Still not sure what to give it
sharoncsalerni-697659 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am still a little unsure what I should leave as a fair rating for this show. I liked and disliked several things about it. Like first I do like the main character/actress and her two friends... however I wish they had spent more time introducing her two friends. Like a little more background. That also goes for her relationship with the super popular guy she's dating right at the beginning. In fact that is my biggest problem now that I am typing it out...no one ever has any background or introduction to the show except for the main character and we don't get a lot from her either! I actually thought the kissing scene with her and the guy was a dream because it was so random. Not many good actors on board this one either. The main actress over acts but then again I think the dubbing can cause that.

No introduction and just confusing at times. Also same repeating storyline about the girl no one notices wanting to be popular and who can actually sing and has talent in the big school play that it seems all the popular kids are also a part of? When I was in high school that wasn't the case lol!? Then we meet this guy with blue hair who is super into the girls cousin but then spends 1 afternoon with the main character and now he can't keep his pants up? Now comes the lesbian who of course also has the hots for our now gay main character!? The flipping and flopping is just too much.

Okay so the more I am writing the more I realize how much I hated this show!

Same, but different angsty teen series

Warning: Spoilers
I'm SHOCKED this show only has a 6.1/10 rating. *Some spoilers ahead* The main character is an angsty teen who is hoping to make her mark in HS and become popular. In her quest, she becomes kind of self-centered, quite unlikable, and neglectful of her two best friends. She later deems herself. She also gets noticed and attracts the attention of two guys. In many ways, this show is very similar to Mindy Kaling's Never Have I Ever and that show has a 7.9/10. However, this show takes place in Xochimilco, Mexico and features a bigger-sized main character. I loved seeing her family dynamic and the beautiful scenery and culture of the Xochimilcas. I even visited Xochimilco because of this series. The show actually touches on a lot of important topics like feminism vs. Machismo culture, unconventional families, and colorism. It also has diverse representation in terms of light-skinned, indigenous, old/young, and LGBTQ actors. I thought the show had a lot of depth and really enjoyed it. I wish Netflix could've given this show a better chance by doing more to promote it, at least in the U. S.

4 stars for the colours

I was curious to watch this series partly as it is rare to see and overweight lead character, partly as I am going to visit Mexico City and Xocimilco where she lives is on the list. But I was very wrong.

Mich is incredibly annoying and self-absorbed and shallow. I ended up simply wanting to slap her. The other characters, her two friends, her cousin seem very one dimensional. You get glimpses of some personality from her cousin but overall she stays one dimensional.

Mich's love triangle is simply unbelievable. The "invisible" girl suddenly becomes everyone's love object? Highly unlikely.

Storyline didn't really exist, character development didn't exist, maybe with Dani, acting was bad, the only redeeming thing is the colourful shots of Mexico City.

Watch if you have nothing else to do, or you're 16, otherwise don't waste your time.
