

Makers of Ramaiya Vastavaiya are a happy lot. The film has enjoyed a good weekend at the box office and even more importantly, the film's main lead, Girish Kumar, has been accepted. For a newcomer who came with a baggage of expectations, more so since he is also the son of film's producer Kumar Taurani, there was a lot riding on the film. However with the film clicking with the audience, it could well be time to pop the champagne. Read More...

As mentioned in the column last week, both Ramaiya Vastavaiya and D-Day were meant to be word of mouth affairs. This is how both the film found an audience in theatres. Though it wasn’t a flying start for either of the two films, they did settle down as the day progressed with good escalation coming in. Of course only Friday opening wasn’t enough for champagne to be uncorked but as the weekend progressed, collections started getting better.
Let’s talk about Ramaiya Vastavaiya first. The film is finding itself in a happy zone today, considering its opening weekend of 15 crores. Considering the fact that it is a debut film of lead Girish Kumar, this is the kind of number that does carry good weight to promise a decent week ahead. A love story for the family audience, it should hang on for a respectable total ahead. Also, the...

Yet another newcomer arrives in Bollywood this Friday with Girish Kumar making his debut with Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Scion of Taurani family which has been in the business of music and films for close to quarter of a century, Girish is the first one to step into acting, unlike his father Kumar Taurani and uncle Ramesh Taurani who are into production. As things stand today, this is the way it is going to stay for Girish in many more years to come at the least.
Since your family has been into production, ever thought of handing that aspect of filmmaking as well?
No, I am not a part of production at all. Even in Ramaiya Vastavaiya, I am in the capacity of only an actor. I don’t intend to change it for time to come at the least.

Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruti has unknowingly triggered off a war of nerves in the film trade. This Friday, she appears in two Hindi films simultaneously. While in Prabhu Dheva's Ramaiya Vastavaiya she plays a nice sweet innocent girl in love, in Nikhil Advani's D-Day she plays the hard-hitting role of a prostitute. Quite a culture and moral shock for the audience, and a clash that the team behind both the films desperately wanted to avoid. Says Nikhil Advani, "They were supposed to release on a different date. When I heard they were coming on the same day, I immediately messaged the producer. However there was no response. More than anything else, audiences are going to be shocked to see Shruti transform within one Friday so drastically. I guess audiences are mature enough to take that king of change. I remember Gulzar Saab's Koshish and Parichay were released within months of one another.

Mumbai, July 20: Actor Sonu Sood, who essays the role of Shruti Haasan's brother in "Ramaiya Vastavaiya", is amazed by the film's lead actor, debutant Girish Kumar's performance. He says there's a future star in him.
"The performance that he (Girish) has given...I would never expect it from a newcomer. This kind of performance comes only after 10 to 12 films...you become camera-friendly, in dubbing also your voice sounds good...," Sonu said here Friday.
"Girish has done it all in his first film itself. I think that's a beginning, you are going to see a superstar," added the 39-year-old.
"Ramaiya Vastavaiya" is a remake.

Yet again Prabhu deva comes up this week with a South movie remake – his debut Telugu movie by the way – with Girish Kumar-Shruti Haasan starrer Ramaiya Vastavaiya. A rehash of Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which itself was inspired by Maine Pyaar Kiya, this rich boy-poor girl done to death saga has very little new to offer and comes off as a disappointing affair.
The story is extremely predictable – America returned Ram and gaon ki chori Sona meet at a wedding and after being at loggerheads for some time, fall in love with each other. Of course this does not go down well with lover boy’s parents who want him to get married to another rich girl selected by the mom. After getting insulted by his relatives, Sona and her very protective brother Raghu (Sonu Sood) return to their village. Ram who comes to know of this later, follows Sona...

Film: Ramaiya Vastavaiya; Starring: Girish Kumar, Shruti Haasan, Vinod Khanna, Randhir Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon; Directed by Prabhudheva; Rating: ***
This is a world of cultural values that are gone with the wind. Almost. It takes a man of Prabhudheva's innocent insouciance to bring alive that almost-forgotten feeling of the good old fashioned commercial cinema where the rich throw bundles of bank notes into the faces of the poor to get anything done, and the poor live on farms in the back of the beyond where credit cards are yet to reach.
"Maine Pyar Kiya", anyone? Yes, Prabhudheva's film, designed to launch the producer's son in style, is a quaint homage to old-fashioned love. The film offers a colourful palate of visuals.

Actor turned director Prabhu Dheva whose romantic film Ramaiya Vastavaiya hit the screens today, wants to explore different genres in Bollywood. While romance was a new genre for the director, his success with the masala action genre is quite evident in the box office reports.
And now taking a step further, director Prabhu Dheva wants to make a horror film with a female protagonist or rather a woman ghost. While the cast is still kept under wraps, it is said that the movie will be shot in eerie and dark areas in the outskirts of Mumbai. Prabhu Dheva has been always been fascinated with horror as a subject and making a film on it, seems to be next on his list.

She’s created waves down South and is recurring face on their big screen but unfortunately for the audiences up North Shruti Haasan has been a rare sight. We caught up with the busy actress who’s got a packed schedule for 2013 to talk about her two films, music and of course the bright filmi future ahead!
What has kept you away from Hindi cinema all this time?
I’ve grown up in a multilingual home so I don’t really make a big deal about films in different languages. As for offers in Hindi, for me it was the characters that were being offered to me that didn’t appeal. I always go where there are good characters.

Debutant actor Girish Kumar speaks with Sunny Malik about his first film Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Directed by Prabhu Deva, the film, which opens Friday, also stars Shruti Haasan for the remake of “Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana”, which was inspired by the 1980s cult Hindi film “Maine Pyaar Kiya”.
You are producer Kumar Taurani’s son… Was acting always something you wanted to do?
Yes, absolutely. Acting was always something I wanted to do. As you said, my father is a producer and I grew up in this environment. When I finished school, I told my father that this is something I want to do. I was about twelve or thirteen and wasn’t taken seriously. However, I was serious about it and took some acting courses and action classes. My father saw that I was ready to put the effort in and told me that he will give me a launch in his home production.

Girish Kumar is just starting his career and making his debut as an actor with Ramaiya Vastavaiya. However one realisation that he has quickly managed to gain in his very first outing is the fact that he is a director’s actor.
“Though he has been trained as an actor, both in overseas as well as in India, Girish made sure that he followed his director,” informs a friend of the actor, “He felt that when there is someone as experienced as Prabhudheva on the sets, he learn from his experience and then improvise instead of trying to do something innovative on his own.”
